  1. Washington didn't have a minor league team when the Expos moved there. I think sometimes a city that thinks of itself as big-league won't pursue a minor league team, and would rather be team-less than condescend to host some other city's affiliate.
  2. You're Sandy and you're feeling dandy. You've called in all your friends and gotten yourself a list of all experienced, available MLB managers, and then you ran those names by the Crane Pool, and dammit, but that diminishing group of hardasses has reluctantly helped you narrow the universe down to 12 names. But you've got to move fast, as some of them aren't exactly in their flower. You divide the list into two groups of six, and look to cross four names off of each. Pick TWO of these guys to call in for an interview. 3. MLB.com headline: TODDFATHER GETS YANKS GOING IN G3. "Toddfather"?
  4. Given the parameter of adding Montreal and Portland, this is the best I can do: Maple Tree Division Baltimore Boston Montreal New York (A) New York (N) Philadelphia Pittsburgh Toronto=#FF0000]Bible Belt Division Atlanta Cincinnati Houston Kansas City Miami Tampa Bay Texas Washington=#00BF00]Dairyland Division Chicago (A) Chicago (N) Cleveland Denver Detroit Milwaukee Minnesota St. Louis=#FF8000]Calistoga Division Anaheim Arizona Los Angeles Oakland Portland San Diego San Francisco Seattle It'd be a lot easier if Denver would move to Norfolk or something.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Mike Puma reporting in the Post that the Mets will interview Manny Acta this week, and... that Brad Ausmus has declined an interview request from the Mets. I don't care if the Mets are somehow seen as a stinky turd of a résumé stain, wtf can afford to turn down MLB manager job interviews?
  6. Wow, Red Schoendienst wins the tiebreaker! We're getting some old soldiers into the Round of 12!
  7. I find it interesting that it's an operating assumption that Portland and Montreal have teams on the way.
  8. We should have a vote-off on who the best Schaefer spokesperson was. I dig how b/w characters got b/w colorpath backgrounds.
  9. I'm just kind of surprised Harvey made the list at all. Jacob Rhame out-WARred him in 2017, for Pete Flynn's sake. Neil Ramirez out-WARred him!
  10. Yeah, but who will break that five-way tie for third?!
  11. This is the one group that could use a few votes.
  12. That PotM timeline (BRUCE-CONFORTO-DEGROM-DEGROM-CESPEDES-REYES) is a pretty good summary of the season. The best hitters the first two months were guys (Bruce and Conforto) who would be memories by the end of the season. The middle of the season was four days of futility, waiting for the day our number-one starter (deGrom) might give a glimpse of what a winning team looks like. Céspedes took until August to get untracked, before also disappearing for the rest of the year, and the last month was lineups stocked with fill-in players, best embodied by Reyes, playing wherever on the field, batting wherever in the lineup, playing out the string, trying to tack on to their year-end stats. An array of what went right can sometimes be a map of what went wrong.
  13. My wife and I are both big fans of Blade Runner. One of those bonding things when we first met. She suggested that we go see this and I couldn't muster any enthusiasm at all. The dystopia we are living with is more than enough to wrestle with. #ImOldandWeary
  14. His hair hasn't turned gray yet. Also, he's got a nice, big Art Howe mandible.
  15. Also nice to see Jigantic Judge outpaced by Abbreviated Altuve.
  16. That bit o' luck just moved his Hall of Fame token about 20 spaces forward.
  17. You say "media feud business," and I hear "UNCAP REAL FLAVOR!"
  18. The Committee on Combatting the Length of Games, assuming there is one, should take the time to view those old games. I tend to think that the powers that be have mixed emotions. On one hand, longer games mean less concentrated action and lower fan retention from year to year. On the other hand, longer games mean more beer sold in the ballpark, and more beer ads run during commercials.
  19. I'm excited about this Beltran guy. If he has a good post-season for Houston, maybe the Mets can sign him in the offseason.
  20. Dallas, if I was your manager, I'd still be riding you.
  21. Vote! It's winding down, I promise!
  22. Hey, you're Sandy F. Alderson. The Nats are out and you're looking forward to rooting for some hot playoff action. The Cubs are dead to you, because they didn't carry René Rivera on their roster. But the Dodgers have Curtis Granderson and Justin Turner, the Astros have Collin and Buzzy McHugh and Carlos Beltran, and the Yankees, well, you can root for massive strikeout totals from Aaron Judge. But then you remember, 10 more experience managerial candidates left. You're down to 40, Sandy. Focus your Dartmouth-educated, Marine-honed mind. And pick THREE of these experienced MLB manager dudes. Cholula Hot Sauce is the delicious result of a generations-old recipe and a rich Mexican heritage. By using the ripest local ingredients and a creative blend of authentic spices, Cholula quickly became known as “el sabor perfecto”, the perfect flavor. That original recipe has gone unchanged over the years and now expands to four additional varieties, each featuring a memorable taste experience that holds true to the brand philosophy of enhancing while never overpowering. Cholula Hot Sauce celebrates the best taste experience. You can't explain it. You've tried. You just sometimes want a snack that's going to burn the ass right out of you. Well, for those times, nothing goes down like Cholula. At the ballpark or at home. In Sag Harbor or Suarez, it's Cholula! [fimg=650]http://www.cholula.com/images/about-aspot-hero.png[/fimg]
