Brandon Nimmo plans to give a seminar on how to walk in dignity with throw up on your shoes. -

Frayed Knot wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: You know what would stop these silly hair-splitting challenges: you get it wrong and you lose your challenge for the next game That might be over-engineering. Only allow challenges to be made on the field and immediately, give the umps Bluetooth headsets, and the world is much more in alignment. Sure. But that play was a virtual and obvious tie at best, so the idea that the game gets stopped, for how ever long it gets stopped, so that the umps can decide a coin flip isn't within a Pete Alonso HR of what the rule was intended to "correct". If only this kind of silliness could have been foreseen prior to employing the rule! If the defense loses a challenge, the next batter is automatically awarded first base. If the offense loses a challenge, the next batter is automatically out. Higher stakes. If you lose the challenge, you don't end up back where you're started, but rather, you're doubly screwed.

More anonymous than even a bullpen coach. It's the assistant batting coach and I'm one of them. I'm Tom Slater. Assistant batting coach is a position that has only come into vogue in the last decade. Basically, my in-game job is to stay out the dugout, hand out by the indoor batting cage, and supervise players who are constantly sneaking back to take BP between at-bats. You want to shorten the game? Maybe you can get the defense in place better if they aren't taking BP under the seats. But that would eliminate the need for me, Tom Slater. I have two cool things underpinning my tenure: (1) I'm the rare find of a coach who has made it up from the college ranks to the major leagues. College has longer tenures, but professional coaching puts you on the track to the big league. Once you pick one, the boat usually sails on the other. From high school, to Marshall, to VMI, to Florida, to Auburn, to the pros. There's a thousand players out there with a little Slater in them. (2) I was assistant hitting coach under Pat Roessler. He gets fired, but I get to stick around and be Chili's assistant too? I mean, I'm not complaining. Working for Chili beats working at Chili's, nowwhu'msayin'? So, what do you think my season will feature? "He's a baseball rat," Mickey Callaway said when they hired me. "Those guys make the best coaches because they've done everything. They've been selfless leaders their whole life.” I'm doomed, aren't I?

Wow! Probably Hernán Crúz Hernán's greatest work. How that guy hasn't won a Nobel Prize for Literature yet is beyond me.

How is it that Robinson Canó had seven straight hits over the weekend and I was still rooting for his turn to not come around in the batting order? I felt a deeper connection with Roger Cedeño. With Ricky Trlicek or Brent Gaff. The guy clearly still has some virtues, but nothing I'm empathizing with, let alone bonding with, at all. Let's say I'm in the lobby of a building, perhaps even a skyscraper, and I'm waiting for an elevator, and suddenly three doors open at once. In one elevator stands Robinson Canó in a business suit. In the second is a similarly dressed Shingo Takatsu. In the third is a business-formal Garry Templeton. What I'm saying is that Canó's elevator would be my third choice. And I'm not even certain Takatsu speaks English. Canó's not habituated. It's been rough going with him and me. Does that make me a bad fan?

The Torpidity of Wilson Ramos is still my favorite magic realist novel.

I'm not sure how many handicap points I'm supposed to give the newsprint magazines when comparing them to the glossies. I certainly want to vote for the Frisella/McGraw shot, but how can that compare to the rich saturation Darling gets? Even if the composition was on a par (which it's not), the print can never be. It was easy to dismiss the stiff, pants-pooping Darling cover from GQ, but here we have him in his element and in his glory. SI gets my vote.

