  1. Some good Dadwork going on behind home plate.
  2. [fimg=400:1p35ivw3]http://www.oldskoolhooligans.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/n/e/neilsketch_1.jpg[/fimg:1p35ivw3]
  3. Ron Darling: "Matt, as you can see... MUCH bigger athlete than he was three years ago." That's one way to put it.
  4. Primo seats behind the plate going to the service members today.
  5. That's right, Ty. Show 'em how you do it in the Pacific Coast League.
  6. Yeah, I know about Mitch from his visit to the Mets' booth a few weeks ago in San Diego, which is a big part of why it seemed heroic to see him take that long walk unaided. Lenny's belted gut was almost too easy an observation to make. Nonetheless, my wife and I made it, even if I didn't type it. MIA included Roger McDowell, who probably couldn't call in sick to the Braves, lest a missed day on the job undermine their 2016 pennant hopes. Somehow, he doesn't have the juice to ask for a blow from Brian Snitker. Doug Sisk, who couldn't miss an important date in the wine-selling game. Mel Stottlemyer or a representative. Great gravy on top from Greg. What an adventure!
  7. This probably would have been the day I pushed back against that thinking.
  8. Mets firing on something less than all cylinders. 10. Well, my problem isn't the save situation so much as the "we've got to keep running him out there" mentality. He's pitching poorly, so give somebody else the first shot at the highest-leverage inning. No biggie. Familia'll be back out there in a game or two, if not later in the evening. But we get so caught up in the politics of it, the manager's decision is down to replace him as the #1 guy or keep him as the #1 guy. So if he's pitching poorly, but not so poorly or so long-term that you're ready to knock him off his perch for the foreseeable future and possibly forever, you've got to keep running him out there when the game is on the line, rather than saying, "You know, this other guy has been throwing really well so I'm going to give him first dibs tonight, and we'll do what we can to get Jeurys locked back in." It's only takes a little bit of nuance, but it's the sort of decision making that wins you games. But managers don't allow themselves that authority any longer. Terry certainly doesn't.
  11. Ten years ago, James Loney hit .380 for Las Vegas when they were a Dodgers affiliate. Here's hoping a few games there gets his confidence in order. 12. Yes, the whole preferential-option-for-the-designated closer business is ruining America. And that's it.
  13. Man, Terry is staying with him against Gonzalez.
  14. That's pretty close to where I'm at. Syndergaard is getting way too close to Harvey territory for my comfort. Why are you trying to prove something? Just pitch and let your legend assemble itself. I really don't want to read about the Mets "showing balls" on the Internet one more time. I tuned in for a baseball game, not gay porn.
  15. Thoughts on the Ceremony Howie seemed to have a shake in his left arm as he adjusted his earpiece. He's got such a robust voice, you don't appreciate how long he's been at it. “Every championship team kneels a field Jenner.” Bud Harrelson seemed to have had some health problems in recent years we may not have heard about, but all things considered, Ed Hearn looked terrific. I’m not sure when I became older than Tim Teufel. I’m pretty sure that was Joe Petrucchio in Randy Niemann’s uniform. Dwight Gooden went 12-6? You’re robbing him of six victories, there, Howie. He's never going to get into the Hall of Fame that way. I'm not sure when Wally Backman got older than Davey Johnson. Strange that Gary’s son represented him, but not either of his daughters. Kimmy always seemed to take the role of stewardess of his legacy. Aguilera looks a little bit like George Lucas and a little bit like the Most Interesting Man in the World. Looks a little like my coke dealer, too. Danny Heep has a gay uncle thing happening. Looks like he stays fit and enjoys life. Kevin Mitchell looks like a truck hit him. Pretty heroic of him to make that walk. Sure looked like a struggle for him. My numerologically innocent wife laughed at the cliché-ness of “Number one in uniform and number one in your hearts” and then stopped suddenly and said, “Well, that’s TRUE,” when she realized he was talking about Mookie Wilson. Sid has a delicately controlled proud/angry look in his face, like a pastry chef with EXTREMELY high standards for his staff. Knight had a cool Bill Clinton lip-biting thing going. No way is Orosco’s hair still that lustrous. If so, I want to know his secret. Last time they did this, Keith was invited to speak, and he absolutely prepared nothing in the way of remarks. He ad-libbed like a kid who didn't do his book report for a few lines, and then decided to throw the mic to Mookie, who was even less prepared. Did nobody speak on behalf of the team this time?
  16. That's also an enormous number on that guy's back. In 1973, the Sox had no 38's. In 1972, they had two, but both were caucasians. In 1971, they had none. Before that, he was with Cleveland. So 38 remains some sort of spring training mystery guy. Could that number have been painted in?
  17. MLB.tv gave me the Fox telecast last night, but won't give me the ESPN one tonight. Freaking Disney.
  18. By hook or by crook, Mets. Score a freakin' run.
  19. First dude to strike out 300 since Randy Johnson. We don't need James Loney. We need Daniel Murphy.
  20. Why, no. I have no idea what happened just there.
  21. Mrs. Edgy: "Kershaw, huh? Who do the Mets have pitching?" Edgy: //Winds and throws in demonstrably soft-tossing manner, effecting Bartolo imitation // shakes belly// Mrs. Edgy: "Matt Harvey?"
  22. It strikes me that Mr. Young and Dumb has plenty of room to park on that block, but instead dropped his ride right next to the fire plug.
  23. Real men get the run home. And they're not proud about how they do it.
  24. Shoulda squeezed! Squozen! Squooshed!
  25. Plate him, Cespy! Yeah, squeeze if you gotta!
