  1. So basically, teams from The South Atlantic League and The New York/Penn League are operating under some sort of makeshift merger under the less-than-committed-sounding name of The High-A East League. That's a painful lot of bus-riding.
  2. Todd's first game back in uniform was an 0-5 he took in Baltimore on September 2. Met fans, to judge by Twitterer, were not particularly happy to see him back, but the 9-4 win softened his otherwise starchy collar. But when he got tapped to start again the next day against the Yankees, fans were downright angry. "Is he now an actual regular?!" is something that somebody might have cried so I'm putting it in quotes even though I have no source for it. But what a genius move — a super-genius move, in fact — it turned out to be, as he went 3-5 with a homer and two doubles as the Mets https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202009030.shtmloutlasted the Yankees in extra-innings. It was a game also recalled for a CRUSHING walk-off homer by a badly slumping Pete Alonso, and a pinch-running appearance that sealed Billy Hamilton's fate, getting thrown out stealing third in his final appearance in an honorable uniform. Yeah, Todd only hit one more homer the rest of the way, but I was glad he shut up some malcontents and had one more day of triumph.
  3. Who I call a dick may be subjective. Who actually is a dick is not.
  4. We'll have to get d'Kong to take some swab samples and send them to 23andMe.
  5. It's interesting to talk about his intense delivery, because beneath that, it's hard to plug more cliches-per-sentence into one's answers than he did.
  6. And look at this WikiFact! [bLOCKQUOTE]Looking at his entire professional career, Pizarro won more than 400 ballgames. His regular-season count is 392: 197 in the US (131 in the majors and 66 in the minors), plus 38 more in Mexico in his late 30s and 157 while playing winter ball in his homeland. His final record in Puerto Rico was 157–110, with a superb 2.51 ERA. Only Rubén Gómez had more wins (174, and he needed 29 seasons to do it).[/bLOCKQUOTE]
  7. Nine tours of duty with eight organizations, and his name appropriately sounded like that of a global explorer.
  8. ¡Loco! I think the Endy Chavez Challenge is about to become a thing.
  9. And the baby brother is the slugger. https://www.facebook.com/909275045792717/videos/470691210463186https://www.facebook.com/909275045792717/videos/470691210463186
  10. With that build and that energy and the Long Island roots, seems like he'd be a good bet to pursue the soccer route to athletic glory. And ... hey, look. The high-energy observation is https://www.usabaseball.com/news/topic/general/six-things-to-know-about-marcus-stroman-306764322nothing new.
  11. I don't know how permanent the realignment of the minors is supposed to be, but they really have something close to an ideal setup, with the top three minor league teams all within the state, and within driving distance if you're willing to go that route. The two teams operating out of St. Lucie are now adjacent to one another in levels, as the St. Lucie Mets are now representing A, or Low A, instead of High A, and low A is going to mean something considerably lower now that there aren't two Short Season A teams in between that level and Rookie ball. This really works in one way because teams prefer their spring training facilities for rehab assignments, especially initial ones for players coming off a long layoff, allowing them to get game action but stay close to the rehab trainers and facilities. They've often spent a couple of weeks playing with the FSL league St. Lucie Mets when they're at home, and the Gulf Coast League GCL Mets when they're at home. That allows them to stay off of buses and under observation, but it forces them to jump up and down across several levels of competition. Now, not so much. The big downside — and I'd ask Sandy about his plan for this if I was in on a press conference — is how they're going to manage debuting twice as many first-year pros this season with 25% fewer slots to fill.
  12. I feel like Ian Hunter, because all of the good ones are taken. But you know, I was talking to Mike Montgomery just a while ago, and he's got his eye on the rotation. I'm putting 25 cranes on the southpaw.
  13. Bryce Harper used to catch!
  14. I nominate lefty Kevin Kobel for 1978. Mostly stinky across various trips in previous years for Milwaukee, coming off a unimpressive year in AAA, his career was at a crossroads when the Mets got him for cash. He got off to a strong start in Tidewater, came up, and plugged the living daylights out of a hole in the rotation. ERA was at about 0.50 through his first 35 innings, while getting jerked from the pen to the rotation and back again. Later starred in the hit indy film Once. 15. He was no Joe Panik.
  16. The second he enters a game, he'll be the top Guamanian-born player in team history. As for being the top Sean, his wife Caroline Olivia Reid-Foley, as far as I've been able to suss out, has no affiliation with either Fox News or the Trump administration, so he's already passed Sean Gilmartin in my book. 17. I don't know. I defer to Semper Fi, but what's more out-of-nowhere than picking a guy from outside the organization? Who is more likely to put up wins for the 2021 Mets right now? Jordan Yamamoto or Shane Bieber? If I nominate Bieber and win, I might contend that this pick was more out-the-fuck in February than Jo-Yams.
  18. Wow. I may have new favorite indy team.
  19. "Marcus, why don't you pound some Monster energy drinks and go talk to the media?"
  20. Yeah, Rivera's real breakthrough was in 2016 anywutz.
  21. Seems intense. Like, wired, intense. A BLM shirt and a handgun necklace might get some attention.

  23. That same principle should lead Patrick Mahomes to pull his punches against the Jets.
  24. Pinch-hit in a key situation for Brandon Nimmo, and despite the lefty-righty thing swinging in the Mets favor, i wasn't feeling it. Didn't come through, if I recall. Even if I don't, it's probably a pretty safe bet. Sang a celebratory Dominican song when he won with the Nats. Got into some sort of controversy with them too.
  25. I don't remember this rumor or being for it or against it. Good for the Padres. Good for Tatis. I hope it's a happy marriage. I wonder how early Pete Alonso's agent got up this morning.
