  1. Stolen base by Lucroy. Sad Recker breaks my heart.
  2. Some of the plays down the stretch were "kinda spooky." "The Good Lord, for some reason, is lookin' out after us."
  3. MIght not have done what they did if it hadn't been for Mays. Consummate teammate apparently. Very little contact with old teammates. Talked to Koosman a couple of times. Talked to "Stork Theodore" a couple of times.
  4. "Ah was maybe mid-80s, but mah main thing was control and changing speeds." On "Ya Gotta Believe," Grant was solemn and never cracked a smile and nobody else did, and then they started wondering when it would end. He says that everybody smiled and laughed when McGraw stood up and yelled and grant did too.
  5. "Ah was the type of pitch-yoor that gave the A's trouble. Ah knew that and everuhbuddy else knew that."
  6. "I do not do very much pitching at awl, faw the first two months." Pitched his way into the picture by doing well in the Mayor's Cup.
  7. George Stone in the booth, virtually, via satellite. A real Mississippian.
  8. Zvon wrote: I thought Ashie was gonna take us out, close the season. I thought that would have been nice. Sorry. Tradition has it you hold the job until the team loses.
  9. I'm thinking that three pitches up at the batters' helmets is enough.
  10. Eric Young, Jr. trying to nail down the team's fourth stolen-base title, and the first by somebody not named "Reyes." Colorado gets a share in whatever glory reflects on the franchise. Rival Jean Segura is expected to return to the team today, but whether he'll feel up to stealing is an open question. I imagine if he gets a shot, he'll go for it. He's got all winter for the hammy to heal. EYJ and Eric Young, Sr. would be the first father/son stolen base champs in... ever, I think. Aaron Harang appears for the Mets in what is likely to be his last start for the team. Be sure and wish him well. Milwaukee counters with top prospect Jimmy Nelson, making his first start after two relief appearances. David Wright appears likely to sit after jamming his thumb.

  12. Made-for-TV biopic I just developed some curiosity about and watched some clips of, so, you know, not worth pollling But I was surprised to see a lot of baseball figures --- including Norm Cash and Al Kaline --- playing themselves. Billy Martin seemed more comfortable in front of the camera playing himself than he ever seemed being himself, if you know what I mean.
  13. The Cholula ad is looking more phallic than usual. (That's me talking, not Keith.)
  14. Well, you're right. I misread his 2012 season.
  15. metirish wrote: You know, I knew when I posted the link it would become about Megdal, last time I do that. It is rather annoying that he gets under your skin so easily, yes, you and Ceetar have a lot more to offer than that, yet you both get hung up on him. ON EDIT - Annoying is the wrong word there, frustrating I think is what I am looking for. Sorry to be predictable. I think the guy is a sincere fan in his own way, but he's running a dishonest crusade and that just degrades the whole culture. The one good thing we can find in the media an honest way to talk to each other and then this fake journalist comes and in that just goes out the window as a reasonable value. Most people feel no better about Francessa for instance. Howard Megdal wrote: So the Mets either used this rationale as an excuse to not spend money--a likely scenario, since that money hadn't been used on any other free agents all winter, and certainly hasn't been spent on anything since--or it was the thought of losing a draft pick that kept them from Bourn. Talk about a race to the bottom.
  16. Mets lose and gain a protected draft pick: Megdal: "Leave it to the Mets to achieve a beneficial position only through their failure." Mets win and lose the protected draft pick Megdal: "Leave it to the Mets to show some spirit and ability and win only when it would undermine their position." Seriously, do we have to encourage this shit? We've had more to offer than this guy does on his best day.
  17. Are you quite sane? You're hijacking a thread, ignoring the subject, coming up with a crazy new subject. If that's what you want to talk about, please do the decent thing and start a new thread.
  18. Fun videos and nicknames aside... he's a risk at more than three years, as he's just coming off his first good year in four. And as the he more or less confesses in the video, if he's not hitting, he's not helping you on the bases or on defense.
  19. I don't think it's going to be quite that simple.
  20. I bet if you looked at Sports Illustrated's top five rookies to watch in any year (at least, any year up until 1991 or so), you'd get one multiple All-Star/HOF candidate, one pretty good guy who made an A-S team or two, and three what-the-hell?'s
  21. In post-season honors, the 2103 Appalachian League Top Prospect, according to Baseball America, is shortstop Amed Rosario of your Kingsport Mets. Rosario, just 17, hit .241 / .279 / .358 // .637 in his first stateside action, so obviously the honor is based on potential as much as anything.
  22. Yeah, but winning 19 for the Yankees and winning the same for the Twins ain't the same thing. Total Career CY Shares Santana: 2.72 Wang: 0.36 Matsuzaka: 0.07 Wang and Santana will be 34 next season. Matsuzaka will be 33.
  23. As usual, I don't see how or why Duda has an option year and Davis doesn't. I've seen other sources claiming Davis has an option year and at least one claiming he has two (?!).
  24. Don Pepper, Detroit Tigers / Johnny Bench, Cincinnati Reds / Alan Foster, Los Angeles Dodgers Mike Torrez, St. Louis Cardinals / Cisco Carlos, Chicago White Sox Pepper never had a big-league hit. Talk about a cover curse.
  25. True enough. But Wang didn't have a pair of Cy Young Awards, plus a no-hitter nailed up after the first surgery. Matsuzaka comes across more as healthy but degraded. Just my impression. You're probably right, and he's more than likely to end up coming to a camp without a big league contract. He just seems less likely to do that than Matsuzaka.
