  1. Duda, Cuddyer, Campbell, Nieuwie... maybe the dead are rising.
  2. I went back and checked on those double plays. GIDP: D Muno (1); J Mayberry (1); J Lagares (6); L Duda (6). So, somehow that magic occurred without contributions from Campbell or Cuddyer, whom my eyeballs insist are our two greatest GiDP offenders. They in fact took a day off from their struggles that day, garnering two hits a piece.
  3. At least a more balanced team out there, depending on whether Cuddyer can answer the bell. Still would have liked to have found to way to get a look at Castellanos. 4. Man, what an egregious insult to Wilfredo Tovar.
  5. The leagues and the parks in the Mets system tends to cause hitters to start out with pedestrian stats and produce more eye-popping numbers as they climb the ladder. Pitchers tend to work the opposite way knocking them out when they start out but hitting progressively more unfriendly environments. Fulmer has a chance to defy all that, hitting his stride in Bingo.
  6. I'm a Verrett fan because he finished last season ahead of both Syndergaard and Matz, and while they were coming strong and were perhaps likely to pass him soon enough anyhow, he got waylaid on his Rule V odyssey while they finished up their minor league grind. The good news such as it is is that the nature of six man rotations suggests that the team shouldn't have to rely on anybody too much.
  7. #VoteFamilia ?@Mets 2h2 hours ago Starting right now every time you tweet #VoteFamilia it counts as a vote. RTs count too--RT this! #VoteDozier #Whiff Well, that's no way to run a country.
  8. If they disable Matzimillion, as increasingly seems likely, I'm guessing they'll initially call up a bench player or reliever until his time in the rotation comes around, assuming they stick with the six-man And with the day off, that time in the rotation won't necessarily be coming around soon.
  9. The New York Mets just ended a streak of nine games without a homer. And as amazing as it was, it's extra amazing that it was ended by Eric Campbell, who had been doing a pretty excellent imitation of a human dampening switch for most of the season. I investigated whether this approached our team's longest-ever clout drought, and I found the question had already been investigated back in 2011 during a similar dry time, when Justin Turner ended a 10-game period of power rationing. And according to baseball-reference, this recent streak didn't even crack the franchise's top ten. (I checked, and the list hasn't expanded since 2011). In case your Daddy never told you, the 1980 Mets were pretty atrocious at the hitting thing. 2. The 2011 streak stands out, amazingly, in that the Mets otherwise didn't seem to be hitting poorly. But the 1969 team actually went 11 games without a homer... and produced a winning record over the same span! 3. Just look at September 1964. I've seen offenses struggle and I've seen them fail, but team is being carried across the finish line. Even compared to the rest of the teams on the list, those numbers are terrifying. They didn't even steal a base! 4. Home runs are good things. The can cover a lot of ills, anyhow. And Terry, they're bad to waste in the leadoff position.
  10. Montero, long-tossing with bullpen scheduled next. Surgery is scheduled for Saturday.
  11. The Jays reward my faith in their batting by going out and doing a Mets imitation, wasting a fine R.A. Dickey start in a 20 loss to the White Sox.
  12. I may be wrong, but I think you are quoting my post, but seemingly speaking to a point contained elsewhere.
  13. Collin has lofty win-loss numbers (9-4) but his ERA (4.54) suggests he's coming back to earth. Fans were turning on him back in June. Maybe they need the poem above too.
  14. Heck, I'll just bounce this baby to the AaPF, and he's all mine.
  15. Merandy Gonazlez pitches with the Gulf Coast Mets. He's 19 years old, has 30 career games under his belt, and I can't even find a picture of him online. But he just pitched a seven-inning no-hitter. Walked one and struck out six. The G-Mets made two errors behind him, which implies he pitched well enough to stretch his effectiveness at least 2/3 of an inning further. In fact, the last time he faced the GCL Marlins (the Guppies?) back on June 22, he threw five hitless innings. So I think it's safe to say that somebody has somebody else's number. That's 12 innings of no-hit, one walk, 13 strikeout ball between the two starts. Merandy. Make a note.
  16. I asked for clarification, so no, it wasn't (and still isn't) clear enough for me. What does "the post" mean?
  17. seawolf17 wrote: d'Kong76 wrote: Edgy MD wrote: McGehee is a trip. He's obsessed with playing the game right way, which is practically synonymous with being a dick. He's got a wrestler's roidy-lookin' case of male pattern baldness. He's an inspiration when he's hitting, but can disappear for months at a time, with no corresponding dialing down of the attitude. He's practically John Buck without the catching gear. He's white, so we're legally obliged to term him a "throwback" a throwback to the time when all ballplayers were dangerous sociopaths living by the code of a brutal street gang. I'm amazed at how on top of every player people are here. And you should see Edgy's scouting report on Mrs. McGehee. Sarah's alright. She eschews the played-out blond dye of the MLB trophy-wife standard, she keeps fit without putting up duck-lip selfies on the web, and she's raising a special needs child and supports and advocates for United Cerebral Palsey. She's expressed interest in adopting a second special-needs child, and even if that doesn't come to pass, speaks well of her. And, hey, if she's half that alright, props to Casey too.
  18. I'm not sure whose assumptions you're talking about, as you directly reference my post.
  19. Wow, Simon says (seewhatIdidthere?) there's no point in investing in a team with 20% odds this morning of making the playoffs. Thanks, Quitkowski. I hate trades but I disagree. If it's the right deal, it's the right deal. And the Mets, I imagine, are perfectly capable of calculating the playoff odds increased in 2015 against the playoff odds possibly lost long-term.
  20. Well, certainly they aren't remotely flattering, but those are the indicting bits. (Merged with the parent thread.)
  21. That article is more flattering than it is indicting, at least over the first two paragraphs. The thesis we come around to by the third paragraph, that the Mets are failing to sign free agents in a large part because of their image, is surreal. As if the Mets were hotly pursuing Scherzer, but he went in a different direction because of the classier organization that Washington offered.
  22. Smells, looks, sounds, tastes, and feels bush league.
