  1. "The Whistling Song" --- they just named it that because they wanted to make my list.
  2. Eckstein. Or Beltran.
  3. Best Whistling Songs 10. "Centerfold" 9. "You, Me, and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" 8. "Walk Like an Egyptian" 7. "Patience" 6. "Games Without Frontiers" 5. "Jealous Guy" 4. "Dock of the Bay" 3. "Colonel Bogey March" from The Bridge over the River Kwai 2. "The Theme from The Andly Grfiffth Show" 1. "Sweet Georgia Brown"
  4. Pretty sure the Super Globetrotters was his idea.
  5. How about Frankie Frisch's old number still available for Beltran to grab? Played pretty much half his career there, but you know, still.
  6. Jeff Wilpon affects the curvature of the Earth!! SELL THE TEAM NOW!!!!
  7. The Mets were more evenly matched with the Phils, but for whatever reason (injuries? relief pitching?), they consistently played down to the Marlins and/or the Marlins consistently played up. Interestingly, they really kept Stanton in check, holding him to a .156 / .264 / .333 // .597 line over the season. Some guy I crossed up with on Facebook said he didn't know what the big deal was with Stanton... based on what he had seen.
  8. You may have missed it, because getting cockpunched with a loss with little at stake isn't as ennobling as dying hard with a championship on the line, but the Mets and the Marlins had by far the most dramatic rivalry of the 2013 season. Feeding into that were two of the most miserable losses for the Mets --- the June 8, 20-inning disaster in which the Mets had the winning run on base for about half the day but could never get him home; and the April 29, 15-inning game in which they lost the lead in the last inning twice. The Mets punched a cock or two also, but alas, the record is what it is.
  9. Predict that replacement NOW!!!! It's tough, because.... who couldn't manage that team? It's a dumb guy's dream.
  10. I got ripped at a business meeting. A training, actually Supervisor: "So before we begin, it looks like we're waiting on few folks. Everybody have a nice weekend?" All: "Grumf. Grumf." Supervisor: "Edge, what did you do?" Edge: "Went to the movies." Supervisor: "Oh, cool. Anything good?" Edge: "Mmmm. Not really." Supervisor: "Ohhhh. Have you seen Titanic yet?" Edge: "Well, actually, that's what I saw?" Supervisor: "Oh, I heard it was really good. What didn't you like?" Edge: "Just not for me, I guess." Fellow Trainee, tightening up: "What 'wasn't for you'?" Edge: "Um, just didn't... I dunno. A bunch of storyboard dialogue. Two dimensional stereotypes for characters. A bunch of real people with real stories died on that ship. But then there's this fictional girl who wants to kill herself when her mother tells her to stop smoking." (I went way too far before that remark, but kaboom! that one broke the camel's back!) Fellow Trainee: "It's a GREAT movie with WONDERFUL characters, and if you weren't a MAN you'd understand that!" Edge: "OK" (thinking silently) "of course, a man wrote it, directed it, designed it, used his stupid sketches for key incidental art, and ditched his wife for one of the stars during the filming." (/silent thoughts) Supervisor: "Well, I guess... we're all... entitled to different opinions." Fellow Trainee: "We're not entitled to STUPID opinions." Edge: (thinking silently) "People are really fucked up. And yet, you totally could have avoided this, you stupid, big-mouthed career suicide." (/silent thoughts) *** After training... Another fellow trainee: "Well, I guess that we can add film to religion and politics among the subjects you shouldn't discuss in polite company or at work." Edge: "I wouldn't be seen talking to me if I were you."
  11. Were there any padded walls at Shea in the Garrett Epoch?
  12. Not sure what I'm seeing, but it looks like a Metly M on the right breast.
  13. Name this Met? That's a Met, right?
  14. I would not think to encourage you to.
  15. I stumbled upon this DP turned by Asdrubal Cabrera. A body isn't meant to do that.
  16. Happy sixtieth birthday to TV pitch man Keith Hernandez.
  17. There seems to be developing an anti-hater backlash on this film not seen since Titanic where to dislike it is in some quarters is to provoke outrage and heartbreak and to place yourself outside the realm of decent society.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Detroit is Earl Weaver's dream. Starting pitching and three-run-homer potential everywhere you look... and not much else. Some of Earl's teams had great collections of gloves though. These current Tigers, not so much. They're purty awful.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Cabrera slowed Cabrera down a lot too. Not a lot of speed, athleticism, or defense on Detroit outside of Jackson (who can't get on right now), Toriiii (who's, what, 38?), and their new SS (whose hitting is still a question mark). Detroit is Earl Weaver's dream. Starting pitching and three-run-homer potential everywhere you look... and not much else.
  20. I really didn't think it was too much to ask.
  21. I want to be a FTWH shortstop.
  22. I'd really appreciate a commentary or a statement or something along with the reposting of a guy's essays.
  23. Rey-O may have struck out more than he walked (a rare occurrence), but he really didn't strike out that much. The hand eye coordination that made him a marvel in the field made him also a good bet to make contact at the plate. It just wasn't, you know, effective contact. I think Lunch's on-air call with Francessa was defending BV for putting the hit-and-run on with Rey.
  24. Might have been my bad repost. Anyboo, failing to hit .200 in the GCL at 22, he was probably a solid candidate for a release under any circumstances.
  25. I love that your brother's twin musical passions are Rush and KISS --- one being the epitome of stupid smart, and the other the epitome of smart stupid. They're like the Gene Mauch and Tommy LaSorda of rock bands.
