You know, Randy F. Choate is a master of getting my goat and doing unspeakable things with it. Not only has he been pitching for decades despite logging approximately 17 innings per year, making him simultaneously the walking embodiment of overspecialization and the walking embodiment of empty extended game times. No, it's that he's walking around with a 2000 championship ring that should only be worn by Men who've played for the Mets. In fact, there's a good chance, with the intended retirement of Derek Jeter at the end of this season (you may have heard about this somewhere), that Choate will be the last surviving 2000 Yankee, and therefore the last active player to face the Mets in a World Series. That's a shameful thing to be, Randy Choate! Who pisses you off... on the Rays?

The Marlins should be wearing a "Stanton Farewell Tour" jersey tonight!

Don't look now, but Milwaukee is totally tanking, looking a lot like the team we maybe thought they'd look like at the beginning of the season. They've lost seven in a row and all of what seemed to be a healthy lead in the NL Central. They're now two games behind the Cards (winners of four straight) and only 1.5 ahead of the Braves for the second Wild Cardy spot. A lot of hot potato going on with that second Wild Card spot. Anybody who approaches it immediately falls back. San Diego, winners of seven of their last 10 and enjoying a visit from Arizona, are hoping to make the next run, but time runs short.

Hey, it's Koehler Day!

I read that earlier. Meggie doesn't get to the half of it, but yeah.

There have been 32 people signed up for the "We Love Leigh Castergine" Febbuk page. I'd say there's a better than even chance 0% of them had heard of her before today.

Call Pam Frisella. A milestone has been reached! I think Mejia is alright. And I would presume to think that the opinion of New York Times dance critic Alastair Macaulay would be agreeble.

Mejia's slider is like the best pitch anybody on this team throws (excluding Harvey). They're missing it by a foot right now. Haven't seen a lot of that the last few weeks.

Hope and fear, man. We all got plenty of acreage of both. But where you gonna build your house?

This might slightly affect his range at shortstop. WHoAH!

The Rules: I name a team, and ask you who that guy on team that pisses you off. You know... that guy. Tell me who pisses you off on that team and why. You can be reasonable or unreasonable. Wise or foolish. Pissiness is a radical and unpredictable force that takes on a life of its own. You then ask about another team for the next poster. We can repeat teams, but if successful, we might want to at least try to work your way around the league. Who's that guy that pisses you off... on the Reds?

Enjoyed Lagares' walk as much as any of his hits, I think.

But he has gotten four hits. That's a total of 13 for the Mets, which more or less equals their August total.

Be careful not to hit your head on a rock though.

G-Fafif wrote: It is assumed the tickets VP was let go for lousy ticket sales, which positions the Mets as their usual punch line, but it hasn't been substantiated that was the case. It hasn't even been confirmed that it wasn't her idea to leave. It could be anything from philosophical differences on pricing to problems with Jeffy's Cheerios. I understand the Mets haven't exactly earned the benefit of anyone's doubt in off-field matters (and not too many in on-field matters), but I'm willing to wait for the discouraging details of what actually happened to leak out before LOL'ing at the Mets for this move. Alternatively, you might want to take a jump into Lake Reactionary head first.

Dilson Herrera taking a no-errorer into the second.

If Terry goes, the drumbeat for Backman will be so strong, there'll be absolutely no press agitation for Bobby 2.0 as there has been in the past. Backman (or the notion of Backman) will give the press all the hope for story-generating personality that Bobby gives, with none of the baggage. And they'll sell him to the fans as the fiery leader the Mets need and the brass fears. (This will double bait the management to look weaker than the press --- if you don't hire him, you're cowards, if you do, it's to capitulated to us. HAH!) What they'll never ask is whether Backman is as smart or as qualified as Bobby. Maybe he is. But I really think Boston wrecked the last piece of Bobby's brand. Anyways, let's crush some Penny on a railroad track and dedicate the win to Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Todd Zeile, and Bobby Valentine.

This was the exchange that led Valentine to say, "Two guys got hit, but theirs had the bigger icepack, so I guess we won." Classic Bobby quote, in that one can read it as to say, "Let's move on and not make too much of it," or one can read it as to say, "HA-HA! Fuck you, Cliff Floyd, and fuck you, Marlins!" Cliff was pissed and hung on to his pissedness, subsequently declaring he'd have never signed with the Mets had Valentine still been manager, prompting Wide BeeGee to retort, "I can think of 26,233,712 reasons he might."

Chris Young, promoted by the Yankees.

History hasn't given us a lot of second basemen with 1.000+ OPSes, but it's given us far fewer ones with sum-.900 fielding percentages.

He's punching along at a Hobsonian .880, thank you very much.

Juan Lagares has been named Defensive Player of the Month, which, if I knew it was a thing, I had forgotten. But it's a thing. Andrelton Simmons stole a series from the Mets, but Juan Lagares, you are DPotM!

That comment was worthy of Rich Goodhard Becker.
