Why do they seemingly only wear the silver insignia for Harvey starts?

Familia - Arterial Clot, surgery possible
Edgy MD replied to Centerfield's topic in New York Mets Talk
Baldo just got called up to AAA after 16.2 scoreless innings (and 6 saves) in Bingo. I agree. Sweating over bullpenners is wasted energy. Lots of guys to pick up the slack. -

Gosh. Moving that fast, (I suspect) they must have suspected he was in some danger. Hey, man, smart move keeping Jenrry Mejia in house. -
Swapping Familia for Dudu and we finally get back to something approaching sensible with a seven-man bullpen and a five-man bench. Look for T.J. or Rivera (or maybe even Reyes) to see some time in the outfield someday soon. Their director of scouting is Tim McIlvaine, son of former Mets GM Joe McIlvaine. That's about as Metly a connection as I've got. Calling games on the radio is Bob Uecker, who belongs to the world.

Are we on the cusp of something? Is TOS surgery about to become as commonplace for pitchers as TJ surgery? -
Well, one thing that's surely in the scouting report is high school pitchers are high-risk players. Especially Ward Melville High School pitchers.

No word yet on any Familia-related transactions. I'm 90% certain that he'll be disabled and Smoker back in uniform by game time, but what do I know? More excitingly, we've got a new infielder for Binghamton. He's a nine-plus-year minor-league vet with Detroit, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Detroit again. He shares his name with a famed Uruguayan bassoonist. “Mark this name down: Gustavo Nunez,” Dave Dombrowski said to a group of Detroit Fans at TigerFest on January 23, 2010. “He has a chance to be a special player." Yes, Gustavo had some prospect juice once upon a time, but now he's little more than an object lesson for Dilson Herrera. (He also serves as a warning for over-optimistic GMs and an excuse for the Mets not to have a winter fanfest.) Even at the time Dombrowski made that claim, Gusty had been suspended for "conduct detrimental to the organization." That's curious. Not detrimental to the team. But to the organization. Gustavo is from San Pedro de Macoris, so he was, you know, born for this. He's reached as high as AAA twice, and been to a big league camp or two, but I'm going to guess "special player" is more or less off the table, and the Mets will settle for "player." Nice braces, man. He failed as a Twinkie Folks thought he'd be stinky And the Mets, they would call up Las Vegas that night Saying "Send a new pitcher! Dutch! Greek! Lubavitcher!" But Tommy was decent Oh, how could they know?! Oh, how could they know?! They'd all seen him throw! As Tom slayed the Giants, they cried, "How could we know?"

There's every chance he plays first or third if he's in the house. Duda is expected back this series, but I'm just guessing that he'll be in there for Game One.

I guess that can happen. Sleep funny. Wake up funny. Anyhow, I'm guessing the Smoker we drink will be the player we get. And at least he has a full day to report to the team and sleep. Go Mets. -

Is this the sort of thing that can be attributable to being a professional pitcher? Or is it just a thing? -
Lots of returns possible. Harvey is announced. Cabrera is likely. Duda is possible. d'Arnaud ... I wouldn't bet on it. Likely lineup: [*:2p5xkua2]Conforto, lf[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Cabrera, ss[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Bruce, rf[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Walker, 2b[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Duda, 1b[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Granderson, cf[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Reyes, 3b[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Rivera, c[/*:m:2p5xkua2] [*:2p5xkua2]Harvey, sp[/*:m:2p5xkua2][/list:o:2p5xkua2] Matt Garza opposes. He's been pitching well, but he's mostly a mediocre pitcher. Possible lineup shakeups, besides the returnees, might include returning Reyes to the leadoff spot and dropping Conforto to second. Just a thought. I bet that's what they're going to do when (if) Céspedes returns, giving them a righty in the three-hole to spit up Conforto and Bruce.

Also anti-trust (and, by extension, un-American) is the MLB teams' ability to veto the establishment of a minor league franchise within X miles of your park. The Mets having used that veto to keep the Yankees from putting a minor league franchise in Newark for even a single season while they fixed up their Scranton park, it is doubtless the Yankees would do the same if the Mets (or anybody) tried to establish an affiliation with a permanent team on Long Island.
-
Nothing was wrong with Tidewater. But minor league teams in recent decades have pursued affiliation with increasingly closer MLB parents, in order to not only take advantage of day-tripping fans of the MLB club, but to take advantage of the parent club's marketing inroads throughout the region. Thus Buffalo liked the Mets as a partner, but lurved the Blue Jays, just as the Tides had long desired the Orioles. Given half a chance, they might jump to the Nats someday. The Orioles have it great, by the way, being neither a northern nor a southern city, they seemingly have all their affiliates within a half day's drive. They have the northernmost teams in southern circuits, the southernmost teams in northern circuits, the easternmost teams in midwest circuits, etc. Affiliation is anti-trust. It serves MLB, but it's bad for baseball. The Norfolk-Virginia Beach region is teaming with population, but have zero "big league" teams. They should be battling for their own city's glory, not for the Mets or the Orioles. I'm sure the Mets would like Rochester or (even better) Syracuse, but both the big league club and the affiliate have to be available when the music stops.

It's also Terry who has deployed Wilmer at third and T.J. at first, while the opposite alignment is arguably better. It's Terry who went down with Plawecki batting with the tying run on second, while René Rivera was hitting 242 points better on the season (and, to put small sample sizes aside, 12 points over the course of their careers).
