  1. Yabbut... everybody knows... ONE is the Loniest number!
  2. Wayne Randazzo reporting that James Loney will be outfitted in #28, which totally kills my dream of dressing him in the currently vacant #1.
  3. Yeah, thus it depends on Wright's prognosis. A longer outage means a longer-term plan is needed, and more time to shuffle through the uncommitted-type plans. Also, Loney can certainly play himself right back off the team. It's not like he hasn't done that before.
  4. Yeah, I only mention it as a possibility. Walters has cleared waivers before and he's probably their best candidate to clear them again.
  5. One thing that really worked out last year is that, while the Mets hung in second, 1-3 games behind Washington six weeks in the mid-summer, they never panicked. Not only did they have players scheduled to return from injury (which is hard to count on), and trading chips (also no guarantee), but all summer long, oddsmakers looked to a meaningfully weak schedule over the last two months. And the Mets went and ate that up. I don't think they can necessarily count on that this year. Still, for what seems like a luke warm stretch, they have won seven of their last 10. Can't complain about that. Anyhow, Keith Hernandez said definitively last week that the West won't produce a Wild Card. Since then, San Francisco has had some serious helium elevating them ahead of the pack, but Los Angeles has entered the Wild Card picture after taking the series with the Mets. Everybody has pitching, but NL West is stacked with it this year. 6. We went through almost the same exact thing last year during Wright's extended outage, with Terry eventually settling on Murphy at second, Tejada at third, and Flores at short, which was stable, but Gary Cohen poked at it every day as "playing three guys out of position. He finally went with Flores-Tejada-Murphy when he realized things weren't getting any better, pretty much waiting for Murphy to give him unsolicited permission to move him over, and I imagine he'll do the same with Walker. Terry's not insane, just insanely deliberate. Especially when it comes to moving vets off their position.
  7. My guess is they'll do it sooner than you think, if not as fast as you like. It all unfolds from the Wright prognosis, of course, so we'll see.
  8. Terry is slow to mess with veterans and their positions, but I don't think sliding Walker to third is off the table. I just think they'll wait until there is confirmation of a long-term outage with Wright and/or have cycled through all other possibilities.
  9. The Mets will need room on the 40 for Lonesome, so it might take more than that. It could be a dramatic 24 hours. I suspect a possible DFA of Campbell and transfer of Walker to third is also on the table.
  10. If the Phillies can convert this 2-2 tie into a victory, the Mets will end Memorial Day weekend in first place, which isn't bad, considering.
  11. It was true... four years ago. He, of course, hasn't even been a "Giants outfielder" since then. He's spent two years with the Jays since then and is in his second year with the White Sox. I think Zvon submitted that post four years ago and the software just let it through today.
  12. In 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act, asking people to stop at 3:00 P.M. and "to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute." I don't think they could have planned it as such, but "God Bless America" began at exactly 2:58 EST. If you're gonna do "GBA," that's the way to do it.

  14. I figured the non-World Series-roster folks weren't include as a matter of course. I don't think any of them participated in the ceremony 10 years ago either. That Sisk thing is weird. If he's working in sales, you'd figure they cut him loose so he could do some interviews and work the brand's name into his answers. It's the reason you hire former jocks for sales jobs.

  16. Well, that was satisfying.
  17. Superdad has her on his shoulders, now.
  18. Good to see the first pitch overpower the batter.
  19. Hard hit balls that whole inning.
  20. It's just so obviously right to stick with Reed.
  21. Holy smokes, Familia rises.
  22. Reed looked good, but he got some calls there. He actually was spotting his pitches like Harvey used to.
  23. Zvon wrote: Does Thor get the 9th today? We wanna keep him sharp. That's an interesting option. I was thinking Hansel was gonna get it. Or they stick with Reed. Or they play matchups. Or I have no idea.
  24. You look at Ty Kelly, and you think "OK, everybody else must be on the juice."
