  1. Nah. Baseball needs it's heels. The Mets are gonna win about 1200 games over the next decade, and things would get real boring if they upped that to 1300 or 1400.
  2. It's strange to find myself rooting for a superstar to land with the Yankees, but that's kind of where I'm at. I'm fine with him staying in Washington, certainly.
  3. Milo Hamilton, long-, long-time MLB play-by-play announcer, who called Hank Aaron's 715th, among many other milestones, has died. Spent the second half his career in Houston, but he also worked for the Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, Braves, and Buccos. Fantastic taste in jackets.
  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yesterday the Mets were idle, and the Nationals lost to the Marlins. Yesterday's game was just one of many, probably inconsequential in the long run, but it definitely makes today look quite a bit brighter after the previous couple of days Shifts the pressure from the Mets to the Nats, which is no small thing.
  5. Strange, but even though it's an inter league series, I get the idea that the Mets have to go with an A lineup all three three games. That Texas-Houston sweep was remarkable. Barabara Bush must be pissed. First she found out that Jeb was a stoner, and now this.
  6. 27 innings in the field all year. That's insanely counterproductive. Even David Ortiz has more than twice that many.
  7. #of people who want to click on that link and hear that track < 9
  8. That's great. As far ahead as they may be, a win there would have totally put the pressure on the Mets going into the Yankee series.
  9. AND TAYLOR SWINGS AND MISSES! STRIKE THREE!
  10. Shramos walks. FOUR PITCHES, Morris! Tying run on second, go-ahead on first. Closer A.J. Ramos coming in.
  11. Two-run single for Desi. Now Ramos, who has not done much since his grand slam against the Mets.
  12. He's out, but Moore works the walk. Tying run at the plate!
  13. Werth up against the lefty Dunn. Tying run on deckles.
  14. Hang in there, little fishes!
  15. Fee Wayvill, what kind of YLDB are you?
  16. [fimg=550]http://mlb.mlb.com/assets/images/0/8/0/103152080/Jay_Zglasses_13c6qvuu.jpg[/fimg] Actually I kind of love this sort of YLDB. By donning a Yankee hat, it allows me to be certain that I already have them in the right silo. When these sorts of YLDBs put a Mets hat on, it makes my brain hurt. What's that? Jay Z's in a Yankee hat? Well, then, all's right with the world. Wait... Snookie's in a Mets hat? bzzpt... does not compute! circuits frying... daisy, daisy, what's a boy to do...
  17. Or cancel the post-season and call the Mets "Super Champions" if we can hold out and win the division. Most of the heavy lifting is done that way.
  18. All of a sudden, that draw looks tougher for the Mets.
  19. You know the type. By day, he's a counter clerk at AutoZone. He'll make sure you get the right wipers for your car and recommend that you rotate your tires more frequently. But in the evening, rather than taking his steady girl Angie out for a nice little dinner at Applebee's, he squanders all his spare money to buy front-row bleacher seats, downs 4 or 5 $11 Bud Lights, and then he morphs into this guy: The peripherals are so great in this shot. There's the guy behind Autozone Guy. He just repeats "F. You!" three times because after the second or third beer, that's all he can say. There's the guy to AZ's right, lovingly explaining to his kid how AZ interfered with a ball in play, and this is what we all aspire to. There's the guy one row back on the left, explaining the same to his kid in green. And speaking of peripherals, there's a guy next to Stogie McRingbrandish wearing a "Mets Suck" tee shirt, spoiling for a fight he can't win because he weighs in at about 120. But it's OK, because he's traveling with a pack.
  20. A bloodletting. I suspect Loop resurfaces as a part-timer at Newsday, just to keep his profile up, but lives off his young adult novels and occasional TV.
  21. This thread needs a second page, or else the terrorists win.
  22. I think they're never gonna score again.
  23. Great to see Wright finding the gap in this series. Four doubles. He had ONE coming in to town!
  24. Waiting for the offense to break through while the defense and pitching works without a net is very much like the FHaMs. Prado knocks Bartolo to the netless floor.
