  1. Hey, man, we're confusing the Yankees with the Mets here.
  2. The best part of that is the absence of "asked." "Doctors attending the game are to leave their name..." Not "asked to leave their name." Hippocrates was a totalitarian guy.
  3. Good for Ty Burrell, I guess, but I don't find a whole lot of Met fans to be particularly optimistic.
  4. I'm going to guess that these weren't the regulars.
  5. That's some committed apathy. Over 200 words.
  6. The Soreno looks as much like a prison as a Florida hotel. The Mets were the first baseball team integrated from day one.
  7. I really don't see Brown getting quite so many appearances to qualify for the title of "platoon partner" with Grandie, but I guess he'll help out there.
  8. I like Bucket's notion that the outfield will be multi-position platoons moving across all three positions. But is Terry willing to be that creative?
  9. Zvon wrote: 5) Not up on the business of catching. Recker? Sorry, competing for the Ron Hodges seat are Recker, Juan Centeno, Taylor Teagarden, and Kevin Plawecki.

  11. In order for you to show your presence, you need to file your predictions now. 1. Who opens the season as the Mets main firstbaseman? Davis? Duda? Satin? Flores? Some dude not currently in the system? 2. Who opens the season as the Mets main shortstop? Tejada? Quintanilla? Tovar? Seratelli? Flores? 3. The Mets opened the season with two entrenched outfielders and then went out and signed two more, both versatile. Bad news for somebody, right? What will the regular alignment be come April 1? 4. Barring injury, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, and Zack Wheeler look to open the season as members of the Mets rotation? Whos's number five? Pretty much a huge field to pick from: Matsuzaka? Mejia? DeGrom? Torres? Lannan? Montero? Syndergaard? 5. Backup catcher?
  12. My Facebook feed has been filling with hyperbole over this all weekend. Having no kidmuffins of my own, I'm not sure if all this spooging is something that applies to me, or a real invitation to go see the film and CHANGE MY LIFE. Tell me about it.
  13. Nasty Boys reunited http://www.fox19.com/story/24584651/nasty-boys-reunite-recount-1990-world-series.
  14. Lonnie Smith and Pete Rose.
  15. Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo.
  16. They might pass indeed. They have so far. I'm sure they've coldly calculated what he'd be likely worth to the team and set their ceiling based on the expected financial value of that worth. But they didn't finish in last. And they didn't finish where they did with him. So that only applies so far.
  17. ESPN, at the same time, has never been more successful. Despite the range of alternatives that folks have now that they didn't have when ESPN was building themselves in the eighties --- particularly the availability of regional sports networks as televised wallpaper for sports fans, and league-affiliated networks, too --- competitor after "competitor" has failed to put a dent in their hegemony*. They may be a monster, but their our monster. *Sorry, can't stop using this word. Please slap me if I use it again.
  18. I should have included suspensions in "Rap Sheet" section. I stumbled across a note that Rob Dibble was suspended six times in his career. That number is more amazing when you consider a modern reliever's workload gives him only so many opportunities to get suspended. Checking the numbers, he totaled 477 innings over his career. That would mean, for every nine innings he threw, he had an 8.83% chance of incurring a suspension. Of course, being a white guy, he somehow parlayed that douchey lukheadedness into a lunkheaded broadcasting career.
  19. Totally irrational, but those clips have me deeply desirous for a brutal Yankee beatdown.
  20. Look't that giant hand.
  21. Nice to see Scully still reporting to camp early. How many other MLB figures can give you first hand descriptions of watching Kiner hit? [youtube:5o9owea0]k4HSxYFX_XM[/youtube:5o9owea0]
  22. Selig may have exactly zero fans, but he's got a chance to retire on a long winning streak. (Assuming that expanded replay action and home-plate-collision reform don't turn into disasters.)
  23. You're no fun. But check out the guy to the right of the vendor's butt, with the seat right behind the steel support girder
  24. Too bad the one guy who didn't know it was White Shirt Day at Forbes Field is bent over puking in the aisle.
