I drew the line at my fatigue point. I can add them laters.

A series or two before the break, the Mets were seeing if they could jostle Philly at the bottom of the runs-scored rankings. Well, they're not jostling anymore. Tough break, Chicago. Where's Ron Kittle when you need him? We're knocking on Seattle's door, too. Resuming Baseball Activities-Recoveries in 2nd half of 2015
Edgy MD replied to Centerfield's topic in New York Mets Talk
Raffy Montero. One scoreless inning against teenagers with the GCL Mets. YAY!! -
In the future, I'll conflate Dustin Lawley with Dustin Martin, another white center fielder who was productive lower down in the chain but found himself stalled after moving up. At least Martin helped get us Luis Castillo.
-
The grim reaper came through Binghamton during the All-Star break. All of these are surprising. Lawley was a PSL MVP and (I think) Sterling Organizational Player of the Year back in 2013. Rodriguez was at one point recently in their top 20 prospects, according to some rankers. And Pina... well, he was considered very toolsy. Skipped Kingsport like a boss. He gets cut loose with a .305 / .323 / .407 // .730 line. The Mets' system has better players in their trash than other teams have in their staring lineup. All had success in the low minors but hit a ceiling at Bingo. Best wishes, gents. That 20% post-season likelihoodthe one that had Quitkowski throwing his cards down on the tableis now at 38.7%.

And that's Trout, year in and year out. Harper probably can haver a more monstrous MVP year, but Trout is just gonna give you a top three- or four-season every year, and a few #1s. That's the guy you want. But I'm just playing old-scout-from-Moneyball-with-a-hearing-aid, and he's 6'2" and 230 and I just don't know how long he can fly like that. Not much longer, to my thinking. He's a center fielder in a third baseman's body.

Frayed Knot wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I haven't detected any gooeyness. I'm worried that Met fans are getting a bit gooey on Zobrist. Indeed. But he's not a Met a strangely appealing quality for Met fans. And he has Maddon genes. The appeal of Zobrist is you can always stick him somewhere, depending on who is hurt and/or who is slumping. What to do if he's hurt or slumping... or finished... is another matter. Zobrist would end Don Zimmer's uninterrupted run lasting the entire history of the franchise as the last Met in alphabetical order. THAT has appeal.

Looper had one day where he was suddenly throwing 98 and blowing the opposition away, very uncharacteristically, whereas he had been previously peaking 95 on a good day. The next day he was hurt, and I confess that I suspected that he had dosed up on some PEDs, briefly became a beast, and blew something out.

I haven't detected any gooeyness.

And the thing is, we do have all our closers with us. With injury returns and ended suspensions, the Mets now have the 2015, 2014, and 2013 closers all on the roster at once.

St. Lucie actually acted as host of the Florida State League All Star Game, which took place back in June. And more St. Lucie players were apparently added to he roster at a later date. The FSL South Team, shut out the FSL North team 60, and as Florida is known as the only state where north is south, this is a good thing. Jeff McNiel (.320 / .378 / .402 // .779) led off and played second the whole game (he had been focused on third previously but this year the Mets seem to be moving him around more), going 2-5 with a run scored. Colton Plaia (.263 / .314 / .344 // .658 in 58 games) caught a few innings and went 01. Maikis de la Cruz (.255/ .315 / .342 // .656) played right and left, going 0-3 with a walk. Michael Conforto (.283 / .350 / .462 // .811) was on the roster also, but had been promoted to Binghamton before the game took place. Similarly, Akeel Morris (the Familia of the FSL with a 1.69 ERA in 32 innings) did not appear as he was futzing around the big leaves instead, and Robert Gsellman (6-0 / 1.76 as a starter, yo) had been bumped up to Bingo. The only St. Lucie pitcher who did appear was Mike Hepple (2.37 ERA in 25 games, but likes to walk people), who gave up two hits in two thirds of an inning but got out of it with a strikeout, and is no relation, that I know of, to Wilbur Huckle.
-
I think the disparity is that a lot of what amounted to intentional walks didn't go down in the record book as such. The catcher didn't stand up and signal as such, but the game accounts indicated that the pitcher appeared to be deliberately throwing junk away from the plate no matter the count or game situation. The irony was that Oh himself was treated as an unworthy foreigner in his day. The fans came around, and NPB did eventually too.

Your Pacific Coast League PotW is Las Vegas 51s twirler Darin Gorski. Darin got only one start, but struck out 10 in six innings while allowing only a single un-earned run. He previously earned PotW honors once with Binghamton back in 2013. This run of success in the midst of an up-and-down season comes at a good time for Darin Gorski, following the Steven Matz injury, as the Mets may be choosing from among several pitchers should they return to the six-man rotation after the All-Star Break, and he's thrown his hat into ring alongside those of Logan Verrett, Matthew Bowman, Dillon Gee, and maybe Matz himself.

Mets Who've Fanned Three in an Inning in All-Star Play Tom Seaver (1968) Tug McGraw (1972) Dwight Gooden (1984) Sid Fernandez (1986) Jacob deGrom (2015)
-
Two-time defending ASG MVP is a pretty nice calling card, too.
-
Home field or not, no ASG manager has managed to win in 50 years. Mets will have to win the World Series in six.
-
How about leaving deGrom in for another inning of deGromination?
-
I was wondering about those two, but I couldn't identify either. Randy Jones never looks comfortable in his skin, does he? He looks like he's trying desperately to keep in a fart there. Who's the Cubs' Ron Cey lookalike?
-
You can see Daniel Ray Herrera bringing it for Camden in the Atlantic League this summer. I love that somebody woke up in the morning one day and said, "You know, fuck it, I'm bringing independent minor league baseball to Camden."

Tawd Frazja still sounds Noo Juhrzy.

First All-Star ever to fan the side on 10 pitches.
