The Mets need a couple of players named "Marwin."

Harvey uncorks a wild pitch and the Houston DJ booth is ready with a "Born to Be Wild" sound cue. A little bush, and Harvey gets Gonzalez on the next pitch. Way to get angry.

The sad thing about that Springer homer is that it wasn't that bad of a pitch. But Harvey has nothing on it.

Charlie Morton teaching Matt Harvey how to pitch.

One of the Americans in this was driving me crazy trying to think of where I'd seen him before. He was the villain in Ant-Man.

Expected to be activated for game two. Let the Norichika chicas rejoice!

I would hope so. It's always so embarrassing when you forget to activate your starting pitcher. Joke's on Harvey, though, as he's going to miss out on the Eastern League playoffs. But, when one rehab ends, another begins. I think one day, perhaps soon, we'll be able to apply modern ball-in-play technology to archival film and video and get a good idea how good our defensive performers of yesterday were or weren't.

The DSL Mets 2 rode six shutout innings from Willy Taveras and consistent table setting at the top of the order from center fielder Jhoander Saez and shortstop Shervyen Newton to a 6-1 victory over the DSL Dodgers 1. Unfortunately, the Dojers evened the series today with a tense 1-0 victory, wasting 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball of the pen provided by Boris Sanchez. Left fielder Yoel Romero garnered two of the four Met hits, while DH Jorge Martinez walked three times.

Yeah, we're on it at Mets Roster Central. We were just waiting on number confirmations. Callahan gets 43, which is scientifically established as the second-least-sexy two-digit number in captivity. Nice to be rescued from the sinking ship that is the 2017 51s, but they climb right on board the S.S. 2017 Mets which is a swamped ship itself. Some weird context in that whole shmenke is the brawl with the Yankees. The afterparty in the Tigers dugout featured Verlander nearly coming to blows with Victor Martinez. Indeed, he had to be restrained by his own teammates as Martinez seemingly gave him a whatever and walked away. Now, the consensus seems to be that Verlander was mad that Martinez seemed more about being chummy with the Yankees than about watching his teammates' backs. Seeing that Martinez is 38, has far less equity than Verlander, and is being derided as non-teamy, you'd figure he's the guy who gets sent packing. Verlander must have waived his 5-and-dime rights, though. He could have rejected this deal. The dude is a good bet for the Hall of Fame.

The thing is, I miss bunting. I miss hitting-and-running. I used to love radical defensive configurations, but when I realized that most of the league (and most all of the Mets) weren't going to counter them with situational hitting and bunting, I grew to hate them. Can't remember the last hit and run I saw, let alone the last squeeze. This gentleman's agreement crap has got to stop.

G-Fafif wrote: The September transaction in which a contender picks up a veteran even though he won't be eligible for postseason doesn't seem to happen anymore, or at least happen much. The Mets grabbed Ron Herbel, Dean Chance, John Candelaria and Dan Schatzeder in Septembers that didn't lead to Met Octobers. The second coming of Bob L. Miller happened in September 1973. The Cardinals lunged for Doug DeCinces in the final week of his career in case they needed an extra bat to ward off the surging Mets (who failed to surge). Dave Kingman disgraced himself by donning MFY pinstripes in such a matter in a sad September. These were all long-ago moves. Can't remember it happening in a recent September. In 1993, the Yankees were playing badly, short on starting pitchers, but somehow hadn't yet been knocked out of the playoff picture with two weeks to go, and so they sent the Mets Kenny Greer for two starts worth of Frank Tanana. Thinking back now, I actually saw one of those starts. Might have been my last time at Yankee Stadium II. Probably next to last.

I support this film. It's really two films. The first half is their journey across their country, going in multiple directions upon learning that neigboring countries are closing the borders for them, even as they are being hunted by soldiers in each direction. The reasons for the war aren't really hinted at. It was really a land-grab, with the dominating factions of the north seeking to wipe out populations in the south and on the peripheries where there were and are vast oil reserves, but it also had an ethno-religious component. The audience is as in the dark as the children as to why this hell is raining down on them. One day, their out minding the cattle, and planes and soldiers swoop in and virtually wipe out their village. The oldest boy Theo returns to the village and returns wit his surviving sister Abital. And they set out on their journey with Mamere, Paul, Daniel, and Gabriel and others. Without giving too much away, after many misadventures, under the bold but stumbling leadership of Theo, who has inherited the mantle of chief among his village's surviving children, several in the party finally arrive on their very last legs at a refugee camp, where they are surprised to encounter people who have no color in their skin. The second half jumps us ahead 13 years. Thirteen long years the children have been in the refugee camp, having grown up but stayed together as a family of circumstance, before finally getting notice that they will be granted asylum in the United States in the mysterious exotic village of Kansas City, where they seek jobs, adjust, hang out with Reese Witherspoon, and fight to keep their makeshift family together. No small amount of death, and that's tough to witness, but no small amount of human and social significance and triumph and Mark Twain references to go with also.

I put Verlander in a box with Harvey in the category of big, obnoxious righthanders who I think are from Texas but actually aren't. Check your stereotypes, Edgy!

Today's game made me feel like un-building.

No buzz on Shohei Otani, Jim?

This game is happening guys. Mets down 3-2, but we have a Taijeron hit in captivity.

This is the lineup Terry is backing his ace with. Robert Stephenson knows how to picnic.

I don't think that's the sort of thing that's imprinted on the guy's DNA. Most of his relief work came earlier in the season as guys ahead of him on the depth chart were getting the starts. As it is, most of his earlier work has been bad enough to suggest limiting and targeting his innings to reduce his exposure until he demonstrated a capacity (or the need was such) to increase his role. Manager Collins has shown more faith in him than most.

I tend to go for evolution over revolution, but the "once healthy" phrase becomes more tenuous every day. Wright looks likely to never be healthy again, Harvey has been mostly broken three of the last four years and may never again be whole, Syndergaard and Familia need to show something before the end of the season to give anybody any confidence, and in the meantime, Bruce and Granderson and Walker and Rivera and Duda have been dealt off. There are in-house options at most of these spots, and while I'm confident the team will enter 2018 with an attitude toward contention, something new is likely to appear over the near horizon.

And if a reliever blew the game we'd be complaining about Terry managing with stats in mind (I would anyway). I wouldn't. I would have pulled Harvey (in the ninth inning of his World Series start) after one baserunner too. Allow the reliever the luxury of coming in with the game in his own hands, not with the tying run already on base, or in scoring position.
