  1. Unless he ends up at third, with Dilson at second. Mets lineup isn't posted yet, but Twitterers are reporting that Wright will be sitting out to rest his wonky shoulder, with a possible re-examination.
  2. Derek Jeter is so awesome he made his glove intangible.
  3. That's worth celebrating.
  4. Or, in one-sentence summary form: "We just interrupted this ballgame to give you a mental image of your daughter being raped by a dangerous maniac --- please give us money."
  5. "Use him as appropriate," seems fine. There's what? --- 18 games left? How detailed a plan does Terry need to present?
  6. The funny thing is we've transitioned pretty smoothly over the Steiny years from Guidry to Mattingly to Jeter. Who will take up the banner to represent all that is Yankees about the Yankees? Gardner? Tanaka? I imagine Yankee fans aren't feeling it.
  7. I can't see the harm in using him in other stations --- including leftfield --- if that's strategically appropriate. And it could be. But I see no point in forcing the issue. He's had a full season, and tasted some big league success.
  8. Guy who plays less until next year.
  9. If Murphy is healthy, Murphy will play.
  10. Predicting tomorrow's tabloid headlines tonight. CURTIS BLOW!!
  11. Mets gain on Milwaukee and Atlanta. Philadelphia rally falls short and Pittsburgh hangs in there as the second Wild Card holder. David Buchanan, who has been pouring in nothing but quality starts through the second half the season, goes tomorrow against Endison Volquez. GO PHILLY!
  12. Thoughty Thoughts on the Game: 1. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Johnny Franco is in the booth with Howie tonight. To his credit he advised against using a returning-from-the-disabled-list guy in a tight game before Arenado took Black deep. It's hard to discern if this is a factor that Terry doesn't consider or considers but dismisses. I'm pretty certain I double switch when I bring in Buddy and try to get more than a third of an inning out of him. 2. That was an outfielder brought in for defense that Grandy's drive got past. 3. Is d'Arnaud the dude or what? 4. Thinking long and hard here in my home about how much I sit Duda vs. lefties in the fewcha. 5. Niese seemed in command like I haven't seen him in a while. Really strong on the outside part of the plate against righties. 6. Surprised to see Curtis take third base there. Wondering if he makes that call on his own or he picked up Teufel. 7. For a team that plays in a cavernous ballpark, them's was some shitty outfield arms on display for Colorado. 8. Buddy Carlyle (I still want to spell it "Carlisle") is almost certainly going to be left alone rather than re-signed by the Mets, at least until after the Rule V draft. But what more could you ask out of him and Eveland? Give whoever scouted those two guys raises and promotions. We have all this minor league pitching talent waiting for a chance and these two baseball Bedoins have held them all off. 9. Nieuwenhuis and den Dekker need to decide on who gets to wear the beard. They have too much in common right now to be working with the same look. 10. We saw Colorado and Anaheim early in the season. The former looked like a well-oiled machine and the latter like stinking mess. Five months later and the former is limping home and the latter as good as anybody.
  13. And... maybe a little rusty. I remember falling in love with Arrenado back in Colorado.
  14. Hey! Vic Black is still active!
  15. Blown away by Buddy.
  16. Blake Doyle, Denny Doyle, and Brian Doyle are brothers. Blake and Brian are twins. I had no idea any of them were related in any way.
  17. "The father could not but Jeterate his daughter..."?
  18. Yeah, Mighty Joe Young made a pretty good target, too, but how could you be certain what you had on you could take him down. He's an unprecedented being in the theater of war and pretty much any place else. I'd be terrified. Meanwhile, Niesey throwing it past people.
  19. Mister Met in a camouflage uniform this evening. Could you imagine being in a battle and coming over the hill and seeing THAT guy coming the other firing way at you?
  20. Ceetar wrote: Sarcasm is always founded. ??? Enjoy the game.
  21. Yeah, that three-games-in-six accusation still doesn't hold up. Come on. Cut the unfounded sarcasm. You're the positive guy.
  22. I guess that's supposed to be blaming the Mets --- again --- for that entirely unfounded notion that they somehow hurt the team by disproportionately starting Abreu. But come on, you had to make up numbers that entirely didn't exist then. Why poison another thread and return to that thesis now? Why, why, why? Goodness is happening.
  23. Please let not posterity confuse that fragment with an actual quote of mine.
  24. The funny thing is that the narrative of Jeter's retirement decision was that "Unlike Willie Mays, he elected to go out on his own terms" (as if he hasn't now been a bad player for far longer than Willie). But when it's clear that this whole thing is crass and pathetic, it's all "Derek doesn't really want this." Like he's helpless in the matter. The Mets should have a year-long retirement ceremony for Bobby Abreu or Tim Byrdak or somebody.
  25. Hoping to see a Duda Bomb or two in this game.
