Edgy MD

Throw seven and get a bunt down, Harvey!

Now Laggy is the tying run on double deck with two away. Would you pinch-hit Nimmo if that situation comes around?

d'Arnaud on double deck is the tying run. Nimmo, Plawecki, Cecchini, and Nido remain on the bench.

WHY SWING, AOKI!!

Keep throwing it crazy, Strop. Don't want to make Wilson look bad.

Minus a couple of good defensive grabs and benevolent umpire calls and yeah, 11 or 12 sounds about right.

Forgot this guy. Best in his class. DirectionCOMINGTransaction=#FFFFFF]Acquired From Milwaukee & Assigned To St. LuciePosition Group=#FF8000]Relief Pitcher[fimg=90]http://www.milb.com/images/621098/generic/180x270/621098.jpg[/fimg]NameEric Hanhold #??DoB11/1/93B/TR/R

Indians 21-5 with Jay Bruce in the lineup.

Did Ron Darling just crack up as they went to the break?

20 in a row is something else. I think your team winning eight in a row is the point at which you feel like you're on drugs. Twenty in a row must be like ecstasy on the moon.

Man, we can still play that homer game guys. Just 'cause the suits traded all the sluggerinos ... don't let the Cubs have all the phone. Whoop, there it is, indeed.

That homer was something I won't miss.

Two out, two on, and 2-2 to Bryant. Yes, at such times, I miss Bob Murphy, crying "DEU-ces wild!"

He's too nitpicky at the plate, too. Keeps letting strikes go by with men on base.

Alas, not a lot of fans there to witness.

At Mets Roster Central, we've been operating with the first.

You'd figure either Kevin Kierst still had Nido's 70 in his trunk, or his promotion would be rewarded with a number in the thirties. Trading in one spring training number for another seems odd. In other words, the pennant is all but assured. $$$

"The losses kept coming and coming, piling up like rotting garbage in a dumpster until they wound up here, in the the throes of a full-blown debacle that still feels almost impossible to believe." — The Wall Street Journal

Seven. Gerson Bautista, Jamie Callahan, Eric Hanhold, Stephen Nogosek, Jacob Rhame, Ryder Ryan, and Drew Smith. I'm all for it, and I can't even say why. Maybe it's because such assets are fungible. Maybe because they are re-flippable. Maybe they kick ass on a cost-benefit analysis. Maybe they pay off big as a quality-out-of-quantity move. Maybe the Mets are just spooked that their righthanded relievers all blew up in their faces the first half of the season. Probably I'm just intrigued by the idea that a pattern suggests a strategy and a strategy suggests cunning, and I'm totally being duped and it's all going to pay off badly, but it's a new type of drama, and I'm tuning in.

Not particularly good news if your name is Xorge Carrillo. Now, if you have a cool name like Xorge, that may be all the good news you need. But if you are the Xorge Carrillo, you are headed toward the professional limbo of minor league free agency this offseason, and even if the Mets removed you from the roster come October, a few swings a big league pitchers might have been just the thing your résumé needed.

Win it for Brucie!

Ex-Mets Cubbing for the Cubs Backup catcher René Rivera was claimed off waivers from the Mets a few weeks ago. He is currently one of five (!!) catchers on the Cubs' active roster. Former Mets backup catcher Henry Blanco is the Cubs' quality control coach. This will come as little surprise to those of you who remember how under control the Mets' quality was back in 2010. Staying with the 2010 theme, one of that year's backup outfielders, Jesús Feliciano, manages the Cubs Class A Eugene Emeralds. Or at least he was as of last week. And that's more or less it!

The thing is, the record was Ty Cobb's when Lou Brock broke it, so they must've found some Slidin' Billy Hamilton data that wasn't part of the official record and subsequently added it. The guy died in 1940 as the record-holder and didn't even know it.
