Funny. I confess I've never seen the film in it's entirety, but have more than once stumbled across that scene or the "I amuse you?" scene.

Getting arsed by Josh Hader is one thing. These guys throw Craig Stammen out the there to finish up, an the Mets can't touh him?

A hot Syracuse team ran into a wall against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders, falling and falling hard, as SWB completed the sweep with a 14-3 crushing. Newly promoted Mickey Jannis was a tough story. The guy started in AAA last season, got hit hard in his first two starts, and got returned to Binghamton. He put together a strong season there, but could never get a return call to Las Vegas. So finally, this is the 31-year-old Jannis' next crack at the not-quite-big-time in over a year, and mercy, did they beat on him. They beat him like Jimmy, Henry, and Tommy beating on Billy Batts at the beginning of Goodfellas. They beat him like Miyagi beating the shit out of the Cobra Kai on Halloween. They beat him like Standish and Harlan beat the ever-loving fuck out of Charles Ingalls in the "As Long as We're Together: Part 2" episode of Little House on the Prairie. When the dust cleared, Jannis had given up all 14 runs, 10 earned, in 3 1/3 innings. He yielded three homers, 12 hits, and, well, as much as I'd hate to see him not get another chance, it's hard not to conclude that his water has found its level in AA. The loss dropped the Mets to 5-5 in their last 10, but still in second place in the six-team International League North Division, 2 1/2 games behind that same Lehigh Valley team they ate for breakfast last week. Having more success than Mickey Jannis has been … well, everybody, but apart from them, Drew Gagnon has certainly made a bid to join the rotation in Flushing. The Gagster has allowed only one earned run in three AAA starts this season, striking out 14 and walking only four in his 17 2/3 innings worth of starts between his frequent trips to the big leagues. Those frequent flyer miles can be cruel, but they sure haven't hurt D-Gag's game. While we're saluting guys who have already gotten a promotion to Queens, consider the work of Daniel Zamora. Daniel My Brother went unblemished in his last four appearances with the ‘Cuse, covering four innings, while allowing only one hit, before becoming the Dandy you love. And yeah, while we're on guys you've seen a little of with the big club, Luis Guillorme has been a machine since returning to Scare-acuse. In 10 International League contests, the defensive specialist has hit .345 / .500 / .379 // .879. He's split time between second and short and has had no errors so far in 40 chances. So come on! Two and a half out is nothing! Support your upstate Mets! They'll support you back! Somehow! Even against a performance like this, McNeil gets two hits. More Mets need to look at what he's doing right.

This infield is wicked fast.

That was a shite at-bat. "I'm-a gonna chase the pitches that even Rosario won't chase!"

Frazier breaks up the perfect game! And it isn't even Tuesday!!

Mets eat it in order in the first, striking out twice. Some guy named deGrom takes the mound for the Mets.

You still say, "DL"? What are you — racist?

Ben McDonald. Ended up having about a Gil Meche of a career.

I groaned at that too. That was was pandermonium. That was taken from the script of Kung-Fu Pander. It was dreamed up by execs eating at the Panderosa Steakhouse. That was Marvel going all, "We've kicked DC's ass in everything except Wonder Woman. We need a Chickz Rool Action shot. Write that in there for me. Don't worry about whether it makes sense." Besides, everybody was looking to clear a path for Captain Marvel. Isn't she supposed to be faster than any of them?

The Orioles, of course, pick first. Who can remember who they picked the last time they had an overall #1?

Mock draft first rounds out there have the Mets gravitating toward batsmen with their 12th overall pick. Keith Law is projecting that it'll be Texas Tech 3b https://kkam.com/mlb-pipeline-mock-draft-has-josh-jung-in-the-top-15-of-round-one/Josh Jung. Though Jung is not yet 21, consensus seems to suggest he has the potential to be a quickie and reach the majors by 2020. Problem is that Texas also is also said to be looking at him and they pick one before the Mets. Béisbol America on the other hand, originally mocked the Mets as drafting Kentucky lefthander http://www.the3rdmanin.com/zack-thompson-mlb-draft/Zack Thompson. While it's understandable that the Mets are as concerned as anybody about there not being enough pitchers named Zack out there, BA's subsequent mockerino switched their projection to Lefty-Hitting Outfielder https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/corbin-carroll/-69sPBNoEeWrOKA2nzwY6g/default.htmCorbin Carroll out of Seattle's Lakeside School, the noted athletic factory that has produced such baseball legends as Bill Gates. I know, you're shocked that a guy named Corbin Carroll would go to a private prep school. He also seems to have something of the same value added that Jarred Kelenic brought last year, in that he comes out of high school with a lot of college-level experience playing for national teams. I know you're all wondering what CBSSports is predicting. They too are calling for Corbin Carroll. They note that he'd be a top-five pick if he was 6'2" but he's not as projectable at 5'10", but that Major League teams might not be as shorty-shy seeing as how José Altuve and Mookie Betts are the best players in the American League not named Trout. I think of the Mets picking first-round shorties, I think of 5'9" Wally Backman (#16 overall, 1977). Even Jason Tyner was 6'1".

Lotsa lotsa over the weekend. Here's hoping that PtBNL isn't Smith. With all those teams in a short period for Font, I'm curious to what scouts are seeing that managers aren't. Not those.

Yeah, I'm guessing Matz mitzes a start and Vargas hits the DL at least briefly. That DL trip opens a up a spot for Font, and Oswalt probably gets at least one start in there, which may well be a good thing.

Who knew he batted lefty?

I wonder if the Mets were trying to shop d'Arnie to them, and while Font's name came up, a deal couldn't be made. Font is not a CAA client, but is another step in the direction of making the Mets all-Venezuelan.

It's weird. I can't be more frustrated with his play. At the same time, I didn't agree with sending JD up to pinch-hit for him in the ninth. It should be a no-brainer. Against a lefty flamethrower, you want a righty, who if nothing else, has a demonstrated propensity to get around on high heat. In my head, though I tend to feel that Nimmo still has something of that table-setting ability. As bad as he has been (.194 BA! Bad!), I still think of him as the best bet to get on base. Even though his OBP is down to .320 and Davis' was higher. I was thinking that he could take one off the elbow, work out a walk, or bunt one down the third-base line. But the idea that he can do all that just means that it's that much more important to get him right. If he's been your Wally Backman — the guy you want leading off in a one-run game in the ninth — and he's becoming the guy you pinch-hit for leading off in the ninth, he's no good to you like this. Also, it'd give a chance for Smith or Davis to see some outfield time.

Dear Black Sports, I want to root for the little guy against three publishing behemoths here, but yellow cover lines on a white background is unacceptable.

I left this one out. I guess it should be there for posterity. I have to admit: I realize it's PhotoShopped and everything, but he looks pretty darn good in a Dodger uniform. The Mets broke tradition by not getting a Cy Young winner for him.

If you're on the 40, your paycheck should be unchanged. But yeah, you pitch a couple of shutout innings, and you have your ticket already waiting for you before you hit the dugout.
