Well, he's 41, so he's unlikely to have too many more seasons in him. But I had come to understand that insulting the Mets meant arguing that blowing good money on fat, old, macho, flame-throwing, loose-cannon, mercurial Dominican closers was exactly the sort of thing they would do.

Or that! The answer!

Come on, Plaw. Just bounce one up the middle.

Answer, Mets!

Nobody positing tonight, but this is a pisser of a game. Two hits through six by Wheelie Dealie and the Mets actually playing with teamwork as they lead 4-0.

Derek Dietrich and J.T. Realmuto have cool names. At least, they did until Magneuris Sierra showed up. Yeah, I think it's been mostly a strong year in development, but I thought last year's rankings were artificially and deceptively low. The real problem isn't in the prospect lists, but that a lot of the top guys who are recent veterans those lists — Rosario, Smith, Plawecki, Flexie — have seemingly stagnated upon their graduation.

I see. April is the key word. I have problems reading while trying to scroll Playboy models off my screen at work.

Not understanding the Playboy post.

Wow! In 126 games!

With a homer, a double, and two more RBI last night, Alonso became the first player in affiliated ball to reach 100 RBI. I'm guessing he's a good bet to break the Mets' minor league RBI mark, if he hasn't already. Strawberry topped out at 97 in 1982. OE: Jefferies had 111 across three levels in 1986. Anybody got a better number than that?

That would be an interesting back-to-the-future move. He was the scouting director when Reyes and Wright signed. Among, you know, other things.

Currently up 7–1 over their upstate rival Reno Aces, the Las Vegas 51s continue to play some of their best, cleanest, most consistent ball of the year. And if they hang on ’till the wire tonight, they’ll lay their heads on their sweet pillows as a .500 team. You may laugh at that modest achievement, but this is at team that has had starters with ERAs of 7.17 (P.J. Conlon in 16 starts); 6.65 (Cody Martin, 14 starts); 6.02 (Cody Martin, 11 starts);10.30 (Nabil Crismatt, 6 starts); 13.50; (Vance Worley, 4 starts); 48.00 (AJ. Griffin in 2 starts); 18.00 (Aaron Laffey, 2 starts); 14.63 (Mickey Jannis, two starts). The rest haven’t pub up ERAs much lower, but since the last month or so, folks have been picking each other up, giving them a chance in every game, while winning seven of the last 10. Know who really deserves a bit o' credit. Scott Copeland, that’s who. The journeyman pitcher has bounced between AA and the majors this season, and now, halfway between, he’s put up an ERA of 3.00 in his AAA numbers. Tired of seeing relievers come and relievers go, with none of them lefties? I know you are! Well, the guy you need to be asking about is Ian Krol. The Angels and Braves castoff is undefeated in three decisions and four save opportunities this season, and scoreless pitching in his last five appearances covering 6 2/3 innings has his ERA down to 2.96. That’s like a run lower in a normal environment, or something. But all that offense in the environment really has to make the hitters happy, right? Well, if you’re Bryce Brentz, you’re surely coming around to the idea that it should. With a season marred by injury and underperformance, the powerful right fielder has come into his own since coming off the DL in August, going 6-24, with three of those hits leaving the park, upping his overall line to .267 / .336 / 565 // .901. When you share a lineup with the likes of Patrick Kivlehan, Pete Alonso, and Kevin Kaczmarski, that will PLAY. And the Aliens are showing the world THEY can play. If they hang on tonight (and why shouldn’t they?), they will have reached the .500 watermark, where they currently sit 8.5 games of the pace. They should be closer, you might think. But those damned El Paso Chihuahuas won’t lose, now having won seven in a row. Be patient. They head into Chuco Town next weekend. I couldn't find any active "Mets Beat" threads, but I found it interesting that Mitchell, Sr. was the Mets ringer on the diamond as they beat the press corps handily. [tweet:1t2lk11i] [/tweet:1t2lk11i] 1. I would have paid to see this game. 2. Please tell me Jeff Wilpon caught for the Front Office team.

