  1. Yeah, I agree without having bothered to muster the science in support. It's something of a red herring amidst much realer concerns.
  2. Phil Niekro was a champ and a half. According to baseball-reference.com, he's a full 20 WAR ahead of Jackson. Regarding the cradlerobbing, I never heard that line. Sounds like a crazy thing to say. Chad Curtis (or Luis Polonia or any number of others) may be who you refer to, but (putting on my Stever Rogers hat) when it comes to accusations and implications of fooling around with teenagers, few teams are in the clear. With LoDuca and Castro, the Mets at one time fielded an all-high-school-haunting catching staff.
  3. Well, there's an argument that a roster representing every team --- and the handicaps and benefits that represents --- is appropriate if the players are fighting for an advantage which, in theory, could benefit any team in the winning league. The argument, of course, largely falls apart when the leagues have a different number of teams, however. But really, it shouldn't matter, as a competitive, high-stakes game shouldn't be filled with unstrategic high-volume bench emptying. So, no matter how much the game's counting is asserted, managers are getting other messages too, though I'm not sure from where.
  4. We saw Battleship, but didn't stick around for Jump Street, the second feature. I thought it would be first, but I gather that it's a little raunchy for the family viewing of the early evening drive-in show. It was my first drive-in experience and I highly recommend it and the community viewing experience it represents. We were like 90 minutes early but had ourselves a picnic and enjoyed watching family fun time unfold, letting strange kids play with my cute yet vicious dogs. I wanted to re-enact scenes from The Outsiders, but my wife wouldn't play Cherry.

  6. I tell you though. By lobbying for this, we're almost kinda setting ourselves and Dickey up for egg on the face if he comes up poorly. He's gonna get to pitch one way or another, so we should probably root for success in whatever role he gets rather than demand greater honors up front.

  8. Yankees still playing?
  9. Backman has perhaps too high an opinion of the Yankee family. I think the correct response to the media is that Jackson's comments speak for themselves, and in private, to remind his future big-leaguers why the umaking of the Yankee machine (excuse me, family), is so crucial to the future of all that is good and just.
  10. I honestly have simply not allowed myself to be bothered to with voting in a process that seems so overwhelmingly farcical. But if it means giving David his due, I'll vote for him at third and I'll wright him in (clever!) at every other position.
  11. Good show. I don't know if these guys qualify for your observation, but... 12. Paradise?

If Turner heads westward, I would gather Josh Satin inherits the roll of steady-but-on-the-bubble-utility-infielder-without-the-range-for-shortstop-in-his-late-twenties-with-occasional-offensive-skills-if-carefully-matched-up-and-who-provides-bonus-pieface-ability. The two have always struck me as really redundant. The main difference is that Turner can at least fake it at short and Satin not really (but Satin can fake it at first, and Turner not really). Satin's been rilly hot at Buffalo, I believe.
  14. We're in a playoff chase and I would suggest using whoever has the best chance of helping.
  15. He is a viable candidate. All this talk that it's somehow definitively abusive to use a prospect who has started out of the pen is speculative at best and blind Met-loathing at worst.

  17. Rose and Lewin having a great time with the relationship between Murphy and Duda.
  18. Thanks, sorry for the oversight. Good God, we still fail to impress.
  19. Tough year for Davis, but he sure owns this Samarzdja(??) dude.
  20. Thank you.
  21. How hot is it in Chicago? How hot at Citi? 105 here in DC.

An all home-grown lineup for the fourth time in Mets history.
