  1. I'd run on abolition --- the abolition of the DH, the amateur draft, minor league affiliation, territorial exclusivity, and the last vestiges of the reserve clause. Yeah, I wouldn't last long. I also would have trouble with the objectivity thing.
  2. What a half-hearted swing by Kevin Collins here. ...Collins to Topps Photographer: "Sure, I'll be included in The Miracle Has Landed someday, but now that I'm stuck on this 110-loss furshlugginernaut for the duration of 1969, it's like the Miracle's landed on me. So yeah, take my picture if you want. Whatever." Still cracks me up.
  3. Funny how it emphasized the distinction between the two parks. Zankee Stadium III, where homers fly out and runs are plenty enough to cover up the sort of erratic mistakes that cost a team a base or two. Citifield, where offense is stilled to the point where dumb move can be the difference, and often is. Mets = more talented squad. Yankees = playing tighter, sounder baseball. Split.
  4. Young should be able to hit this guy. I just think he can.
  5. Not Wright's night, is it? But Murph. Him, I can count on.
  6. Um, guys, you don't win by striking out all the way through the lineup.
  7. Two innings to get one run. At home. Loaded bench. How hard could this be?
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: This is reminding me of the last game against Philly (the one we eventually pulled out in the 9th & extras) In that one Ryan Howard beat out an infield single and later scored by dodging a tag at home. Tonight, Brian McCann beats a relay throw preventing a double play then scores from 1st on a double. Something definitely going wrong when fat, slow guys are beating you with their legs. I think Terry is picturing Laggy on that play over and over in his head.
  9. I'm telling you, bunt it to Teixiera. Anyway, Campbell, Flores, and Abreu still available off the bench. Betances is becoming a man, here.
  10. Oh, dear, McCann looked like he had a fridge on his back there.
  11. A lot of bad assets on this Yankee team. But that Betances curve was something.
  12. How about playing the Abreu card here?
  13. I'd be bunting the ball in in Teixiera's direction as much as I could.
  14. Looks like Jeter's retired a little bit earlier than expected.
  15. Mom, can Jake deGrom tuck me in and read me a story?
  16. This is the Ruben I remember.
  17. Mom, can Jake deGrom come to my birfday party?
  18. A lot of folks go after Wright with two strikes by giving him fastballs away. Lay off of that shit, David.
  19. If you're going to hit all the balls to first, at least make Teixiera move his butt, guys.
  20. I figure the way to do this right and get it over with is to go whole hog. Oversell it the way he's been oversold to us his whole career. Ladies and gentlemen, if you will kindly direct your attention to the scoreboard in right center field, the Mets would like to present a video tribute to Derek Sanderson Jeter. For 18 season, Mr. Jeter has represented everything that is good about the Yankees, baseball... LIFE, really. His near two decade career has eclipsed those of such Yankee greats as Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio, AND Balboni, and made them all look frankly silly. He came into the game during a pitching-dominated era, and established new offensive heights no one thought possible. If it doesn't seem like that in the record books, remember, he MADE EVERYONE ELSE BETTER. EVERYONE. You, me... Alec Fuckin' Baldwin... we're all better for his time among us. His fielding was frankly unfair to the opposition, and if it lookde like he was wearing ankle weights out there at times, he probably was, because he is the soul of graciousness. Apart from his unprecedented escapades on the baseball field, Jeter has donated billions to local charities. He is further known for his impeccable taste in himes, his award winning sculpture, and his firm commitment to chastity. Ladies and gentlemen, the man Fortune magazine called the greatest inspirational leader since Henry V... whatshisname... Number 2!!
  21. A trip to the special 7-Day Concussion DL for d'Arnaud. Welcome, Juan.
  22. And if you guessed "A Framed #2 Made Entirely of Subway Tiles, Trimmed in Both Yankees Navy and Mets Orange and Royal," step right up and collect your prize. I'll go ahead and hand it to the Mets, for the second straight year, they went for something tasteful, thoughtful, drawn from the fabric of the city both the Yankees and Mets represent, with a huge what-the-fuck-am-I-going-to-do-with-that? factor that the player just has to smile through and humbly respect because, you know, the city. Good play, Mets!!
  23. The idea that he feels compelled to announce who the closer is before a game is at least a little silly.