Torn meniscus. Knee surgery. Season over. [fimg=500]https://cdn.paindoctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/meniscus.png[/fimg]

Good pick. A lot of talent emerging out of Kingsport this year.

I see two of them have the image of a football on them. And one of them seems to have a frontal illustration of helmet and facemask. But the last one looks like a crude drawing of a nutsack.

Hey, Lagares has hit. First he hit .339 and then he hit the DL. He's done nothing BUT hit!

After a rare series win, the Mets will be two up (breathing room!) on the Marlins if St. Louis TCB's tonight. Next team to chase in the league-wide standings is this very same Cincinnati squad, a game and half ahead. Matt Harvey, we look to you now.

Down 5-0 and 6-1 today today to the cellar-dwelling DSL D-Backs 2, the DSL Mets 2 staged a fearsome comeback, but ultimately ran out of innings, losing 6-5. The loss dropped our heroes to 27-30, continually approaching .500 and then falling just off the pace. The loss marks their third in a row, and, typically, their fifth in their last 10. A lot of their best players have been forwarded to their DSL Mets 1 brothers, so if they are going to get back involved in the hunt, they have to look within. With most of the best starters gone to the other squad, the bullpen has had to step up. And nobody has stepped up with quite the aplomb of Antonio Villalba. The Caracas native has appeared in 18 games so far, and there aren’t just cameos. He’s totaled 35 1/3 innings in that time, and none of his appearances has been a start. But if he ain’t starting a game, Antonio is going to kick-start your heart. In those 35 2/3 innings, he’s held opponents to a miserly .163 batting average. That has helped him to a 1.53 ERA. And the next homer he allows? Well, give that man a free dinner, because it’ll be the first homer he allows. Bringing the same venomous stuff from the left side is fellow Venezuelan Daniel Guzman. Danny is just behind his cousin with a .189 opponent batting average and a 1.60 ERA. I mean, both are walking too many, but neither is giving up hard contact. At all. Choose your poison right? All the best hitters have been sent to the DSL 1 team, including the two senior catchers. But that’s just a chance for new folks to emerge, and emerging so far is 19-year-old catcher Kevin Torres. Yeah, he’s only hitting a Metly .225, but he’s walked 28 times already in just 41 games, so he’s reaching base at a robust .359 rate. He’s also caught 31.2% of the fellow teeny-boppers who’ve tried to steal on him, and that’s not nothing. It won’t last long if they can’t beat cellar-dwelling sad sacks like the DSL D-Backs 2, but this all adds up to 27-30 record, 12 games off the pace in the Dominican Summer League San Pedro Division. Look, I’m not going to lie to you. Jefferson Escorcha is gone. He just is. And if that’s the way it’s going to be, that everybody who excels on this team is going to be transferred to the DSL 1 squad, well, that just sucks. This is what pretty much was the worst thing about baseball in the 1890s. Even more than the drunken rowdyism, the game was being destroyed by allowing owners to invest in more than one franchise in the same league. Boom — conflict of interest! As the season progressed, the best players from the lesser teams would be gradually transferred to the teams with the better records, and the whole thing grew demoralizing for the players and fans left behind. I don’t want to see that shit happen here. The DSL Mets 2, lest it be forgotten, had more or less the best record in affiliated baseball last year. But believe it or not, The Cleveland Spiders were good once, also! Let these guys stick with their assigned squads through the season. These guys are playing hard! Maintain some semblance of a competitive commitment to them, Mets brass! YAY! The Mets proved they can take a series! If it's best two of three! If they are facing the equally bottom-dwelling Reds! And they have their best two pitchers going! And the Reds sit Votto two games out of three! Baby steps!!

Pile it high, Mets. Normally, you don't want to waste your best reliever with an eight-run lead, but let's send our best reliever out there. Who's our best reliever?

Three doubles! THREE! Timid, my ass! Or his ass! Or whatever!
