  1. Find a team that could use a lefthanded hitter that plays first, second or third or can come off the bench for a pinch hit. I'm sure somebody is out there. It would be seemingly a Sandy move to trade Murphy while everybody's looking at Byrd. I'm not sure what they'll do and I ain't adovacting, but besides Flores, a real option going forward at second is Eric Young.
  2. I have to say, 56 worked, though Torres did not.
  3. Stills from your Google Glasses freak me out.
  4. But what does he say?!
  5. Sleep well.
  6. Philadelphia loses two of three and manages to pass Washington. LA, in beating the Nats, passes them both. The Mets gain a mere game in the divisional standings, but knock four games off their net games back, and two net games in the Wild Card, pulling ahead of Chicago and staying within a half game of the champeen Giants. 7. Special request to the Marlins, however, to stop playing terribly (against everybody but the Mets). We need them to help pick off some of the guys ahead of the Mets.
  8. I like it all just fine. And with the two prime time games in the American League, all the NL teams are in the clubhouse.
  9. Put in the books, and in the glossy men's fashion magazines as well. Message received! Harvey message: Baseball first, batters beware July, 21, 2013 4:58 PM ET By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com NEW YORK -- Matt Harvey described himself as embarrassed by the Mens Journal articles portrayal of his social life. Terry Collins said it sent Harvey to the mound angry and eager to demonstrate hes about baseball and nothing else. Well, Harvey is plenty good without extra motivation. So needless to say you dont want to face him with a chip on his shoulder. Harvey limited the Phillies to three hits and a hit batter while striking out 10 in seven scoreless innings as the Mets beat Philadelphia, 5-0, in Sundays rubber game at Citi Field. I think Matt was on a little bit of a mission today to silence all the other stuff thats going on and let everybody know hes here to pitch and hes here to play baseball, Collins said. I think today he went out there with a little anger. This guy believes in himself. Hes got great confidence. I think some of the stuff that has come out, he was not happy with the way it showed up. And these guys have pride. Theyre not just carefree, I dont care what people think. I dont think anybody is ever like that. I know he was concerned what his teammates were thinking. Certainly they all know he works hard and when hes on the mound hes all business. I think today was a perfect example of, Hey, look, Im going to go out there and were going to go back to talking pitching and nothing else. Said Harvey: Obviously the articles have been written, and this is going to be it for me talking about it. But I read the articles and obviously was embarrassed by them. The way I was portrayed is not who I am and not the person that I am. I've learned from it. I've learned a lot of things, and kind of learned the hard way. In four of Harveys six double-digit strikeout performances this season he also has not issued a walk. I came into spring training and the biggest thing was going deep into a game and trying not to give up free passes, Harvey said. That was something I worked on really hard this offseason and really wanted to control. Fortunately enough, the walks are way down and Ive had those good, quality starts. Harvey now has produced 10 starts this season in which he tossed seven-plus innings while allowing one run or fewer, which is tied with Clayton Kershaw for the most in the majors. Harveys six double-digit strikeout performances are tied with Yu Darvish for the most in MLB. Entering today, no other NL pitcher had more than three. Hes pitched some good games, Collins said. That might be the best stuff I've seen him have. He got a couple of changeups up in the zone they got a couple of hits on. I saw the way he threw in the first inning and I thought hopefully he can hang onto it, because I thought he was going to strike out 15 guys the way he looked in the first. Said Harvey: The rest obviously showed to help. I could kind of tell in the bullpen that everything was nice and fresh.
  10. Visiting Baseball Prospectus and auditing the 2013 Mets they list the top three pitching performers, in terms of PWARP (presumably Pitching Wins Above Replacement Players). 1. Matt Harvey: 2.8 PWARP 2. Dillon Gee 0.9 PWARP 3. Shaun Marcum: 0.8 PWARP I'll take, for the sake of argument, Gee over Hefner and Niese and Parnell. Sure. But Marcum? Really? I know he was better than his record (so am I, but the way), but... Marcum?
  11. Best ERA Through 30 Games by a Met 1. Matt Harvey: 2.38 2. Jerry Koosman: 2.39
  12. Numbers I like on centerfielders --- 1, 4, 16, 24, 25, 51. All are Met-precedented, of course. But I think 10 and 50 would look great as well. And certainly 21. I sure got used to Beltran in 15.
  13. Get barbecue at the game. Or, alternatively, do whatever she wants.
  14. Lag is 7-10 in the series. #BadNewsforDuda
  15. Go to it. Don't let me stop you.
  16. I don't see Cliff Lee here. They're not only getting their hits, but he really looks hittable. His breaking shit has no bite and comes right into the wheelhouse.
  17. It's Sunday afternoon in the summer, man. The only thing you should be w iorried about getting done is a glass of lemonade. Michael Young stands as far off the plate as Piazza. Maybe farther. Pitching him inside is a mistake. A very rare mistake.
  18. "You know there were two guys who went down this year that you thought wouldn't return --- Chris Carptenter for the Cardinals, and Halladay for the Phils." There were more than that, Gary.
  19. Second three K-inning of the afternoon. Concerned about that 55-foot fastball, though.
  20. Laggy + Nieuwie = Productive Platoon
  21. Damn that railing in booshit.
  22. Clobbered the curve that time.
  23. Lee's curve looks hittable from here, but they ain't getting it. At least Buck and Laggy ain't.
  24. Not for nothing, but is it clear he made that catch?
  25. Getting Brown hacking is nice.
