Conforto looking like a stooge against this guy.

"Bring on the dancing bears." — K. Hernandez

You can't send guys on the wet grass. Just can't.

Challenge.

Shoulda bunted, Conforto.

Lamet's done. And tell him to give Robles back his haircut before he leaves the park.

Boo eat line drive! HA! Puny ball!

Misjudged and lost fly balls should go down as errors rather than hits.

d'Arnaud's hair comes out the ventilator holes in his batting helmet and looks like little devil horns.

The once unthinkable — a Mets homer top ten without Ed Kranepool — becomes a little more thinkable. 1) Darryl Strawberry: 252 2) David Wright: 242 3) Mike Piazza: 220 4) Howard Johnson: 192 5) Dave Kingman: 154 6) Carlos Beltran: 149 7) Todd Hundley: 124 8) Kevin McReynolds: 122 9) Edgardo Alfonzo: 120 10) Ed Kranepool: 118 11) Lucas Duda: 113

El Met homers off of Lamet.

Shutout inning, bitches. I think his deal is he's not cahnfident using the top half of the strike zone. That's half a pitcher.

I wonder what Montero's favorite dinosaur is?

That's no way to earn your Schaefer, man.

I guess so. My mind thought Conlon and my fingers typed Nimmo.

It may be just in time. Rivera is starting to hit like Rivera again.

That was the front end of a yewj double-header sweep. A seven-inning, complete-game, 3-hit, 1-0 shutout by Nimmo in the first, and a rain-shortened, six-inning, complete game, 2-hit, 5-0 (or 4-0, if you disallow the run in the top of the inning in which the bottom of the inning wasn't played) shoutout by Donovan hand in Game Two.

And Nimmo. He's getting all the sucking out of his system in Vegas.

I figured that the 24-man was dead by 1983, but that's a good example. It certainly helps when the catchers play other positions.

As a Mets completionist, sure. Otherwise, not so much. The timeline is skewed, jumping from the past to the present randomly, and big chapters in the knuckleball's history get overlooked and played down. They don't talk to executives about why knucklers aren't taken seriously. How only bad teams give the Phil Niekros of the world a chance. They don't mention that watershed R.A. Dickey start in 2006 where he gave up six homers and got banished to the minors for two years. They don't mention Joe Niekro's suspension for the emory board. They talk to the catchers, but they don't go into how Mirabelli and Thole and others owe their careers to their ability to catch the knuckler. It's sort of slow with synthy new age music too. What I really missed is the whole damn adventurousness of it all. Charlie Hough's all star appearance where the ball was dancing all over the place and he had a catcher who'd never caught the knuckler. That was great drama! Absent from this narrative. The 2004 game five against the Yankees, Wakefield was heroic, but they never mention the real drama was Francona's dangerous decision to stick with Varitek behind the plate, hoping he could win the game with one swing, but leaving him to chase balls to the backstop while baserunners with potential season-ending runs were dancing around the bases. But Aaron Boone's homer off of him in 2003? They couldn't get enough of that shit. Most of the best Dickey stuff is told better in Dickey's autobiography. Best part is the round table of Dickey, Wakefield, Hough, and Niekro, but even that is achingly brief. Was Tom Candiotti busy or they only wanted a foursome so they could play golf? And Bouton only appears briefly once or twice. One of the best storytellers in baseball history and he threw the knuckleball, but he was woefully underutilized.

Blurgh. Granderson, man.

Smokes. Hand has them fooled with a single pitch.
