Strange how parts of the film seemed to be aimed dead at me, with Peter getting ready to his homecoming dance to "Save It for Later" and then arriving at the dance and DJ is cranking "Space-Age Love Song." It would sort of be the temporal equivalent of me arriving at my own homecoming and the DJ blasting "Vaya con Dios" by Les Paul & Mary Ford. We middle-aged white dudes are apparently still a target market.

Looks sad a lot.

It's Sunday, so expect Rivera behind the dish, Granderson subbing for Céspedes and his hip in the outfield, and Flores to be somewhere in the infield. Possibly Reynolds Wrap also. -
The DSL Mets 1 are tearing their league counterparts to bits, currently sitting but a half game out of first in the South Division of the Dominican Summer League at 25-11. That's a .694 record! You know who plays .694 ball? NBA teams play .694 ball, that's who. It doesn't tend to happen in baseball. Now, that could be illusory. They could be stacking the roster with older players. And it seems that, on average, they skew older than their division. But you know what? Almost every other team in the division is one of two teams their organization has in the league. The Twins, Rockies, Angels, Yankees, Cardinals, and Nationals have their only DSL entrant in that division, presumably concentrating all their talent in one place. Only the Phillies join the Mets in putting a split squad in that division. And the DSL Phillies Red team is barely keeping their heads above water at 14-21 / .400. So, the DSL Mets 1 are good. Real good. But maybe they're treating that squad as the varsity, stacking all the talent on their roster and leaving the DSL Mets 2 to take a beating. But you know what? No, my friends, no! The DSL Mets 2 are even better! They're currently sporting a 25-10 record and a .714 winning percentage and sitting four games atop the league's San Pedro division. DSL Mets rool! Let's meet some of the stars. I kinda liked that move. I mean, there's hope in an 8-4 game that there isn't in an 8-3 game. Let's get that out and get Lugo out of there with a positive day. And the bullpen is crazy rested. Man, the Roxxx are pouring lefties onto the Mets. -

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter's bedroom features a Mike Piazza-themed Mets pennant, a Mets cap on the on the shelf, and what looked like a Mets hanky. There was probably more stuff if you slow it down.

I feel like this series is the first time all year we've seen Céspedes with two legs underneath him. -
Not bad so far as the Mets have 32 of their 40 picks in the fold, including all of the top ten. Strange to see some of the mid-round guys get small bonuses while the late-round guys see six figures. Mac Lozer, though — there's a guy really living up to his name. Fire your agent, Mac! Classic quote from 40th rounder Ronnie Taylor, Jr. “I pretty much rely on my fastball. It gets up to around 94 mph, and my slider can hit up to 85 mph,” Taylor said. “I just throw it as hard as I can and hope they don’t hit it.” That's the sort of money quote you want to read from a 40th rounder. It's also gives us a context for a guy who has already had Tommy John surgery in high school.
