  1. Vic Sage wrote: CF is, as almost always (and like THIRTEEN used to be), correct. Preach it, my brother from another mother. I don't get it. You (Centerfield) insist that you stand by what you wrote. What you wrote is everybody should be fired. It should all be blown up. That should mean you disown everything going forward if they don't blow up the organization. And here we are. If you embrace where we are, then you must certainly embrace that you weren't really right then. Otherwise, you can never really be wrong. That's no way to be.
  2. Centerfield wrote: It wasn't just that day's lineup, and you are aware of that. Well, that's what you wrote. It was the lineup they posted throughout the first four months of the season. No it wasn't. That team was 52-50 at the trade deadline. That's not so bad, in the scheme of things. It certainly didn't undermine where they are now. It was supposed to be the culmination of 5 years of rebuilding... It was far closer to a snapshot. ... and instead it was a laughable offense. That's not all it was. It was also an outstanding pitching staff, with a fantastic farm system just then graduating some of their best. With enough redundancy throughout to add pieces without removing the best players. And obviously, some of the best hitters on the disabled list, and others who weren't performing but either were still worth having faith in or weren't. Which way does a person go? Tough choice to make. You called for blowing everything up. I was absolutely judging the organization over their work over several years. Well, here we are.
  3. Gwreck wrote: It's obviously untrue that Alderson hadn't done anything useful. Selective quoting there. My claim on June 24 was "But Alderson still hasn't done anything useful to upgrade the offense, even with whatever resources he does have. " I think we can agree that he now has made substantial moves to upgrade the offense: trading for 3 players and calling up a fourth from the minors. Well, I was quoting it as Centerfield had it. He "hadn't done anything useful with the resources he had." I disagreed then and disagree now. I think the offense has prospered thanks to his machinations. It just wasn't obvious at the time, as offense was lost to the disabled list or still cooking in the minors. If the point was that the team was struggling offensively at the time, certainly. I disagreed that it called for a blowing up of the organization or a 12-game losing streak.
  4. Come on. Judging an entire organization and their activities over several years and demanding the firing of everyone over the day's lineup is the height of nearsightedness. This too was never going to get it done. Calling for a 12-game losing streak because you believe nobody will see problems that need to be addressed any other way? It's obviously untrue that Alderson hadn't done anything useful.
  5. And I'm saying he's not worthy of "MVP points" as he isn't one of the 10 most valuable players in the league. Yes, I understand that.
  6. Gwreck wrote: Happy to eat some crow here. That's good to hear. We've prepared a lot of it.
  7. Well, I'm not saying he's the MVP.
  8. GOOD bump.
  9. You see, there was this fan revolt that was supposed to happen... and.. forget it.
  10. You know, if you're going to win a game on walks, balks, and wild pitches, the hammock is where you want to be.
  11. Elster's on fire. The team went into the 2000 post-season with Whoever as their fourth starter. I'm OK with that. With health and hot hands and lefty-heavy vs. righty-heavy opponents, it'll sort itself out.
  12. Like, it's time to start wondering what kind of MVP points he'll earn. He's second in the league in fWAR among rightfieldios. 1) Bryce Harper Nationals: 8.5 2) Curtis Granderson: 4.9 3) Jason Heyward: 4.5 4) Giancarlo Stanton: 3.7 5) Ryan Braun: 2.8 6) Carlos Gonzalez: 2.7 7) Andre Ethier: 2.6 8) Ender Inciarte: 2.5 9) Gregory Polanco: 1.8 10) Hunter Pence: 1.6 11) Yasiel Puig: 1.5 12) Nick Markakis: 1.4 13) Aaron Altherr: 0.9 14) Chris Denorfia: 0.7 15) Jay Bruce: 0.7 Jay Bruce: aka the guy the Mets were supposed to get in addition to their deadline haul, to prove they were serious.
  13. Murphys homer Sunday was the third in franchise history that erased a three-plus-run deficit with the Mets down to their final out. It joined Victor Diazs three-run shot against the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 25, 2004, and Carl Everetts grand slam against the Montreal Expos on Sept. 13, 1997.
  14. I'm looking forward to this homecoming. I'm really excited to see how that fan revolt is coming along.
  15. I'm past begging to think tracking wins in the manner of this thread is entertaining anybody. But as the Mets close in 8,600 games (they are currently at 8,589 games... or 8,589 decisions, I forget), they also close in like a thief in the night on a .480 winning percentage, currently sitting at .4796833, their highest all-time win percentage since August 1, 2009, when it sat at a lofty .47974132. More importantly, further bad history has been eclipsed, particularly on the .490 front. The Mets are at least a .500 team over their last 5,886 games, going back to Saturday, August 19, 1978, an improvement of 3 games. The Mets are at least a .490 team over their last 8,151 games, going back to Saturday, August 15, 1964, an improvement of 32 games. The Mets are at least a .480 team over their last 8,583 games, going back to Thursday, April 19, 1962, an improvement of 1 game. Is your name, per chance, Chris Capuano? Well, then, the Mets have been an honorably performing .500 team your whole life. The Mets are now doing OK since before the fall of National Palace to the Sandanistas. Hey, check out how the Dodgers threw 691 wins worth of MLB pitchers at the Mets and still lost. [fimg=700]http://www.ultimatemets.com/scorecard_graph.php?game=2729&font=1[/fimg]

  17. Turns out I was wrong about Muno. He wasn't 60-Day'd but rather removed from the roster entirely. I suppose that makes him just as eligible as Reynolds if an emergency should arise. /notsoworriedanymore

  19. It happens, though, usually when a team wants a pitcher to get credited with a no-hitter, or some milestone, or simply wants his record cleaned of runs that shouldn't happen to him. And really, what's one error on a player's record, compared to three runs on a pitcher's? Any decent teammate of a fielder would give that to his pitcher every time.
  20. But of all teams to throw in the towel so... utterly... completely. Here's an organization that stood for quality year in and year out. Long-term planning, and changing on the fly without falling back... THAT WAS THE BRAVES! Did Dan Uggla break the whole franchise? I suppose he might've.
  21. Not for nothing, but what the Hell has happened to the Braves? Because that wasn't even close to the Mets' best out there.
  22. It's long-standing tradition, but it doesn't make sense that mis-judged flies are scored as hits.
  23. Zvon wrote: Can the Mets approach MLB about the scoring in this game? Or do they just let that slide. How many errors were called hits? 4? Home team scoring can have an edge, but you can't outright cheat and call those things hits. They can, but I imagine they won't.
  24. Great job, Reed. You made your daddy proud. Thanks for Addison Reed, jerks.
  25. Three runs on one hit. When did it get this easy?
