The Mets are swapping Team Italy outfielders for seemingly the third or fourth time in their careers. Fate doesn't want them to play together! Not on the Mets anyhow! Anywhich, get well, Nimmo. And just yesterday, just as I was demanding Nimmo pinch hit, I was also putting up a post about players whose careers were interrupted by TB. You joke about bubonic plague, but it's a real issue in the west among prairie dog populations. I don't know if that's somehow transmittable to humans, but prairie dogs do live in places like Wyoming. What first popped into my mind was Ike Davis and his valley fever, but it might not be something viral like that. A partially collapsed lung can also happen from blunt trauma — running into a wall or getting hit by a pitch or something.

We really don't even know if the Mets kicked the tires an Colón, let alone made something akin to an offer. Gun to my head, I would guess they didn't.

Trade Deadline Debbie Downer hails from the Boogie Down Bronx. Who knew?

I don't worry about these things. They happen very fast. No need to decide now whether to deal out. No need to fret over whether there's a market. Some team gave up actual live arms for Kelly Johnson ... twice! Some team couldn't wait to jump at Eric O'Flaherty. Traded a sexy young arm for him. Wacky, right? That same crazy team found a buyer for Rey Sanchez in 2003, and Rey Ordóñez in the 2002 offseason. Yeah, for guys who would never make it, but teams have needs and deals emerge. Or maybe they don't. Clearly, Alderson is a guy who likes to play the market until a deal is worth his while, and would rather take his chips and go home than get a reputation as a sap. That's alright too. But Walker is pricey, you say? So was Beltran back in 2011. He's gimpy, too? Beltran again. The Mets ate some salary and made a deal. We'll see what haps.

A loss today to Staten Island drops the Cylcotrons to a pastry 4-13, while the Junior Yankees sore to 14-2. Lean times in the Mets minors these days. Kicking ass in the DSL, though.

Always happy to play the not-so-straight straight man.

Baseball is like this now. Close games turn into blowouts real fast, because it's suddenly a much steeper downward curve going from pitchers who can get outs with any consistency in this environment to pitchers who can't.

But the point remains. They were going to have to play at some point, but the theory goes that they wanted to play at a point where they were no interruptions that threatened an artificially early exit. And if that's true, that's butt.

Refreshing.

Nimmo should be out there for defense. Nimmo, Nimmo, NIMMO!

Rivera is someday going to pull a Beltre and knock one out off of one knee. Let's go, Reedy.

Yeah, but lots o' bullets certainly fired. And one bullet landed, anyways.

d'Kong76 wrote: Ces flashin' the radar! I don't know. Good break, but he handled that ball like a man whose had a baby foisted on him that he's just been told was his. Scared me, anyhow.

0-2 and right over the plate.

Red Schoendienst, Keith Hernandez' first manager, reportedly visited the Mets booth tonight. I was looking up Rico Carty the other day. Rico has perennially joined Richie Allen and Gil Hodges as among the best players not in the Hall of Fame. One of the reasons he isn't in was missing two full seasons in his absolute prime. He missed one season after smashing up his knee in winter ball (should've paid your players better, MLB) and another earlier after contracting tuberculosis. It turned out that helping him get through his convalescence was a heartfelt letter of encouragement from Red Schoendienst whose own career was shortened by TB. Red missed all but five games of a season, and had to undergo a partial pneumonectomy. Doctors said he'd never play again, but he returned to be a player-coach, and a devastating hitter off the bench. Took him a lot of years and veterans' committee ballots to make the Hall of Fame too. Red Schoendienst, TB survivor, missing a chunk of a lung since 1959, but still alive — and ACTIVE — at 94.

This should be Nimmo up there 10 times out of 10.

It seemed like Fowler quit on that drive by Rivera 20 seconds before it landed.

I don't know if Bruce is safe or out, but his foot was a foot past the bag before making actual contact.

Making friends with the double play.

d'Kong76 wrote: Answer to the shift in a nutshell, just keep doing it until it stops... Yup, yup, and yup. Why the Mets aren't doing it wit' regularity is a question that troubles, and provokes me, and uneases my sleep late in the night.

Who needs a homerun derby?

2017 stinks.

Too much plate, man.

Two-run lead. Good work guys.
