  1. I was going to say that also, and then my drive crashed mid-post.
  2. Niese's last start for the Mets? Six innings of shutout ball vs. Atlanta. He's hot!
  3. Agreed. Reaching on an error is to a large extent a product of making contact and hustling. That you get debits for that and credits for getting hit by a pitch doesn't seem particularly consistent.
  4. FK is right, though, T.J. has to stay on second. My guess is, if everything goes right, that Cespedes appears about the time Walker goes to the paternity list. Walker and Cabrera's returns knock out Rivera and Kelly, and Ruggiano (did he really happen?) doesn't get re-activated until after the rosters expand.
  5. Pineda was pulled after a 44-minute rain delay.
  6. Poor Ika!
  7. It'll come one way or anudder.
  8. I would have gone with Krukow and Reuschel. Probably Phil Niekro after that. On edit: Reuschel was fourth, with 97 confrontations with Keith. But Niekro was down there at 24th. I guess I'm forgetting the Braves were ever in the Western Division. Even Joe Niekro faced him more.
  9. Looks like we all bailed on this one about the same time.
  10. Two outfield errors sure helps, but nice to see De Aza hustling all the way.
  11. I've never even seen someone try, but it's one of the plays I hope to see before I die. Meanwhile, the Mets hit for the cycle that inning.
  12. A Synderbomb. That's the stuff, right there.
  13. That was the second opportunity this week for De Aza to try to tag two bases. Instead, zero?
  14. See if you can catch the Binghamton Mets on the way into or out of town. They've got the Rosario fellow and this Smith dude you might enjoy. You can visit some Twilight Zone locales, and hey, you'll be in the Valley of Opportunity
  15. Gary Cohen, Quoting Tim McCarver: Nothing slows down a game more than speed. Edgy MD: Well, theres Bastardo.
  16. Remember, Noah. You don't have to throw nine no-hit innings. Seven is fine.
  17. Of all the outlets to carry news of Choo-Choo's passing, he gets a write-up in The American Spectator. There's little new in there, but what I didn't know is that Choo was a 1969 Tidewater Tide, and therefore, amazin'ly, only a foul tip away from being a 1969 champ.
  18. I'm not sure what a "blow bouncer" is, but that was a double-play grounder if ever I saw one. My takeaway was , "We've got a pretty good chance of winning when the other team is trying to give us the game."
  19. Hate to say it, but Jankowski sure looked like a player.
  20. Ralph Kiner advocated at length for taking 3-0 almost as a rule, always reasoning that you're going to get the same pitch 3-1. He, of course, was Ralph Kiner. But I'm stunned by the counts and situations Mets are swinging in. The Old Mole shared a great story once, that Wes Westrum didn't have a take sign. He sent his players up there taking by default, until they got a swing sign. Rehire Westrum!
  21. Ah yes. Some of that Judeo-Christian bullsh*t did get in there. I’m in the more liberal wing of the religion. Bill, Rastafari is an Abrahamic religion. It ain't all dope smoking.
  22. I hope that's something more than wishful thinking in the face of disappointment, but his lack of power this season has been alarming. Making good consistent solid contact like he has, you'd think he'd log some homers if only by accident.
  23. Well, they should have run Ray by the third inning. He was wild in the strike zone, and he was wild outside of the zone. I tuned out after Jay Bruce let Granderson play Goldschmidt's gapper, turning it from an apparent double into a gimme triple. It drove me nuts when George Foster did that to Mookie Wilson 30 years ago, and it drives me nuts now. Don't give up these easy edges.
  24. Even when he walks, he wants to take his bat to first.
  25. Yeah, the Mets should have at least five by now.
