Trade Poll: Antonio Bastardo and Cash for Jonathon Niese
Edgy MD replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
Everybody who voted this trade down, please step up to the window and collect your winnings. The Knights Who Say Niese are now the Knights Who Say Knee Surgery. The Second Niese Era has ended with 11 innings pitched, an 0-1 record, an 11.45 ERA, 9 walks, 11 strikeouts, and a torn meniscus. That's two of us. Hey, I was one! http://www.espn.com.au/mlb/story/_/id/17385468/jonathon-niese-new-york-mets-likely-2016-knee-injury And yeah, before you check, Antonio Bastardo has done perfectly well with the Pirates. -

IGT 8/24 Mets v Birds deGrom v. C Martinez
Edgy MD replied to ashie62's topic in Archived Game Threads
Another first-pitch 6-4-3. Take shit, guys. You're in a four-run hole and the pitcher just walked a dude. -
One guess per post. No consecutive posts. Three points for a correct guess. Minus one for an incorrect guess. On edit: Hell, let's make it interesting. A VALUABLE GRAND PRIZE for the ultimate winner.

A quiz to suss out and celebrate those Mets who were consistently effective, over an extended period, while never being excellent. Name me the Mets top ten pitchers all-time in terms of wins, discounting any who have represented the Mets on a National League All-Star roster.

And ... grounding into a double play on the first pitch isn't going to get it done. -

Matt Ehalt, baby-faced Bergen Record beat guy and future supermarket publicist, may have scooped the field in getting a statement from Céspedes suggesting that he's going to forego his opt-out and serve out his full three-year deal. The problem is that everybody is quoting him but I can't find the original source quote. I gather that he was asked if he's going to spend the full three years in New York and got a terse "Yes" — which could mean a lot of things.

Worth noting that the Mets used all hands save Robles in the bullpen yesterday. A seven-inning-or-more turn by deGrom tonight would be a nice bailout. A 14-run lead would be even nicer. -

The only ones who didn't cooperate were the Bucs, who beat up on the heartless Astros.

IGT 8/23 Mets at Birds Niese v. J Garcia
Edgy MD replied to ashie62's topic in Archived Game Threads
I saw that and I thought "Bunt of the year." It wasn't, of course, but the effect on my psyche was palpable. I like the TwitterTrump tone of that TotG post. Weak! Low energy! That was an enjoyable performance but about as unsustainable as the come. Two on and the tying run at the plate in every inning, gimpy (again) Cspedes pulling a homer off the top of the fence, Cabrera jumping and snaring a two-out liner heading for the gap. Nobody lives that right for long. I've been planning for the transition of Granderson to bench player next year, but if Cspedes and Bruce stay healthy, he seems to be a good chunk of the way there already. With platoons already in place at first and second, Grandy seems reduced to being part of a three-headed centerfield platoon with Ruggiano and De Aza. -
Way to be positive, Babe!
