He actually hasn't been counted against the 40. The team, which stands to benefit from the PED abuse as much as the player, rather than getting punished along with him, gets both salary relief and roster relief for the duration of his suspension. They can make room easily enough by transferring Rafael Montero or Buddy Carlyle to the 60-day DL. Heck... David Wright!

Good at-bats by Nieuwenhuis tonight. Don't think he's had any swing-and-misses.

Lots of hard-hit infield outs. Let's elevate just a bit, men.

That weird little worm-burner may end up being the Giants' only hit.

Way to throw out Duffy from the Oakland side of the bridge, Ruben.

That was about as seeing-eye as they come. Not sure Tejada would have had him, had he picked it, but gosh, both gloves were in position, but too high.

Hitting the ball hard but at-em a lot this evening.

Giants not wearing name-on-backs, but the ballboys are.

Come on, gents. He's subbing for Duda for the evening. It HAD to be done.

Hit by Tejada. Suck on it, Omega Man.

Have to admit, the redemption (or attempted redemption, depending on how you look at it) of Kirk Nieuwenhuis was not something I expected. I wonder what Wally Backman says to guys who he sends up to the majors but ricochet back to him. He was called up at the end of 1980 along with Mookie and Hubie, but as those two established themselves as big leaguers, Backman was sent down for the better part of three years while the Mets futzed around with Brian Giles, which, in retrospect, was a strange way for the Mets to be treating a number one draft choice. Wally grew so frustrated that he made noise about retiring, and had to be talked out of it, possibly by Davy Johnson. Grohl is alright.

Or a trade.

Not looking good for Travis d'Arnaud.

Gabriel Ynoa named Florida State League Pitcher o' the Week. He only started one game, but it was a complete-game, one-hit shoutout, striking out six and walking zippo. John Gant named Florida State League Pitcher o' the Week. He allowed one earned run over 14 innings in two starts, striking out 15 and walking three. They're so awesome, here they are playing catch from 1,240 miles apart. Yeah, I'm not really advocating so much as sensing that something feels ready to go down and the Mets and Dodgers match up well with regard to their assets and liabilities.

At least, I think the first guy is named Killian. Anyhow, they're making a Rangers fan out of me. [fimg=600]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/screen-shot-2015-07-06-at-3-23-23-pm.png[/fimg]

There may indeed be no harm. But considering sending guy to the bigs with a month of experience above A+, presumably to be an everyday player, is almost never done, one has to believe there is the potential for harm. With regard to the alleged precedents from Houston and Minnesota, is there a case I'm overlooking?

Kind of surprised to see the Mets get out of town without the Niese-Ethier deal going down. Niese and Ethier certainly passed their auditions. And Cuddyer and Bolsinger certainly failed theirs. With Carlos Frias DL-bound, the Dodgies are looking hot to act.

Centerfield wrote: Is Mejia healthy? Last time we saw him he was sprinting off the field holding his elbow. Well, he hurt his elbow. He never actually made it onto the field. Initial test showed no structural damage. He's done fine during rehab, striking out 10 and walking zero in six innings.

Hey, I'm not advocating for Verrett's dismissal. Just trying to read the tea leaves. Who do you see going down? Who would you have go down? It's hard. Even as tabloid writers continue to advocate amazingly, to my thinking for the Mets to deal for veteran bullpen help.

Brandon hasn't yet gotten out of the short season leagues, but he had a game of a lifetime today, DH-ing for Brooklyn. He grand-slammed in the first inning and finished with seven RBI. Brosher, who is aligned to catching and outfielding when he's not broshing the ball all over the ballpark, missed all but seven games last year. But what a seven games, going .387 / .424 / .774 // 1.198, hitting four homers in the homer-stingey Appalachian league. Not bad for a 36th-round pick from 2013. Mine.

Mickey Jannis debuted with St. Lucie to the tune of seven innings, three hits (all singles), with four walks and three strikeouts. Guys... he's a knuckleballer. And he's pitched in Australia.

There's some talk of lex Torres falling out of favor, but I kind of got the idea that Verrett's three innings today was something of a sendoff, and they're maybe going to send him down to get him starting again in case they need another starter, or to prepare to compete for a rotation slot next season.

A third of the way through the crucible with a 2-4 record. Hmmm...