The Boys from Syracuse: The Syracuse Mets in 2019
Edgy MD replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/mets-3.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1> Good morning. I wish I could give you news of Mets storming into first place, but your Syracuse Mets are doing their best to get there. The second-hottest team in the International League has won eight of their last 10, pulling them within a game and a half of the first-place Lehigh Valley IronPigs in The International League North Division, following their https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/mets-3.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=17-4 victory over those same Pigs last night. Do any of youse mugs have stock in Adeiny Hechavarria? Well, practice spelling the guy's name, because the Miami refugee has hit .410 over his last 10 games. After driving in runs in five straight games, his 14 RBI are only one fewer than team leader Travis Taijeron, even though Taijeron has thus-far out-homered him, 7-0. He's only made two errors in 181 2/3 innings on defense. For a while there, it was thought that the Yankees would be interested in re-acquiring him via trade. The Mets, though, they will need a backup shortstop eventually, and possibly sooner, rather than later. =#0040FF]Cool Adeiny Hechavarria Trivia: He has an older brother named Alien. He may not have shown much (at all) so far at the big league level, but Corey Oswalt really made stiffs of Pawtucket his last time out, throwing a seven-inning complete game against the Sox, striking out six and walking only one while allowing the two runs in the 5-2 win. =#0040FF]Cool Corey Oswalt Trivia: Growing up in San Diego, Corey had the honor of being personally scouted and recruited by Mets big shot Paul dePodesta. On the other hand, he was also personally recruited by San Diego State coach Tony Gwynn to play infield for the Aztecs. Having grown to 6'4", he decided he was too big to be a shortstop and didn't have enough power to make it at third, so he went with the pitching route and the Mets. The oldest AAA team in baseball has had a lot of yeoman's work from their firemen. And in recent weeks, one of the standouts has been 2015 seventh-rounder Corey Taylor. The Atom's Core has thrown 7 2/3 straight innings of scoreless baseball, lowering his ERA to 1.84 over 14 2/3 innings. CorTay has been invited to big league spring training the last two seasons, and I suspect that the Mets will be seeing him soon, as now there is room on the 40-man roster to add somebody (although maybe that slot is being kept warm for Hechaverria. For now, he's on the Temporarily Inactive List, but I suspect that's merely because there was a roster pinch and he just had done a three-inning start when a gap opened up in the rotation. Look for him soon, because Corey is a story. =#0040FF]Cool Corey Taylor Trivia: Corey's senior year at Texas Tech was astounding. Throwing 57 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in the Texas heat, he put up a 0.31 ERA. Call me Danny Thomas because that sort of number makes me do a spit take. Lastly, the catching rotation is down to René Rivera and Colton Plaia. That's probably not ideal, and if Devon Mesoraco isn't kicking himself right now, somebody should be kicking him. If Travis d'Arnaud doesn't clear waivers and end up in Syracuse, look for the Mets to possibly add another vet, to make Mes feel that much stupider and make their AAA team that much older. The battle for foist continues tomorrow night, as the OrangeMets sent TBD to the mound to take down the Little Piggies in Their Starch-White Shirts. It'll probably be Santiago, Oswalt, or Lee. I know that isn't much of a narrowing down, but I suspect Leihigh thinks they will be toast no matter who is on the hill. All three ninth-inning dudes came up swinging for the fences at balls out of the strike zone, and taking changeups inside the strikezone. I think I'ma need to talk with Chili. The Mets should have won this game twice over.
-
Mets need Nieuwenhuis here.
-
Shmedwin.
-
Pete's got to stay a little more within himself in situations like that.
-
I don't know what is going to happen here, but I'm pretty over the moon that McNeil is putting teams in the position of walking him to get to Alonso.
-
Although I want to vote for Alonso's hair.
-
Yeah, Fammy gained my vote in that inning.
-
Well, that was a very Frazier inning.
-
Let Lugo keep going, man.
-
Frazier went down looking at a neck-high fastball. That's some weird umping.
-
Go, Laggy!!! Votto is so consistently terrific. It's surprising that he's only won one MVP.

Frayed Knot wrote: You know what would stop these silly hair-splitting challenges: you get it wrong and you lose your challenge for the next game That might be over-engineering. Only allow challenges to be made on the field and immediately, give the umps Bluetooth headsets, and the world is much more in alignment.

Sometimes I forget how much Keith loves guys adding to their RBI totals.
-
Why am I going to the mound to check out Wheeler and not Kierst? I don't know!!
