=41Forever post_id=12914 time=1560478576 user_id=69]Game should have been called in the eighth. You can't pitch well in a downpour.

=dgwphotography post_id=12913 time=1560478213 user_id=78] I'm getting tired of Rosario...

And Go-Go's thro-thro was almost as bad a relay as Gilkey's.

Craziness. Ordóñez would've had him at the plate.

Good play in the marshlands, Fray.

Stop digging holes, Díaz.

It's lookin' wet. Nice job by Conforto bluffing bunt and forcing the defense to adjust.

OK, a 4-2 lead. Just squeeze as much as you can from deGrom before going to the pen.

Ramos gets the knockout punch with a walk. https://cdn0.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2016/04/bald-bull-easter-egg.gif>

It can be cool to have a lineup with two firstbasemen.

Let's get last year's ball back also, while we're at it.

Did Go-Go do that smelly-bat thing the first time around with the Mets?

Quick decisions matter. Meanwhile, the Mets have hit two in a row to the fence for outs. They're about five feet short of back-to-back-to-back.

Good catch. I meant to just write "infielder." It was a long post.

FFC: "Marlon, Edward G., I've narrowed it down to one of the two of you for the role of Vito." EGR: "I just want you to know, before you make your decision, that I've been with Marilyn Monroe." MB: "Yeah, so? I have too." EGR: "So, we're even." MB: "Even? I've had James Dean, too. Top that." EGR: "Um. You know what? You take the role. You'll be great."

Conforto now on a 31-homerun pace — 26th best in Mets history and accelerating — and he's doing it completely under the radar.

The slumping team was hoping the dramatic victory was one to build on, but they fell decisively the next night, 7-2 to that very same Thunder, with Mickey Jannis getting knocked around. Though they've only one three of their last 10, the Ponies still have a chance to make a move, sitting only a game and a half off the pace, with their elimination number down to 10. It looks like it'll be a real photo phinish in The Eastern League Eastern Division, as four teams sit within a game and a half of each other. One advantage the Po's have is that they've played fewer games than any of their three fellow-contenders. With Anthony Kay heading to AAA, the other starters are really needing to step up, and frankly, if any of them had responded, I'd've let you know. But help came in the form of a promotion from St. Lucie. Luc Rennie opened his AA career with a five gorgeous shutout innings vs. fellow-contenders The Hartford Yard Goats. Did I say "shutout"? What I man to write was "five no-hit innings." His first time out! He whiffed nine against two walks, but, unfortunately, we live in an age of pitch counts, and Luc was gone after five, watching helplessly as the bullpen flipped the game over and the Ponyboys lost 3-1. You want to know who is not blowing it in the pen? That damn Adonis Uceta isn't blowing it. Adonis is one thick Dominican, and his last time out, he got five outs in a row in a 1-0 victory over The Hartford Yard Goats. Who needs a margin of error?! The sick, sick performance extended his streak to six straight appearances without yielding a run, covering 13 2/3 innings. He's a multiple-inning reliever. NICE! But they're gonna be chumps if they don't get the thumps, right? One guy who has found his thumping stick is David Thompson. Recently demoted from =#FF8000]Syracuse because ... well, the official reason is that they wanted "someone better," Tom-Tom has decided to file a formal complaint, from the batter's box. In the 10 games he's played in since his return to The Parlour City, David has slashed and mashed to the tune of .333 / .385 / .500 // .885 Tommy-Gun has always been a good RBI man for an infielder with fair-to-average power, and if he can get his strikeout rate back down near where it was in the lower minors, he stands a darn good chance to be what Eric Campbell and Josh Satin were before him — the bat-first backup middle infielder who stops hitting in his second year. You go, DT!! And you go, Rumble Ponies! With one more against the Thuns tonight at home, they send Griff Tannen to the mound. And it's both Thirsty Thursday and =#FF8000]SU Night, so wear your orange/Orange gear to the game and two-for-one draft beers or sodas. I'm sorry, no. -$400 While we wait for another contestant to buzz in, I'd just like to comment that, hey, while that may seem like a crazy guess, after hearing about Edward G. Robinson, all bets are off.

Why would Jorgensen be the patron saint of this? Just a thought. Jorgy came up in 1968 but never appeared in 1969 despite a helluva season in the minors. Then he came back in 1970. Yeah, he was gone before 1972, so his tenure wasn't perfectly bookended, but he gets extra points for coming back for the late-Torre/Bamberger years, but then disappearing again when Johnson and Gooden arrived and the team became a pennant race fixture. Clint Hurdle also ate something of a shit sandwich, being a 1985 and 1987 Met, but not 1986 or 1988. Well, if we really wanna go all geek-nerd on this, we need a definition. Otherwise, any player who was a Met anytime during the years 1974-1985 or 2001-2014 technically qualifies for playing during an interregnum. And with FAFIF's post, now we're including all playoff appearances, too -- when I thought this was about the period(s) in between Mets pennants.

That's what I'm seeing. I did not know that. I've probably mentioned this before, but I get a Kent McCord vibe off of him. Or maybe Kyle Chandler.

Fare thee well, Dave. I've had a fascination with guys who are interregnum Mets, clocking in between 1969 and 1973, or even between 1986 and 1988. I think the patron saint of them all is Mike Jorgensen.

Lots in common: The blurred background allowing the subject to stand as a singular figure despite being in a crowd of thousands. The seeming gaplessness of the crowds. The intense focus of men in the moment. Ron's half-Hawaiian-ness shining through, and Swoboda looking part Native American (though I have little reason to think he actually was). The elevation of the importance of secondary figures in the narrative about the team. Both are despicably handsome. Both were clearly found by scouts looking for the good face. Both covers respect the shot enough to remain lovingly uncluttered. Swoboda's feels like a night game because of all the blue saturated in the background, though I'm not sure it is. Darling's is saturated with orange and is clearly a day game. I'm going with Rocky because his road grays beat Ron's home whites with the piping, and his half sideburn flatters him more than Ron's mullet. Also, the tighter crop and the lesser action on Swoboda somehow conveys more information. An even better parallel would be a shot of Ron coming to a stop and looking in to his catcher before a pitch, also cropped at the chest. Something like this, only tighter and sharper: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L2rG14zLcDE/Va_aMzZOA8I/AAAAAAAA43k/YzxRl75VffU/s400/darling.jpg>

I was wondering if it was a trade proposal.
