  1. Limping into the spring training homestretch, the roster is more or less rounding into shape (such as it is, pear being a shape and all). Also got some good new coachy photos below, including a bespectacled Tim Teufel. Finally got a portrait of Eric Langill in a Met uniform. Here's hoping he survives spring training without crashing his car into a fountain again. 2. ESPN, and "analyst" Doug Glanville, are going with the no-hitter-caused-the-injury angle. It's too good a story not to run with, apparently.
  3. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: You don't think the only no-hitter in Met history and the meniscus game gets him into our HoF? After Bill Webb gets in, we can discuss it.
  4. Well, the guy usually has like six jobs at any given time.
  5. And, on that note, Justin Verlander signs for seven years and $180 mills.
  6. metsmarathon wrote: if he injured himself last season, then the evidence points to the cubs game, and the johnson collision. maybe the 134 pitches contributed some lingering faitgue that contributed to the injury on that date, or maybe it didn't. it sure didn;'t seem to have affected him terribly much the prior three starts. Yeah, that's more reasonable to speculate on. Thanks. I get the impression that any injury that occurs after a manager stretched a pitcher's pitch count limits will be directly blamed on the manager stretching the limit. And the way the story is being framed seems designed to insinuate that. A closer look like yours punches a few holes in that, but I the popular narrative does not, and I suspect, given another chance, Terry will pull his man.
  7. I dunno. m.e.t.b.o.t. has a lot of good years ahead of him.
  8. You don't get 200 wins as a starting pitcher, you tend not to enter the conversation. You don't get 150, you had better had five unhittable years like Koufax. If this is it for Johan, he certainly has the Twins Hall of Fame to look forward to. And the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame. But Cooperstown will not be seriously entertained unless he tacks on to his legacy with a second career as a coach, manager, executive, and/or umpire.
  9. Looking forward to the return of m.e.t.b.o.t.
  10. Thinking that's Ms. Shepardson in the striped top.
  11. Howie Kendrick holding an angel would really impress me.
  12. Why does LeiterWagner always think he's gotta outpost me? Who said he could sit at our lunch table anyhow?
  13. It seems strange that teams should have to make that choice. Two painful questions: [list:3ibre9uo][*:3ibre9uo]Any notion that Terry's nightmare is true? That Johan re-injured himself because Terry let him go the distance for the no-hitter. (If Terry's culpable, than I and many other fans certainly are.) The timeline certainly supports that scenario, statistically. [/*:m:3ibre9uo] [*:3ibre9uo]Any notion that the culprit is Johan's chip-on-his-surgically-reparied-shoulder premature trip to the mound earlier in spring, to show the beat writers and Mets he's more a man than they were whispering? Maybe he was already in trouble but that was the straw that broke the camel's shoulder socket, so to speak.[/*:m:3ibre9uo][/list:u:3ibre9uo]
  14. Did ya hear? That know-it-all Adam Rubin this morning is reporting some minor league duh-rama happening in St. Lucie this week. Alderlin Rodriguez, who thinks he's all that, homers off of Zach Wheeler in an intrasquad game and decides to play it up. Like HE'S so great. Wheeler, who's such a big baby, faces him again in an intrasquad game later in the week, and ends up hitting Rodriguez in the hand. Rodriguez is all, that was intentional. Wheeler's like, it totally wasn't. And Rodriguez is all, if I miss opening day, you're missing opening day. And I'm like, what's he gonna do with a broken hand? And Reese and Wilmer are like, FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! And I'm like, shut up, already! God! Some of the coaches think it's really cool that Zach hit Aldy, because that makes him tough. I think he was being a baby if he hit him on purpose, but I'm not saying he did. I think he's a realy sweetie, but maybe he did, because he can be a big baby. Some say he did and some say he didn't, but they all went into coach's office and they say it's over. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. Aldy hit another homer in a real game this week so his hand is fine, but he's friends with Jordany and Jordany is SUCH a bitch. Guys are all such babies.
  15. I don't think Marcum is part of the issue. He's the Mets' number two starter as of this cold March evening. But with a rotation of... 1. J. Niese 2. S. Marcum 3. M. Harvey 4. D. Gee 5. J. Hefner ... with Laffey as an extra, I wouldn't hold out too much hope for a much better situation to open up. If you show anything in your first two or three starts in the minors, you're up. You show anything once you're up, you're probably the number four guy right quick. Plus it's a familiar environment, the coaches know you, you know where to find good pizza. Yadda, yadda. Plus, he's one of the few pitchers that have had Johan's surgery. If they sign Young, they can make him strip to down and demonstrate why it's holding.
  16. OH YES YOU ARE!!
  17. Calling Chris Young! Are you there, Chris Young?!
  18. The word "projected" had me thinking we were talking about the coming season.
  19. Wheeler indeed got invited to Major League camp.
  20. Where's the $70 million figure coming from?
  21. A slashity slash line of .080 / .193 / .160 // .353 during spring training will make folks reconsider your future fast. Hey! Dave Hudgens! Fix this!
  22. All part of my stealth campaign for Bill Webb's induction into the Mets Holla Fame.
  23. And the problem with bats out of Hell is that they're always gone by the morning sun.
  24. >>> "Sweetheart, will you be my wife?" >>> "OF COURSE I WILL! Oh, this is going to be great! We have to schedule our engagement photos! I know a farm we can do it at, and this great photographer who knows how to capture light just like it was made for..." >>> "Wait, I changed my mind."
