  1. Blaine Boyer, optioned by the Royals to Omaha, 3/19.
  2. I musta been fixing that when you typed it.
  3. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Both the Mets and Feliciano have an interest in making it work, but that's not how it's trending. I thought Felicity had the job won. 4. Feliciano sent to AAA, considering opting out.
  5. 97 wins and 12 more in the post-season.
  6. You know, using numbers like "3,000" and "100" to Davis alone, without qualifiers, I guess it comes out not so gently.
  7. There is nothing not fantastic about that bit of journalism. I mean, on one hand, it points (somewhat gently) to a guy holding onto his big PR chair years past his peak. On the other, it's a story a younger Jay Horwitz would've loved to have fed just the right writer --- if, perhaps, the subject wasn't Jay Horwitz.
  8. I guess I'll just let that logic stand or fall on its own.
  9. Sizzlin' hate. Come on. He was hardly a lock to make the roster. Or that he was any more likely to appear as AAAA crap after a few weeks than Nieuwenhuis, neither of who were brought the organization by Alderson. Somebody got hurt. It happens everywhere.
  10. The real story here is Hicks. With his low number and big league contract, I'd figure the spot was his to lose, but I guess a bizarre spring training slash line of .116 / .333 / .279 // .612 is enough to lose it. That choice'll cost 'em a roster spot. Also interesting to see vets get farmed out while Mazzoni and Montero stick around (unless I missed a report on them). 11. They've gotten value out Torii Hunter. Third time's a charm. And Trout has taught them that growing a centerfielder of your own is much more gratifying.
  12. Den Dekker. Wrist X-Rays. Say what you want about Jordany, but if he's the last man standing, he's the last man standing. Bean him in the balls, and he's back at it the next day. No small thing.
  13. Adam Rubin wrote: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- David Wrights first session taking live batting practice since the World Baseball Classic went well Sunday, increasing optimism he will be ready for Opening Day. Its the next step, Wright said. Any time you get to the next step, its a significant step. Its one step closer. That's the stuff of captains, right there. You can have your Brauns and your Kemps. My boy fills column inches like nobody's business. In midseason form, I'd say.
  14. What's to think? A huge step forward in the art and science of dramatic film. A huge step backwards for the culture of the nation.
  15. Shoulda signed the other two also. Endy didn't make the Venezuealan WBC team this year. He did really well for them in 2006 and 2009.
  16. Hey, I have no problem with him coming just as soon as the Mets think he's ready. Maybe Buck can be flipped for a pitcher.
  17. That would be an odd choice, seeing as the season doesn't start for nine days.
  18. Justin Masterson shooting it out for the Indians.
  19. Forty one cranebucks to whoever cuts this first.
  20. R.A. Dickey deserves his own thread.
  21. A menacing Doberman may fit the Kingman narrative, but Marty the winky-watcher rmis-remembers. The doberman (named "Sangre de Joven") was Youngblood's.
  22. Niese will be the third opening day starter in Terry Collins' thus-far three-season tenure, none of those starters being the actual ace during his tenancy, R.A. Dickey. Longest streak without a repeating opening day starter belongs to the the Torre-Bambi-Johnson bridge. 1980: Swan (his second of two) 1981: Zachry 1982: Jones (what WERE we thinking?) 1983: Seaver 1984: Torrez (sadly, I KNOW what we were thinking) 1985: Gooden (that solves THAT) Our current most unstable positions, in terms of rotating opening-day starters, as you may have guessed, tend to be in the outfield. RF: Five starters in five years (Church-Franoeur-Beltran-Duda-Byrd?) CF: Five starters in five years (Beltran-Matthews-Pagan-Torres-Niuewenhus/Cowgill/Den Dekker?) We have only a modest bit more of opening day stability in left, thanks to Bay somehow answering the bell ("and his name is Gus Bell!") twice in recent years. LF: Seven starters in eight years (Floyd-Alou-Pagan-Murphy-Bay-Harris-Bay-Duda) 2B: Four starters in four years (Castillo-Emaus-Murphy-Turner/Valdespin?) If Wright gets on the field, it'll be his ninth consecutive (and overall) start. That would tie him with Howard Johnson (who did it at three positions) and Jerry Grote (whose nine starts were twice interrupted by brief interregna at the hands of Duffy Dyer and JC Martin). He would pass Dwight Gooden (who had eight non-consecutive starts) and Cleon Jones (also eight non-consecs). Only Buddy Harrelson (11 consecutive and total) and his roommate Tom Seaver (10 consecutive, 11 total) have had more.
  23. I'm all about the positivity --- so much so that I oughta sing reggae --- but Murphy's almost got to miss opening day. He hasn't appeared in a game yet. It would be imprudent to think otherwise.
  24. Peeps we're expecting to miss opening day: Santana Marcum Niuewenhuis Francisco Murphy ("Well, I wouldn't say we're missing Francisco, Bob!") That's 20% of the roster. Still TBD with regards to Wright. It's been a very intercostal spring.
  25. Here come the Mets fielders!
