Nice recovery for an otherwise tough day for Céspedes. Ziegler looks like they put an usher in the game.
-
STINKY inning for Frazier. Turned two outs into hits.
-
How in the world did Cabrera get around on that?
-
No, I'm not comfortable with the Nimmo benching. I don't buy that the at-bats aren't there. Aside from giving a sniffly Céspedes a day off, there's nothing wrong with subbing him against righties for Conforto one day, Bruce another, and Gonzalez (with Bruce sliding to first) on another. Squeezing five or six guys into the four positions of the outfield plus first base should still get plenty of PT for everybody. The 13-man staff wouldn't be a thing if we weren't pulling pitchers after 86-pitch outings, but I'm hoping that's more a cold-weather-in-April thing. We could send him to Flushing except he's blocked by frickin' Oswalt.
-
Well, from the Yankee side, the Mazzilli family is now part of their brand. A pair of twins, one playing for the team and the other doing flirty sideline reporting, is marketing $$. Who doesn't love twins? Mazzilli probably has what it takes to get some time as a big league reserve, but the Mets are backloaded in big league-ready infielders, so it was going to take a bus crash for him to break through in Flushing. And you sure don't want to root for that. One thing about Coleman is that he missed most of his first two seasons with injuries. He had allegedly made some progress in the later stages of last season, but it looks like 2018 is his make-or-break year.
-
Well, with that .600 on-base percentage, it was only a matter of time.
-
Trying to see the upside of this deal, and it's not exactly jumping out at me. The guy has amazingly been successful in 6 of his 23 career attempted steals, a 26.1% rate, so even if he breaks form and gets on base, he's still a pretty good threat to make some outs. He had better be a helluva fielder or something.
-
Now's the time to sign Cliff Lee out of retirement.
-
A-Rod says he should have signed with the Mets, and the reactions range from "Whatever" to "Fuck off, A-Roid." Being able to argue about the lineup the Mets should have used in a game they won. Road trips aren't a slog. Sunday night baseball is something less than torture. Relatives who think you're a dope because of your stupid Mets allegiance are all reaching out to you with "How 'bout them Mets?" overtures. Toady office mates are stopping by your cube to commiserate on all things Mets. They can't pronounce "d'Arnaud," who has been in the league since 2013. You recognize these overtures as attempts to use their relationship with you as a legitimate way to get on the bandwagon, and for now, don't even care that much. You stayed up late for the game, and still got up early and got in to the office early, because sleeping on a win counts twice. You get to make comparisons to past winning streaks from immortal seasons. Some guys (Reyes) may not be on top of their games and others (Rosario) may be erratic, but there is an unspoken understanding among all Mets fans that there will be no whipping boys for the time being. Food tastes better. Music sounds sweeter. Orgasms last longer.

Yearbook Cover Derby Round 1.19 1962 vs 2018

Give 2018 some credit for the high-end PhotoShop work. How wonderful that the brand elements introduced with that 1962 book are still bringing returns. -
Frayed Knot wrote: That's the second game in a row that I wouldn't put into the time capsule to represent a baseball game at its best ... but we'll take it. I feel like, as a manager, while I can't win 'em all, if I've at least gotten the tying run to the plate in the ninth, I've done my job. And it seems like Mets opponents are that close and closer every night, but the Mets come out on top. Every night. I know it's a tribute to their depth. But it's also a tribute to luck. The bats need to open these things up. And we need Nimmo in the lineup. He won't play tomorrow against the lefty, but he ought to have started today.
-
It's a Familia affair.
-
Glub. Put in Lagares, man.
-
Gosh, Bear Claw has done his tribe proud.
-
You were saying?
-
Yup. Meanwhile, Urena isn't really putting it over the plate. The Mets should have Nimmo in the lineup against this guy. We should have chased him by now.
-
Josh Lewin has been a terrific companion for many a Mets game. Just as Gary Cohen says, "The players aren't tanking," two Marlins let a popup drop in foul ground as they jog after it half-heartedly.
-
I know what they say. Not gonna happen. Washed up. Stealing money. Blah, blah, blah. Yeah, I got two words. Tiger Woods. Years away from competitive play. Wrecked back. Multiple surgeries undermined confidence. Yet here he is, playing championship quality golf all of a sudden. And the game is better for it. Yeah, I don't know if swinging a golf club 72 times a day is more or less traumatic than chasing fastballs with a bat, but there''s something there. I think it's called hope. I'm past two words. But give me a chance. Give Tebow a chance. Give peace a chance. Hope often doesn't get you the outcome you want. But the game is better with hope. I'm David Wright, and I'm hope. Waddaya say?
