It looks like she's doing her Boromir impersonation.

This is the home opener for the Nats, who are also sporting a rookie manager and a pitcher-batting-eighth lineup. That's great work. Thanks!

dj pretty much sums up what I was saying far more eloquently.

Well, then you got me. 1964 is my vote. It still would have been a lot more successfully rendered if not for Mullin being forced to work around that monochrome-tinted b/w photo circle that hardly honors Shea in her debut as much as a color photo (which I gather would have been a cost-averse proposition) or Mullin including the stadium in his artwork. If that doormat was at the gate of a Mullin-illustrated Shea, instead of at the threshold of a circular window into space, how much sweeter would that have been?

Deadspin going with a story called, "What Did Gabe Kapler Fuck Up This Time?" which hopefully will need a lot of updates throughout the season.

I'm going to chew on this a mite bit. That may be the weakest of the Mullin covers, but the perspective seems off on the 2016 cover, which is a little bit visually challenging. Also, they're in their full kit except for spikes, which they apparently can't wear because they aren't on the field, but in a studio. So they're wearing ratty running shoes.

As far as we know. Because there is sadly nothing novel about re-deploying a guy before he's quite ready. But go, Conforto! And Smith! Opening Day starters for the Mets minor league teams: Las Vegas: Wheeler? No, sir. Then Flexie? Unh-uh. On the mound for the 51s for opening day is Corey Oswalt, your 16-ish-ranked Mets prospect. Binghamton: They got some starters. Marcos Molina, Andrew Church ... and so Luis Rojas and Frank Viola are going to hand the ball to Drew Gagnon. Gagnon, a former Brewers prospect, was brought in on a minor league deal this offseason, and has been alternating between starting and relieving in recent years. St. Lucie: Here, we're actually with the program, as big shot prospect Justin Dunn is getting the call. Unfortunately, he's a big shot coming off of a pretty lost year, filled with injuries and inconsistency. What little success he did have last season came in a handful of relief appearances, so he's probably pitching for his starting life at this point. Columbia: 2016 first-rounder Anthony Kay is the obvious choice here, so Pedro Lopez is going with Tony Dibrell. Dibrell, last season's fourth rounder, mostly stunk last season while pitching out of the bullpen, but he was much better over the last several weeks. I'm guessing they are writing off last season to the fatigue of turning pro and continuing to pitch after finishing his college season, so this year he's a starter. Not like a few years ago when opening day meant Syndegaard and Matz and stuff, but we got those guys in the big league rotation now. Go Mets!

Hi, everybody. I don't want to be causing a distraction. Just living the dream like a lot of these younger guys I'm working out with. But gosh darn it, everybody wants to talk to me. For now, I'm a .225-hitting left-fielder, with a little bit of athletic ability, a little bit of bullpoop, and a can-do attitude. That's gotten me through my first pro season, but AA is a taller order. Improve or die. Because if I don't succeed at least a little more at this than I did at football, my agent says the next step is politics. And you thought you were sick of me now. So me. 2018. What's it gonna be? Just that Mike Poo had something to say.

The willow turns his back on inclement weather. If he can do it, we can do it.

Your Bingo guys have set a roster too. And it ain't all about what'shisname. A couple of notes. They're reportedly carrying 27 guys. Don't know how they get away with that stuff. Even thought they're carrying 14(!!) pitchers, they only have four obvious starters. I'm listing swingman Drew Gagnon as the fifth guy, but I don't ken their plans. Upper minors infielders. Kevin Kaczmarski and Jayce Boyd don't yet have assignments. I think Kaczmarski is hurt, though he hasn't been DL'd yet. I think Boyd is pissed. In Nido and Mazeika, the team has two gen-u-ine catchign prospects on one roster, which makes Nido's return to Bingo even more surprising. Look for Mazeika to get a lot of time at DH as well as backing up Tomás. Urena is listed as an infielder, but he was working out this spring primarily as an outfielder. I imagine he'll see time at all four outfield spots. You never know with relievers, but the bullpen should be impressive. Baustia, Hanhold, and Smith represent a big chunk of the talent brought in at the trade deadline last season. Hell YEAH we have a photo of the strength and conditioning coach. Even if Yuchie inexplicably has his hand on the rim of a hot pot. It's interesting that the 1981 Mets were pretty bad, but familiar enough and marketable enough and comfortable enough in their own skin to include this many (presumably positive and appealing) subjects. An image of Doug Flynn and a reference to Bob Gibson? Sure! In another year, a team coming off a 71-win season might be all, "Fuck it, here's a detail from our uniform."

I'm going for the Gallo too, although Mazzilli, Flynn, and Allen look like largely indistinguishable brown-haired young men. In the other one, the fingers reaching to tickle Fonzie under his arm kind of creep me out.

Wow, good job on the defensive positioning.

What a grind.

Late and close and no Lageres in the outfield.

Man, Blue has been giving both teams the Glavine Strike Zone tonight.

I'm guessing he's done.
