Pushing the .500 mark back is hard going these last two months, but the Mets hit a milquetoast milepost recognized by only the few, having now become a .490 team over their last 8,000 games, going back to Monday, May 31 (game one), 1965. 3920-4080 over that period. Verrett looking at a three-inning save.

Three-hitters are nice things. "The Dodgers have three harmless singles. Murmurs of protest, at best." Vin Scully

Verrett grabbing an at-bat with the bags juiced, but he's not hitting like a Met pitcher. NO ROOM IN THE ROTATION FOR YOU!

Not to look too far ahead, but since he's on the mound, Verrett looks like a candidate for the rotation next year.

PUIG'S TRADE VALUE PLUMMETING!!

Five-zip. This is a feeling. I remember it.

Cuddyer pursuing Duda's strikeout pace. Not to be exploitative, but they maybe should have seen his injury as an opportunity.

Leadoff double for Flores. Let's go for that five-run game!

Indeed. Doesn't have a big arsenal, but he's got it all working well. Dodgers are going to go ahead with the Juan Uribe Bobblehead giveaway after dealing him off.

Duda is on a strikeout tear of Kingmanian proportions.

That's three straight balls outside the strike zone you (weakly) chased after there, Ruben.

Scully making a lot of unforced errors these last few days. Flores is "the eighth-place hitter." And the Mets get their first three-run inning in what must be a month.

A big inning! -ish! And now they're walking a guy to load 'em up in front of Lucas. Mercy.

Matz is now the undisputed RBI leader among major league pitchers.

Duda couldn't have done much with that strike-three pitch.

Eight games without a first-inning run, sez Vin Scully. Vin now sharing his 1962 memories.

Nice to have enough modestly productive hitters to stack up top. Nice to make a run out of it. Let's make a bunch more.

He pitched with a bloody nose last year.

A warm welcome to the newest Mets property, Mickey Jannis. Mickey, a 44th-round draftee of Tampa Bay in 2010, has the returns to affiliated ball for the first time since 2011. He comes most recently from YOUR Long Island Ducks where he's put up 1.18 ERA for the 2015 edition of Bud Harrelson's Water Fowl. You figure, "Oh, that's nice, but it's specialized and target relief appearances, right?" No, NOT right. Mickey's appeared in 16 games, 11 of which have been starts. He's got 83 2/3 2015 innings under his belt, and that's enough to make that ERA legitski. How many innings have you thrown, Smartass? Mickey reports now to the St. Lucie Mets, and if he makes it to Binghamton, well, it'll be as high as he's ever gotten in his 27 years of of earthly dwelling. And you thought the Mets were sitting on their hands. ubd. Well, at least there was some fight in the dog.

This is where a little bit more run-manufacturing capacity might have come in a handy a little bit.

Pinch-run deGrom at first, Terry!

Plawecki hits and is the tying run at first with no out. Don't DEEP, Cuddyer. Just don't. AMERICA.
