  1. Yeah, the Mets got a gaggle of strong-armed relievers in their selloff last year. But they're not all big-league ready. That's actually probably good. You want your talent, such as it is, spread over the system, rather than crowding into the same class. So you've got Rhame. You've seen Callahan. Who's next? Well, that's probably me. I'm Drew Smith and I'm starting at AA, possibly AAA. I don't know, but I'm coming fast, having played at three levels last season and put up ERAs under 2.00 in all three. I was with five teams and held opponents to a .188 average across all of them. I got a high-octane fastball and a hard curve. That's a guy you want, and that's why the Lucas Duda-trading Mets reached out and got me. But why was I traded twice in one season? Who does that with a minor league guy? What's wrong with me? I wonder. Maybe you know. 2. Some careers quietly ended as minor league camp wrapped up. Griset had pitched well for Bingo in 2017, but looked to return there this season. Maria was a catcher/firstbaseman who wasn't sticking at catcher and wasn't hitting enough for first. Siena was the secondbaseman who followed L.J. Mazzilli at UConn (he should have gone to Siena), and then followed him up the Mets system ladder, before stalling out in full-season A-ball last year. Berrios was an athletic but punchless outfielder who got leapfrogged by a lot of players last year despite the Mets lack of outfield diamonds in the high minors. He briefly reached AAA but really never played well enough to legitimately graduate from the South Atlantic League. I'll be your patron saint of heartbreak, guys. 3. Note that down by multiple runs in the ninth, Reyes and Rosario both went up there first-pitch swinging. You've got to take in those situations. Teams that ignore that basic fundamental principle deserve to lose.
  4. Your team has suffered a buttload of injuries. Maybe the problem is just the way the chips fall, and maybe it's somewhere in the organization. At any rate, your fans have decided your trainer is to blame. You resist that. You're committed to the system, the regime. The results are unpleasant, but how is that necessarily his fault? But that line is only sustainable for so long. Sandy's no dope. So what does he do? He fires the trainer, and replaces him with ME, the assistant trainer. The bugbear is slain, but the system remains in place. Bold? Cowardly? A third way? I dunno. But one way or another, the chips are gonna fall. Which way will they spill for me? I'm Brian Chicklo, Mets [crossout:i0uis7iq]assistant[/crossout:i0uis7iq] trainer. 5. I wish we went back to Nimmo today. He's the key! Don't marginalize the Nimm!

  7. The old one-game sample isn't enough to change your plans. I mean, Nimmo took pretty well too.
  8. Maybe that was just one layer of the CMYK film and the other layers got lost on the way to the printer.
  9. Short honeymoon for Gabe Kapler, as the Phils get destroyed 15-2, while criticism erupts after the new manager calls on a pitcher who hadn't warmed up. Reserve centerfielder Pedro Florimón pitched the ninth for the Phils in that game, giving up a two-run homer to Lane Adams.
  10. When do we get to see the positive of the 2003 cover?
  11. I'm guessing Flores plays first and Reyes or Evans cracks the lineup also.
  12. As seen on Yahoo sports: The Elias Sports Bureau said Cabrera was the first player since 1915 to bat cleanup on opening day and then hit leadoff the next game. Did the announcers mention this during the game? Anyhow, lousy reporting. Who was that player in 1915? Inquiring minds want to know. And no, I don't remember the game, Later I looked it up. It was Joe Schultz, who went 2-4 batting cleanup for the Brooklyn Robins on opening day against the New York Giants, before taking the collar out of the leadoff spot in game two. Joe's son would go on to fame as the foul-mouthed manager of the Seattle Pilots.
  13. Still at it. [youtube:1ehrcl10]9VGGp09Z3u4[/youtube:1ehrcl10]
  14. My Grande Orange with a Black Band didn't quite work out.
  15. Used them in game one because he wanted to get them the work. Used them in game two because the situation (to his thinking) called for it. He had an opportunity to go to Blevvy with a pair of runners on and a lefty up, but he surmised (probably correctly) that Matheny would pinch-hit with a righthanded batter, and so saved Blev for the possible appearance of Carpenter up in a game situation later in the game. It would have been a good time for our non-existent second lefty, but Swarzak did a good job getting out of it before getting tagged the next inning. It was the theme of the afternoon: All three relievers came in mid-inning, sat down, and returned to pitch the next inning.
  16. Well, I guess Ramos is our closer tomorrow.
  17. Man, Fammy. You're doing it to yourself.
  18. Zvon wrote: Edgy MD wrote: "He Kelly Leaked him!" — Gary Cohen lol. What an odd thing to do. But yesterday I noticed Ozuna was throwing kinda funny. Forced, or something. His arm didn't look right No it didn't. Was that the splitter Familia just deployed there?

  20. Pinch-running Reyes might be a good move here.
  21. A hunnert pitches and Callaway switches.
  22. And Frazier makes a throwing error the next inning.
  23. Get Frazier out the next half inning. Put in Reyes and get some ice on his hand.
  24. Terrific job by Céspedes. Great breaking ball, but he somehow stayed back and hit it out almost all with his wrists.
