  1. I don't know how to assess trainers. I'm not going to defend Ray Ramirez, but I just don't know how to proceed. With regard to Barwis, though, that video you posted of him and his scratchy-voiced screaming at his clients as they RAGE-lift, with TERRIBLE leverage over the weights, was all I needed. Cashiered. My wife watched 10 seconds of that and was convinced he broke David Wright's back. I'm also curious about the relationship of Barwis and Dustin Clarke. Is Barwis more of the consultant, working with players in the offseason, but only corresponding with them during the season, while Clarke travels with the team and supervises the gym? Is Barwis Clarke's guy or is Clarke Barwis' guy or are they both independent hires with separate but equal authority? 2. Winning 11 in a row while the previously invincible team in front of you is losing nine of 10 is awesome. Thanks, terrible Sports Illustrated cover!

Not that I reject open batting stancing (it's working for Plawecki), but d'Arny keeps lengthening his swing. He's pretty small for a full-time catcher, and he may not be up to the daily grind, but for a guy getting 80% of the starts, a long swing is even more of a handicap. I think he's got good hand-eye coordination and he will be a good hitter someday, possibly as a Twin, but some coachy coach has to check his reversions to bad habits early. Watch Wright films. Watch old Carter films. Keep your hands closer to your body and the bat behind your ear.
  4. I figured an Ike-vs.-Lucas-type poll was due to pop up any day now, suggesting the pressure is rising for the Mets to choose between one of their two catchers, either as starter or backup to an incoming alternative. I don't know that such a decision needs to be made, but I do expect the two to split time for the rest of the season, and I wouldn't object if it was suddenly 60% toward Plawecki.
  5. It's a town that generally gets lots of nice summer weather too.
  6. I've done OK in the left field corner. Had a buncha 7-Liners there with me and they weren't complaining in their section. I admit I haven't tried the rightfield side. I guess it's important to amend "not a bad seat in the house" with the qualifier that I haven't literally sat in every seat.
  7. There's not a bad seat in the house in this ballpark. The tickets are reasonably priced and the crowds are friendly even to fans of the visiting team.
  8. Hansel Robles: I'm not tired, Terry. Terry Collins: Well, I'm tired of you.
  9. That's because Nimmo is the Guy.
  10. I like 10-0 more than 10-5. A LOT more.
  11. But gets the big DP grounder and avoids the big inning!
  12. Maybe stiffening up during that long inning.
  13. Terry Collins: We're up 8-0. Get the scrubs ready to come into the game. Dick Scott: Umm, Terry?
  14. Monte going to the Matt Harvey School of Bunting.
  15. The remaining senior Mets started the attack and now the novices are getting their game on.
  16. Cecchini, time for tagging school!
  17. Infielders getting pitching surgery. Curious! Josh Edgin also ending his season with arthroscopic surgery on his knee. He's off the roster and will be a minor league free agent at the end of the season, so that could well be the end of the Metly road for him. His demotion was surprising. He was Edgin, sure, but he's currently eleventh on the 2017 Mets in bWAR.
  18. Roy is a lineman for the county. Juggling job and family pressures, he gets called out late one night when the whole power grid is on the fritz. Lost in the dark, he has a strange interaction with a bright light, and thereafter begins driving his family bonkers with his visions of a big butte. An enormous butte. Could a massive government coverup conspiracy be underway? In limited release.
  19. Thus begins the post-Rosario era.
  20. They called up recent acquirees Jamie Callahan and Jacob Rhame in time for both of them to debut in game one of Saturday's double header. Supposedly Terry recently reported his shock that neither had ever (ever!) pitched on consecutive days in the minors, despite both being on the relief track for several years, and each coming out of different organizations. Expect a McGowan return soon enough. Las Vegas' season ends tomorrow, and they should have two open roster slots, should they want to add any non-roster players.
  21. Yeah, but ... Nimmo has a great eye, but doesn't seem to buy into protecting with two strikes.
  22. Is Rosario hurt now?
  23. Shoulda squeezed, Cabrera.

A case could be made that he's pretty damn unlucky if one believes in bad luck. Maybe he can wear one of those Starks/Oakley masks and pick up a bat relatively quickly. Maybe. I get the idea that the vibes of a foul ball off the handle hurt like hell vibrating up into a broken nose. I also get the idea that a week or two of R&R may be needed just to clear the head after a thing like that.
