  1. Working within limits and exceeding the seeming limitations can be part of the magic of film. Resetting the shot for each frame would have been a challenge for much of the film, but not all of it, as it only takes a relative handful of brick replacements per shot to give the illusion of movement. Especially if you slowed the fuck down for a bit. Plus, you could have totally been within the spirit of the film by using a crew of 8-14-year-olds, working as a team of master builders. They could have worked off a computerized design template mapping out the changes for each shot. And then the only computerized animation would have been with the faces. And heck, that could have been done in pen and ink.
  2. Cool, we got a team in Gulf Port. If projecting prospects was my job, yeah, I'd totally use that 10th slot to pick somebody out of left field. Nobody remembers if you got it wrong, and if you get it right, you're a genius. Looking for photos of Marcos Molina, I get this guy: [fimg=200]http://www.estoesbaloncesto.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Marcos-Molina-y-Juanma-S%C3%A1nchez-021.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=200]https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTJlnY4R1Z2_w3hVldGIxE4dzMQijg-C2qzHu0xABs2hwmgVzwB[/fimg] [fimg=200]https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQoWlsQXvKUvUaF3xiwJcMVLzJq0jgQVsPZ4JFncfYXKqQ1uWtSGw[/fimg] And this guy: [fimg=200]http://content-portal.istoedinheiro.com.br/istoeimagens/imagens/mi_3406491963451229.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=200]http://www.terra.com.br/istoedinheiro-temp/edicoes/624/imagens/i143241.jpg[/fimg][fimg=200]http://revistadinheirorural.terra.com.br/media/images/raw/2009/09/01/img-145506-.jpg[/fimg] Maybe it's this badass!

  7. I agree with all those comments. The Diamond story is just filler revealing nothing.
  8. Wow. It's usually F-FAFIF who does the fake trolling.
  9. What's wrong with small caps? DEN DEKKER D'ARNAUD DEGROM Isn't this how this sort of thing is generally handled? I hate it to turn into a clubhouse distraction!

  11. The last Washington Sentator (Toby Harrah) and the last Seattle Pilot (Fred Stanley) still search for their Metliness. 12. I root for managers who come out of the pitching ranks, but every time the Mets play Bud Black and the Padres, the guy consistently fails to impress me
  13. Bartolo Colon arrives in camp as a member of an endangered species. It was his sixth season before he became an Expo (thank you, Omar Minaya), but he has a chance to be the last remaining one. Below I rank the recently retired, the hinted at retirement (Livan is apparently just finalizing a deal to become an instructor with the Nats), the all-but-retired (sorry, Miguel Batista), and the still active. I rank them by their most recent game, but obviously that's a matter of luck to many of the remaining guys. But if they all retired today, Luis Ayala would be our winner. Some still nominally active guys, though, can still pass some officially retired guys with a single appearance. Colon is far from the youngest (see Izutris, Maicer), but he is the only one with a contract for 2015. 19 =#BFBF00][crossout]Vladimir Guerrero[/crossout], of 39 years, 7 days old. Under contract with the Royals. 1 =#0000FF]Luis Ayala, rp 36 years, 1 month, 4 days old Most Recent Game: 9/29/2013. In camp on minor-league deal with Washington. Two other notes: 1) The proliferation of Latin American ballplayers on this list is a nice reminder what a great job this organization did scouting Latin America. They lost their fain base because they couldn't keep anybody after they reached free agency, but the team stayed viable on the field (if not marketable) by always reloading from their largely Latin American prospect base. 2) How do you like Val Pascucci, staying in this little game so indefitagably. His entire career consists of 32 games with the 2004 Expos and 10 games with the 2011 Mets. He might have pulled off a stealth victory with a little luck.

  15. Hate to be the naysayer, but I'm giving this three out of five. I was leaning toward two-and a half. Between the zippity-zip pacing (which also put me off Cloudy with a Chance o' Meatballs), and just the number of times the production seems to betray the film's own spirit*, I had trouble getting on board until the last act. *Why didn't they shoot it in stop action with actual Lego pieces?
  16. Pitched modestly effictively --- certainly better than he did with Seattle. But his 5.76 ERA with the Mariners added up to a 5-11 record. His four-start, 3.52 ERA run with the Mets left him 0-1, but all the games were certainly winnable. Struck out 10 against Washington in his first start, and the Nats weren't quite so strike-out-able in 2013 as the Mets were.
  17. Aaron's a longtime Red that I always think of as a longtime Cardnial. Conflating him with Jeff Suppan or somebody.
  18. Those look like some of the loneliest baseball players in the world. Just ask Bill Freehan. I think we can narrow that "sometime during the 1972 season" down a little, to "after May 11."
  19. Nymr83 wrote: if he accepted the qualifying offer he'd have been back in the same spot next year, no? With $14 million more in his bank account, and possibly with a more appealing CV and a different market.
  20. And that's what makes the Ike story and this Duda story more and more useful than the boilerplate BSoML story. Ike is underscoring a change in his swing, goofily telling the reporter that he probably wouldn't understand it if he described it... as he's describing it. And designates not changing his swing 60 times as a key to his season, which is depending on... the most recent change in his swing. With Duda, they're not comment on so much (or leading with) on changes in his physical prowess but on changes in his emotional state, which might be something to watch going fowrard or not. That's spring training. So yeah, it's good journalism worthy of putting some stock in, depending on the kind of stock you're talking about. It's a hint at a narrative they may or may not developing and may or may not lead toward a positive outcome. What more could you as a February article to give you?
  21. Can we look at how new wave wouldn't have happened without Doug Flynn?
  22. He's got to go somewhere.
  23. I don't think we need to validate the Fregosi/Ryan trade in order to graciously acknowledge the guy's impressive career upon his passing. He's not the one who made the deal.
  24. No, it was Rivera that was going to be sent to the Mariners. Jeter was just going to be buried behind Felix Fermin.
