  1. Daddy's fading. At least were up to ... it's only the eighth inning?!
  2. He's having a terrific game.
  3. Gary's testimony notwithstanding, I can get behind Leiper's stop sign there.
  4. I'm Carson Benge and I just got off the interstate. Unfortunately, while I was exiting, I saw that Brett Baty had just merged on.
  5. Yeah, but the oven mitt fail was more egregious.
  6. One downside is the paucity of great options — Brujan? Slater? Ibáñez? — to sub for Soto later in the game.
  7. Outfielding is at a premium in Coors, and a game can turn around quickly motivating Mendoza to get his defense out there early. Getting Taylor out there possibly improves two positions, but is a big upgrade in right.
  8. Oven mitts are the worst.
  9. The candlelight was a nice touch.
  10. Win a Lady and the Tramp Meal with Keith would be a heckuva fundraiser raffle contest.
  11. Stupid Soto just had to come up and end the rally.
  12. Alvarez is never going to break that GiDP record that way.
  13. Wow, under standard positioning, Benge's two-run single is an easy soft liner to second.
  14. Gary keeps calling TJ Rumfield "Rumsfield" — seemingly confusing him with the former secretary of Defense.
  15. Leadoff hitter Juan Soto providing valet parking. Opposite field, too.
  16. Let 'em lose. If they want to disgrace themselves, they can go crazy. The natural order of things makes life increasingly difficult when you lose. The problem is that we have a foolish system that un-naturally protects organizations from those consequences. Trying to re-engineer in artificial consequences, after engineering out natural ones, is goofy.
  17. If you're going to be Ted Turner and manage one game, have the good sense to do it with a Hall of Famer on the mound. Unfortunately, Phil Niekro was off to as terrible a start as the rest of the team. Phil would turn it around that season, but the rest of the Braves, not so much. All that said, the arbitrary rule stopping him from managing was bullshit. Plenty of owners have managed their teams in baseball history, and the world kept turning.
  18. Hey! We finally have a lineup! And that two-catcher thing is catching on! METS Starting Pitcher: Freddy Peralta RHP 1-3, 3.52 ERA Lineup: Juan Soto (L) LF Bo Bichette (R) SS MJ Melendez (L) RF Mark Vientos (R) 1B Brett Baty (L) 3B Marcus Semien (R) 2B Carson Benge (L) CF Francisco Alvarez (R) DH Luis Torrens (R) C COLORADO Starting Pitcher: Michael Lorenzen RHP 2-3, 6.09 ERA Lineup: Edouard Julien (L) 2B Mickey Moniak (L) DH Hunter Goodman (R) C TJ Rumfield (L) 1B Tyler Freeman (R) RF Troy Johnston (L) LF Kyle Karros (R) 3B Ezequiel Tovar (R) SS Jake McCarthy (L) CF
  19. Hard times for the Astros these days. They have a better record than the Mets but are probably in worse shape.
  20. That's a terrible lie to waste a perfectly good post window on.
  21. A big night. Mets are within a half game of 13th place.
  22. There seems to be a lot of disagreement as to whether there is actual talent on the team.
