  1. Pitch five, called a ball.
  2. Yellich looks like a 10th-grader.
  3. Josh and Howie say Marasnick was safe on that steal. I'm not so sure. If he indeed was, it's because Murphy missed the tag, not because he got in ahead of it.
  4. I think we're far off-topic there. Firstly, to the extent that that's true, big whoop. It's a marginal difference. Secondly, we're talking outfielders, among which Turner is far less a passable actor. Thirdly, the person we're talking about getting farmed out is Nieuwenhuis, about whom this is not true. He's been the superior hitter against righties and will for the rest of life be the superior outfielder. Fourthly and finally, the shortness of the bench as a whole is under discussion. Better than Turner or Valdespin (if Valdespin must be brought into the discussion) is Turner and Valdespin.
  5. I'm not particularly impressed by Turner's capacity in this regard.
  6. Hey, scoring against Miami!
  7. Donovan Solano, one of three big leaguers from Columbia, the others being his brother, Jhonathan Solano, as well as Julio Teheran.
  8. The ship isn't going down.
  9. Not only is Jordany Valdespin the Pacific Coast Leaguer otW, but the Eastern League Pitcher otW is (dramatic pause...) NOAH SYnDERGAARD!!! Snydergard proved that he's more than a double-A pitcher with double-A's in his name, going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA, in two starts, totalling a kid-glovesey 11 innings, allowing only 5 hits, 3 earned runs, and 1 walk against 15 strikeouts. Scary.
  10. Brown Satin Buck Turner is your bench. It's also a coveted item discounted to $279 in the hunting section at Dick's Sporting Goods.
  11. Edgardo Alfonzo turns his hat around when things look to be getting ugly.
  12. Finished his career with the Yankees in a legacy-tainting final 16 games. Inexplicably wore 41 for them.
  13. Valdespin is the PCL player of the week. Jordany responded by saying that he's humbled to receive such an honor and he's thankful to all the **********s who voted for him.
  14. I'm looking more and more like Prof. Ron every year.
  15. They're accurately rendered, just inaccurately labeled. Fielder looks like Jose Reyes. Pujols looks like Fernando Vina. Darvish looks like Aurelio Lopez.
  16. I think a four-man outfield that overexposes guys who are still developing is a bad thing, both for the team in the short-term and developing players in the long-term. I don't think having a fifth outfielder means the team is no longer seeing if Lagares can fill a need. Lagares had been getting plenty of time as it was. There's always enough work for a fifth outfielder (and really, Nieuwenhuis was the fourth) without marginalizing any of the main actors, and a short bench, without a lefty, and particularly short on power is a bad thing.
  17. I remember Howard returning as a coach about that time because of the Diamond Dashes. He was simultaneously inspiriing and terrifying at first base. Kids would run to first, see Howard yelling and waving at them to go to second, and they'd kick it into a gear they didn't know they had. Came across a poster of Howard in the bowels of Nationals Stadium this weekend that made me feel simultaneously warm and afraid. I should have photophoned it.
  18. Man, now I wanna punch Steve Avery in the face. I had forgotten how big Dallas Green was. Either that, or I had forgotten that Gary Coleman had been an umpire.
  19. Then they did trade him, and his bat miraculously found new life. But it was a good deal. They got Mike Jorgenson (who would provide as much value going forward as you could have hoped for from Montaez) and Ed Lynch (who would be their best starting pitcher of the early eighties, and leave the team tenth all-time in victories).
  20. At least you understood. It's certainly costing us offense and defense, and has put Lagares in a position to flop. I went to game three at the Nationals Park and we had a four-man bench ---- Turner, Brown, Satin, and Gorgeous. That wasn't going to get it done.
  21. Nope. Swinging 3-0 at a guy who is all over the place, down 190-1, and popping out.
  22. OK, bases bloated. Let's hurt some baseballs.
