  1. Personally, I think the notion that "He shook the rap in court, therefore he's absolved historically," is a cop out. If you want to move on from steroids, I get it. That's fine. But don't substitute the judgment of a specific jury to a very specific charge with a very specific burden of proof for your own judgment, or the judgment of history.
  2. Hey, Cover Boy!
  3. Diaz is a money suck for his teams of late.
  4. Actually needed adoption for a while there, but according to his tweet and photo link, has been reunited with his big daddy UUU, released from prison after five years. Daddy looks like he stayed in condition, anyhow.
  5. Well, he was a Yankee most recently. Details are starting to emerge, including reports (don't know how authentic) of him allegedly dragging his wife downstairs early Christmas morning. Shmitt.
  6. Andruw Jones graduates from batter to batterer.
  7. On this day in 1919, the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. #Dickeytradeperspective
  8. I certainly didn't write or suggest that all teenage pitchers who appear in the big leagues have their careers destroyed.
  9. Was he the one who rushed the prep school wunderkind to the big leagues, desperate to move some turnstiles, prefacing a career-destroying injury?
  10. I knew Batman would go bad. It was only a matter of time.
  11. Ten. Wow. And that's just the diagnosed ones, I gather.
  12. The big secret of homeruns --- they're a cathartic thing in general when they happen, but they generally make baseball more boring.
  13. Of course it's a gunshot wound. Of COURSE. Too easily overlooked in the gun debates --- success rates for suicides are much higher if you have a gun in the house.
  14. Well-staffed? How about the expense account?
  15. <> Poor Freel.
  16. Swan Swan H wrote: I liked this a lot. Aubrey Plaza was excellent, and the ending surprised me in spite of myself. Jake Johnson is really good as well. Still digesting. I mostly approve. The unapologetic out-loud manchild writer seems to be quite the stock character these dayz.
  17. Vic Sage wrote: And whatever else Bond movies are about, they are about Bond. Without a great Bond, you can't have a great Bond movie. I hope it's not won't be to willfully contrarian of me to say so, but the next great Bond movie will be the first.
  18. We have an Achieving Above Awesome outfield.
  19. Looks like Ashie has hacked my hard drive.
  20. If the Mets can afford him this year, they can afford him next year. The question is whether that's the best use of resources, now or later.
  21. I guess it isn't too early, but the eggs are going to be scrambled many times over by then.
  22. "Wait, what? Somebody won 20 games, and became the first Met to capture a Cy Young Award since Frank Viola?" Frank Viola may have won a Cy Young Award, but not for the Mets, Snarky Sarcastipants.
  23. That contrast between meeting Murphy as a kid and meeting Henderson is pretty funny.
  24. Erik Bedard... ...pulled a real Mike Torrez last year with Pittsburgh, getting the opening day start in the same season he got released, which is a meaningful feat from where I sit. He is also a Franco-Ontarian, and only developed a useful command of English as an adult. I did not know that! Dallas Braden... ...pitched a perfect game back in 2010. I had forgotten about that! Aaron Cook... ...suffers from pulmonary embolism. His career has been interrupted on occasion by debilitating blod clots, and he's had a rib removed in order to reduce pressure on a major blood vein. God then fashioned for him a wife from the removed rib. I did not know that! Freddy Garcia... ... has 152 career wins, but 76% of those came before 2007. I might have suspected, but know, I did not. Justin Germano... ... is a man who is a major league pitcher, and apparently one who has been in the league long enough to be a fee agent. I did not know that! Jair Jurrjens... ...threw a no-hitter in the terrible movie Trouble with the Curve. But he has never actually pitched a big-league no-hitter, and in fact got farmed out by the Braves last year, which is pretty embarassing at the stage of your career when you're getting set to hit the free agent market. I did not know that! Jeff Karstens... ...once had his leg broken by a line drive off the bat of Julio Lugo. Julio Lugo! I did not know that was even possible! Kyle Lohse... ... had the best winning percentage in the league --- even better than Dickey. I didn't know that! Derek Lowe... ...is a career-long dick. I knew that! Shaun Marcum... ...is most to Larry McWilliams at this point in his career. Totally didn't know that! Daisuke Matsuzaka... ... in the one season where he lived up to the Red Sox hopes in 2008, still managed to lead the walks. I didn't know that! Kevin Millwood... ... pitched six innings of a no-hitter last year before incurring a groin injury. I didn't know that either! Five other pitchers finished the game and the no-hitter, presumably with each of the first five also leaving with groin injuries and the last pitcher, Tom Wilhelmsen, finishing the game before collapsing at the bottom of the pig pile clutching his groin. Dustin Moseley... ... threw only five innings last year after tearing his labrum and getting non-tendered. How would I know that?! Jamie Moyer... ... made his big league debut against Steve Carlton. I shit you not! Brett Myers... ...is... oh, fuck Brett Myers. Roy Oswalt... ... apparently once cured himself of debilitating shoulder pain by accidentally electrocuting himself while working on his truck. The more you know! Carl Pavano... ...has collected $39 million from the Yankees for a total of nine wins. I kinda knew that but it's great to get the specific numbers in front of me! Jonathan Sanchez... ...despite only one good season, has a really pretty model wife wife name Audris Rijo. I didn't know that! Joe Saunders... ...grew up attending O's games and is thought to be headed to the Orioles this offseason for that reason. Folks shouldn't assume that! Tim Stauffer... ...like Mosely, got one start and totaled five innings last year. What's up with that! Chien-Ming Wang... ...began his cycle of career-interrupting injuries injuring himself on the basepaths in 2008. I did know that. What I didn't know and couldn't have known was that the public self-centered eruption this injury triggered from George Steinbrenner was the last such tantrum from George in his notorious career. I didn't know! Kip Wells... ...is a former Long Island Duck. Didn't know that at all! Randy Wolf... ...is the brother of big-league umpire Jim Wolf. How did I not know that!! Chris Young... ...is somebody I know everything about! Carlos Zambrano... ...may be the best hitting pitcher of his generation, but he's hit .103 in 30 appearances as a pinch hitter, so some of that extra utility folks might hope to get when they sign him, well, that's never materialized. And that is something I didn't know! Most interesting selections for folks shopping on a budget: Cook, Marcum, Jurrjens.
  25. That shit breaks three times. What the hell?
