  1. I'd find it interesting to see the Mets trade a veteran guy who is modestly productive but sorta redundant on the bubble of not making a prospective post-season roster—Loney, De Aza, or even Bruce—at a cut rate to a team fighting the Cards or the Giants this last week. Heck, how cool would it be if Bruce ended up back on the Reds, even for a clearly lesser package than the Mets purchased him for? Return to sender. Votto would be delighted, and Jay would hopefully be so piqued that he'd club the shit out Cardinal pitching.
  2. Wright is perhaps even more out of sight, but has not been as removed from the psyche of Mets fans or their spending habits, I imagine. Part of that is Wright's longer tenure, to be sure. But I imagine that, taking away each of their ready ability to perform, Harvey doesn't leave you as much left to hang your hat on.
  3. Yeah, this thread goes down to the finish as a Gsellman/Lugo cage match.
  4. Just looking at the numbers here, and depending on how things shake out this week, Fernandez looks like a perfectly viable candidate for the first posthumous Cy Young Award.
  5. Also, the Marlins have an elimination number of 2. If the Mets win, that knocks them out.
  6. Jason Heyward has had a bad year ... for a defense-first shortstop. As a corner outfielder, he's been a nightmare. He's the chink in the armor of a really sharp team. And he's signed through 2023. Here's to that deal continuing to give.
  7. It's awkward. Like the Braves in 2001, or the Orioles in 1979, fate suggests the role they are supposed to play is gracious losers on the road, where all sympathy is with the home team. But they need this game.
  8. Blevvy is the perfect choice.
  9. I think there's some psychological value to completing the shutout. So you don't want to waste your best pitchers, but you don't want to just run out your worst, I think. I suspect that's why Terry gave the eighth to Salas. A compromise pick.
  10. Wow, an NFL score.
  11. COULD HAVE USED TWO OR THREE OF THESE RUNS YESTERDAY, GUYS!!!

  13. Four hit batsmen. What a staff.
  14. Oh, shmee. "Piano Man."
  15. Just lowered his Mets ERA to 2.03. He's totally positioned to make the cut for any post-season roster.
  16. Let's empty the bench on the plus side of things this time.
  17. God, I hope this bullpen doesn't figure things out before the Mets face them again next week. BOOM! Grand slam!
  18. Life is good when you're José Reyes and you come to the plate with the bags juiced three times in a row, even though you bat leadoff.
  19. I have a lot of opinions about Terry, but I pretty much question every decision Pete Mackanin makes.
  20. I'm almost tempted to pinch-hit there. Another option is a one-armed swing.
  21. Curtis Granderson sucks his way to 30 homers. God bless that man.
  22. Maybe, just maybe, Bruce is finding it.
  23. Good inning by Gselly, 'cept when it wasn't.
