  1. Man, he was looking strong. I'd sure give him the ninth.
  2. Suck it, eighth inning. A hidden factor in dominance. The more plays the pitcher makes, the more a team is being dominated. In fact, the number of plays made by the pitcher is one of the hidden-but-useful ways to measure the level of play in a league.
  3. I dunno. He certain broke contact with the bag. I wasn't sure the glove was on him when he did, but I imagine the review crew saw otherwise.
  4. You guys getting those Draft Kings ads. Bleh.
  5. Almost always a good thing.
  6. Suck it, side. You've been fanned.
  7. Bart has given me honesty, integrity, quality, and service.
  8. I guess we might see Reed tonight.
  9. Love my lefty lineup.
  10. I'm sure their record in camp is more or less similar to their general record, but it feels like 3-20.
  11. It's funny. Terry was mad enough when he had his leading power hitter (at least, until Duda's early August surge) batting leadoff all year. Now the heavens have conspired to give him a greater power hitter, and Terry bats him second. Terry don't give a shit. He's re-inventing baseball right in front of your eyes.
  12. Well, I'm guessing the voters don't typically measure by WAR, but Fangraphs ranks it differently. 1) Clayton Kershaw: 6.6 2) Jake Arrieta: 5.4 3) Zack Greinke: 5.1 4) Max Scherzer: 4.9 5) Madison Bumgarner: 4.4 6) Gerrit Cole: 4.3 7) Jacob deGrom: 4.1 T8) Jon Lester: 3.6 T8) Tyson Ross: 3.6 T10) Michael Wacha: 3.2 T10) Matt Harvey: 3.2
  13. That's the flip side. May even be why he stopped in the first place.
  14. We need to talk about this. Somehow, as word got around and people started laying off Familia's darting slider at the shins, and sitting fastball, and his walks went up and he became more hittable, he added a new pitch to his arsenal mid-season, and it's utterly devastating. He seems to go to it when lefties aren't biting at the slider. And Keith noted that he's already in danger of falling in love with it, but man. If he gets all three of those working to even a modest extent, he's going to be un-hittable. He's already spent August un-scored upon. Good hitters weren't touching it. If he gets to the playoffs against teams that haven't seen this pitch and have scarcely seen him under any circumstances he has a chance of being a nightmare and a national story if his control cooperates.
  15. Yes, thank you. I wrote that on Saturday, and he was DL'd yesterday.
  16. Reed needs digits. He's worn 43 throughout his career. That technically belongs Buddy Carlyle, but his season is over. And really, how often do you see two guys vying for 43? It's one of the five least sexy two digit numbers there are.
  17. He's a moon landing skeptic with as many runs scored as Andrew McCutcheon.
  18. Dillon Gee fans 10 in six innings, but allows three runs (two earned). Las Vegas enters the bottom of the eighth tied at three before Dario Alvarez and Zach Thornton conspire to cough up two, and Las Vegas loses to Round Rock. The win shaves a full game of their lead, whittling it to a game and a half over El Paso, who won. Magic number sits at eight, with the 51s hosting El Paso for a four-game set in the penultimate series of the season. This is where it all gets real. Travis Tajeiron's homer puts him within two of league leader Adam Duvall, who has split time between Sacramento and Louisville.
  19. No expectations, but I guess there's a real opportunity to bury the Nats here, provided the Phillies and Cardinals cooperate.
  20. 117) Brian McCann: 128 (#9 among actives) 136) Carlos Ruiz: 122 (#10) 171) Shane Victorino: 111 (#11) 196) Ian Desmond: 105 (#12) 218) Aramis Ramirez: 99 (#13)
  21. I think we have a new Cy Young leader, Zack.
  22. Shup and tell me who's next. Among active players, that is.
  23. That's some good game recappin'. Felix Millan's grand-daughter should be their semi-regular canary. Make her a Sunday regular or something. Bloodlines!
