  1. Yabbut, today's top acts suck. And even for contemporary biopics, they've found more dough in going back four decades (Elton, Queen, Bowie) than two (NWA? um...). Maybe Amy Winehouse will make a marketable movie subject, because like Selena, she dead. But so many contemporary acts are built to be disposable, that it's really hard to imagine a legacy that will conjure anything in 20 years. will.i.am? But what do I know? In 20 years, maybe we'll all be walking around watching movies on our goggles, or participating in them through sensory immersion hardware.
  2. Granderson? Deeply associated with the era, although largely associated with guys who Citi Field didn't help, Curtis is 38th on our list, with a .698 OPS over 1,133 plate appearances at the new barn. Smiley Brandon Nimmo? He might have made our list at the start of the season, but a rough start this year has been something of a fall from grace, and that has wiped the smile right from his face. Nimmo is just out of the money, behind DooDoo and Wright at #13, with an .822 OPS over 464 plate appearances at Citi. Astrubel Cabrera An interesting guess. But he had some bad times with his good times. Enough, at any rate, to bounce him down to 19th, with a .774 OPS over 725 plate appearances in the Shadow of Shea Bridge. I'm thinking the fewer the PAs, the better the chance they may be high on this list... JD Davis Now we're doing some BRAIN thinkin'! You've got our #2 all-time Met in terms of OPS at Citi Field with at least fitty plate appearances. JD, in his first 74 Queens-based trips to the dish as a Met, has walloped to the tune of a .966 OPS. And, in that spirit, I'll pull the curtain away just a bit and let you know that each of our remaining dudes has less than 100 plate appearances as Mets at Citi Field. So put your esoterica hats on. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Delgado I don't know which part of your filthy, filthy asshole you pulled this out of, but you have correctly recalled that Carlos D. as his health waned in his final year as a Met, and the first year of Citi Field, his bat nonetheless continued to prosper as he crossed the career finish line. Well done! Carlos is number one with a .993 OPS in 61 trips to the plate at the brand new Citi Field with it's black outfield walls. Scott Hairston I'm probably mis-remembering, but I think Hairy did a disproportionate amount of his damage at Nationals Park. True or not, our scion of the Hairston legacy is 26th on our chart, with a .736 OPS in 272 plate appearances at home for the Mets in the post-Shea era. Carlos Delgado: .993_____ J.D. 3. Conforto. Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine, ... Actually, it's only by going to several decimal places that Conforto falls into ninth place. In reality, he is tied for seventh with Céspedes and Beltran Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Doodoo Seemingly synonymous with the Citi Field era, having amassed 1,422 plate appearances in the palace, but he's just out of the money, at #11 OPS all time. If McNeil and Pete are on there, I'll try Dom Smith. Dom Smith will sadly remind you that the good Smitty of 2019 is still being dragged down by the numbers of bad Smitty of 2018. He's way down at 46th with a .678 OPS over 194 plate appearances. _____________________ _____________________ Pete Alonso: .980_______ _____________________ Jeff McNeil: .913________ _____________________ Carlos Beltran .848______ Yoenis Céspedes: .848___ Michael Conforto: .848___ _____________________ Also Guessed: Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy, Dom Smith, David Wright Scoring batmagadanleadoff: 3 Chad Ochoseis: 3 d'Kong: 3 Fman 99: 3 Willets Point: 3 41 Forever: -1 Benjamin Grimm: -1 John Cougar Lunchbucket: -1 stevejrogers: -1

  16. http://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CE6k4-5WIAIyIMg.jpg> Dugout, or a Far Rockaway bus stop. You decide! The Mets may not go hard enough for some in the international amateur free agent market, but they go harder than most teams, and they also go broad, stacking their two DSL teams with teen titan talent not just from the standard hotbeds of The Dominican Republic and Venezuela, but guys from The Bahamas, Honduras, Colombia, and other lesser baseball nations. And the results have been typically strong. Despite splitting their talent between two teams, they combined to go .566 in 2018 and .662 in 2017. Quality! So, you probably won't be shocked to learn that the DSL Mets 1 are off to a gobsmacking good start again, opening the season at 4-2 and a half game off the early jockeying for position in the standings. But yesterday's game was not your typical game. In fact it was a pip — a combination of the hallowedness of professional athletes do their thing, and the wildness of Little Leaguers scratching away under the sun. Oh, things were