  1. Jeezy peezy guys! You're big leaguers! Don't make me read the alphabet to you! Good job, Baxie. Do me a favor and try and get Buck on the phone. I'll find your bobble.
  2. That shot was just too sexy for me to look at and think at the same time.
  3. There's a marketplace out there that fixes a specific price for a Terry Collins throughout baseball. The only reason the Mets should pay more without getting more would be nuttiness. I like Terry as a dude, but the team is operating in the red.
  4. Which makes little sense. Regarding the Francessa video, Why does Cornwallis sound like Geoffrey Holder?
  5. The desire to solve all problems at once is a dangerous trap. With a healthy organization of hundreds of players, some tend to solve themselves. If you get the right guy in one position, sometimes, just stabilizing another is a big step. And more talent is freed up there. Boston's got a crappy thirdbaseman and their rotation isn't deep. Detroit's defense is a laugh and Andy Dirks ain't gonna carry ya. But you go on, solve what you can, and keep playing the games.
  6. I think we can be reasonably assured that the team will look hard (probably harder) at the trade route for acquiring offensive help.
  7. I just don't know what's to get excited about there. Murphy, Peralta, and Abreu seem like targets the Mets will look at closely. Cruz sure fits the profile of the team buying low on ex-PED-cons, but I agree about the translation rate of power from Texas to Queens. I bet we hear some about Wladimir Balentien too.
  8. I'm David Aardsma, 2013 Met. And I'm at the point in my career that some of my best outings --- multiple innings, a handful of strikeouts --- are going to come while throwing garbage innings in games where the outcome seemed in little doubt before I entered. That's not the way it is in a season packed with extra-inning games, though. I think my best job was July 8 in San Francisco. After nine innings, the game is tied at three, and they turn to... ME! Matt Harvey walked off with the PotG award, as he always does, but voters gave me 0.78 ounces as well, and that ain't nothing. I whiffed pinch hitter Nick Noonan swinging, and then the lineup turned over and I got Gregor Blanco looking. Just when it seems none of these World Champs can touch me, Marco Scutaro puts one in the hole between third and short, but Wright reaches over and makes the play with grace and aplomb. The Mets know they're on to something good, so they send me back out for a second inning to face the Giants' big bats. Brandon Belt? He goes down swinging. Buster Posey, he pops one to short right center... which unfortunately falls for a lucky-assed double. I walk the panda (which isn't an Irish expression, but it should be), get Pence on a liner to right, and then they send Scott Rice out to get the lefty for last out, because that's what Rice does. By the time the Mets pull ahead on an error in the 16th and hold on for the win, my mastery is a distant memory. BUT IT HAPPENED! Hey! Rick Ankiel! You were a 2013 Met too! I'm serious, you totally were!! What was your best day?
  9. That's where I am. He falls into it quite nicely. The illusion is spiritual, as much as visual or auditory.
  10. Famously the roommate of Kevin Collins, where he persecuted his Metly teammate with snoring and sartorial issues.
  11. soupcan wrote: That your New York Mets will be a force to be reckoned with next year, the year after at the latest. And if not the year after next year, well, after that, the sea levels will have risen and the rich will all live on the moon while the poor struggle just to survive, by which time, who will care what I predicted?
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I say that every year. Well, it's TRUE! It's just, sometimes the reckoning is easier than other times.
  13. Porn or not, the dude knows how to rolf. http://greenwichrolfing.com/craigswanonrolfingvideo.html
  14. I think I've put my finger on why Theodore didn't have a longer career.
  15. seawolf17 wrote: I didn't see anyone question using Cruz; I think you had to use him. His career numbers against Price were excellent, and the rest of that lineup doesn't exactly scare you. I'm sorry. Folks are questioning the deployment of Ted Cruz. My mistake.
  16. Davey really seemed to have lost his edge. Probably a healthier human being, but a less competitive manager. That, along with Jeffrey Maier, might have cost him the Hall of Fame. It seems to me the Dave we knew from the Mets, if he gave in on that plan to limit Strasburg's innings last year, would have had the foresight to shut him down earlier and bring him back with a week and a half to go in the season, and have him available for the playoffs. Reports this morning quote Jon Daniels has said there is "not a question" of bringing Ron Washington back. You'd figure he'd let Wash dangle a bit. A lot of folks questioning how he came to the decision to use Nelson Cruz at DH in the play-in game, appearing in his first game after serving his 50-game suspension.
  17. So clarity is not readily available. Hopefully we can get it right in the next update. Let me know if you come across any other clarifications.
  18. Orange guys should all have options. But I'm seeing a lot of disagreement about the option stati of Davis and Duda. The report above also claims that Scot Atchison doesn't have enough time on his card to qualify as a free agent, which is some darn surprising news.
  19. My impression is that the outfield wall goes with the bottom field. The top field is for infield practice only.
  20. The right field line in the upper field looks like it's about 220 feet.
  21. A true asshole answer would be, "Well, technically, Daisuke is a $100 million player. Next question."
  22. Dan Warthan also gets a two-year deal. /ceetar's head explodes
  23. He's ignoring the distinction between the words "would" and "could". Yeah, that's the genius. He subtly implies that they could, for the right player, but knowing that the media would seize on an explicit statement that they could as a promise that the team would or will (a promise the media would surely hang on him like a millstone), his deflection is slathered in plausible deniability. Frustrating, yes, but no presidential spokesman ever handled the media so well. I have no idea how a guy constructs answers on the spot that are simultaneously honest, evasive, and complex enough that by the time you figure out what he said, he's two questions down the road.
  24. A ho-hum season at Brooklyn (17 games and a 4.67 ERA, matching his 2012 number egg-zackly), and it remains to be seen why this strapping cowboy keeps making the prospect lists while not making a big splash in the games. He struck out 15 and walked 13, and that's no good. He did post his lowest WHIP, but it ain't that great and 17 innings ain't that big a sample size. I'm scared and I'm thinking that maybe he ain't that young anymore.
