  1. Sargent even appears to be rocking baseball shoes. David White as Larry Tate, of course, owns the scene, as he owned any and all scenes, God bless him.
  2. Another war seemingly loomed over whether the rules would allow a team to carry a player identified with a 0 and another with a 00 on the same active roster, seeing as they are visually distinct, but share the same value. When Benito Santiago wore 09, was there another player on the roster wearing just plain 9?
  3. I wondered about the indifference to bringing Marizzy back too. He sure hit during the brief time between injuries. Maybe they were frustrated with his health. Maybe they thought he was a Marisdick. Maybe the evaluations that made him a Mets target and asset were the evaluations of Van Wangenen and members of his team that are no longer in house. Player stocks often change during management transitions.
  4. Yeah, and Griffey too, but it's a Mets excursion.
  5. Albert Almora, Jr., of Sandy Alomar, Jr., catcher, coach Ruben Amaro, Jr., coach Tony Armas, Jr., p Garry Matthews, Jr., of John Mayberry, Jr., of Eric Young, Jr., of Need some infielders. Also, not a lot of star performers there.
  6. I guess Jackie Bradley was overplaying his hand in the Junior market.
  7. They're gonna need a centerfielder when they trade Troutski.
  8. Not Robinson.
  9. Also, 10:30-to-4:30 is my idea of a fine workday.
  10. Wow. I thought he slept in a Texas uniform. He and Adrian Beltre on the left side of that infield was one of the best long-running shows in baseball. He must've accepted that trade by waiving his 10-and-5 rights, too.

On September 22, 2004, with the Seattle up 16-6 over host Anaheim, the Mariners sent René up to pinch-hit for starting catcher Dan Wilson in the ninth. Only 53 days past celebrating his 21st birthday, Rivera grounded out to second. Little did he know this humble feat would lead to him being crowned dean of the 2020 Mets! Which 2020 Met bears the nickname "Big Fudge"?
  12. Shreve made his debut July 19, 2014, the day James Garner died. https://pics.me.me/sorry-you-are-not-a-winner-plea-play-again-18574551.png>
  13. So might many of us. I mice elf, in fact, would have also supposed so an hour ago as well.
  14. Which 2020 Met made his MLB debut the earliest?
  15. There's certainly still some interesting talent out there. If they're diving back into the market, I think he's my pick.
  16. "Rich, what were you thinking when Freddie Freeman came up with tying runs on in the sixth?" "Well, I got him on a change in the dirt in the first. And when I got two strikes this time, McCannsie signaled for another one of those. But I was all 'Don't go chasin' waterfalls!'"

  18. There's a pain point for everybody. The only guy I want to overpay for is Lyle Overbay.
  19. Wait... the Dodgers got Conforto and Syndergaard too?!
  20. And that's how it breaks.
  21. ... this has to be as weird a Mets offseason as there be. Possibly bringing in Trevor Bauer, along with already hauling in Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco, James McCann, Trevor May, Aaron Loup, and Joey Lucchesi, along with Sam McWilliams and Jordan Yamamoto, despite missing some of their prime targets, along with bringing back Marcus Stroman and flipping Matz for three prospects, already makes it one of their most active offseasons in the 21st century, or perhaps ever. This despite starting the offseason with Brody Van Wangenen as the GM, then having no GM, then having Jared Porter as the GM, then having no GM again, and then having Zack Scott as acting GM. It's like the year of three popes. Except it's half a year. I realize it's largely a product of aging and bad lighting, but no wonder Sandy Alderson looks so tired all the time. Plus, he's had to stand up and take the heat for, like, two and a half scandals. All this during COVID-times, too.

  23. =metsmarathon post_id=55483 time=1612546147 user_id=83]but there are certainly worse people in baseball available, which is faint praise to be sure.