progeressing along like, you know, a baseball game, with the Mets down 2-1 after three, but getting single runs in the fifth and sixth, to pull ahead 3-2. That was the score when the Angels went down in order before Alvaro Figueroa in the eighth. Closer Brandon Sanchez started getting loose, readying himself to pitch the ninth with the slimmest of margins to protect. But that didn't come to pass. In the bottom of the eighth, Nehemias Lopez entered the game for the Angels. And after he struck out his first batter, the dam done broke. Luis Castillo walked. Domenico Pascale walks. Famin Rodriguez walked. Jan Cabrera got hit by a pitch! Another pitching change by the Angels and Cristopher Perez singled to center. A wild pitch followed. Endy Rodriguez doubled to left! So on and so forth and by the time the dust settled a slim 3-2 lead had turned into an 8-2 laugher going into the ninth. The Mets sat their closer down and sent Alvaro Figueroa (perhaps cooled down by this point) back out there to finish up. Big mistake. Oh, somewhere six-run leads are safe in the ninth, but not this afternoon, not in the Dominican Republic. Against (first) Figueroa, (then) José Valdez, and (finally) Yeremi Abad, the Angels opened up a reign of carnage so unsettling that frankly, it belied their name. Pushing SEVEN runs across the plate, they perhaps shocked even themselves by heading into the bottom of the ninth with a 9-8 lead. Who needs a closer, right? I mean, it's a one-run game, but the Mets have to be so demoralized that they will just roll over, right? They just blew a six run lead!! They were suddenly losing. It's over https://static.adweek.com/adweek.com-prod/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2016/08/John-McLaughlin.jpg> WRONG! I mean, maybe the Mets just wanted to roll over and die, but the Angels wouldn't play along. Two walks, a sacrifice bunt, and a throwing error tied things up before a double play sent things to extra innings. And now we're in the realm of the automatic runner on second. The Angels had no problem scoring him and another guy and now they had a two-run lead to protect. But a walk, a wild pitch, THREE more walks and TWO more singles for the Mets, the last of which was a walkoff single for Domenico Pascale, and the Mets went home victorious. Don't expect every game to be this crazy, but this is DSL ball, and you can get more of it if you follow this space. It's almost not worth it to distinguish starters from relievers, because the Mets, at least at the beginning of the season, give two or so innings to the starter before rolling out the relievers one after the other. The most impressive pitchers so far, however, are the aforenamed Brandon Sanchez, who has thrown five innings, striking out four and walking one, and Ronny Rincones, who threw four scoreless in his one start, allowing no hits or walks, while striking out four. They lifted him with a perfect game and went on to lose the game. BOOOOOOOO! Outfielder Carlos Dominguez loves the extra-base hit and that has allowed him to lead the team so far with a .357 / .526 / .643 / 1.169. I can hear what you're thinking. You're thinking that, Hey, he's got an on-base percentage 126 points above his batting average! He must be getting a LOT of walks so far! Well, Buster, you couldn't be more wrong. In fact, in five games so far, Carlos Danger has yet to walk a single time. But he's more than made up for it by getting hit FIVE times — twice in a game, two times. Like I said, it's DSL ball, but if you want to see a team winning regularly while wearing "METS" on the front of their jerseys, the DSL may be the place to watch. 17. Frayed Knot wrote: Both Travis d'Arnaud (3rd of his season) and Kevin Palwecki (2nd) homered in games on Saturday, vs the Sawx & Yanx respectively. Though neither is hitting .200, considering that Travis was at .067 barely two weeks ago, his current .189 (.240 w/Tampa) looks positively robust. All 3 HRs have come in his last 7 ABs. Plawecki [.171/.263/.343 in 70 ABs] has started 22 of Cleveland's 64 games this year and has also become a much better fill-in pitcher since leaving Queens. His two mound appearances this season have both been 3-up/3-down situations, a lot better than his 4-run/5-hit/3-HR/3-inning stint as a Met back in 2017 So clearly he should strictly be used as a one-inning guy which means that maybe he'll start to be used in some higher-leverage situations soon. And, suddenly, d'Arnaud is out-OPS'ing Nido.

  20. I'll say this: Girardi had no shortage of praise for the team. Maybe it really was his pre-interview.
  21. Mostly good show tonight. Perfectly sensible bullpen deployment from Callaway/Riggleman too.
  22. Blackmon and Story to go.
  23. It'd be nice to have Canó available to pinch-hit here.
  24. Girardi: "Murphy's one of the few lefthanded hitters who uses the whole field." Fwhat?
