  1. The part of BP's numbers that I'm not getting is their WS odds. Not bitching about it or anything, just wondering how they came up with them. The randomness of post-season outcomes, particularly before you even know the match-ups, seems to not lend itself to this kind of analysis and it's odd that the best teams in each league sit and 4th & 6th best chances in their view only somewhat better than half of the most likely winners.
  2. He's not on the 40-man at the moment (was removed in order to send him down, etc.) that bringing him up requires more paperwork than merely bringing him up (although after Parnell last night maybe it's worth it). As for after the season, he doesn't yet have enough service time to simply declare himself a FA meaning that the Mets could hold onto him if they wish. IOW, he'll be a FA after the Mets non-tender him when the season ends.
  3. deGrom - 3.5 Uribe - 1.5 Granderson - 1.5 Johnson - 1.0 Colon - 0.35 O'Flaherty - 0.25
  4. Seems to me that there could be a lot of them this year. Definites: Matz - after one more rehab start Duda - not really a call-up but he'll join the club when ready w/o bumping anyone else off the roster so it's kind of the same things Plawecki - just for the 3rd catcher aspect if nothing else. Better he PHs down the stretch than Recker Probable/Possible: Nieuwenhuis EYJ - no point in going out and getting him if you're not going to use him a LHR or two - Alvarez, Rice, Alex Torres Gee? - gee, if you don't bring Gee up now it really spells the end of his NYM tenure Campbell, Dilson - maybe one or the other. Neither hit in NYC, both hit in LV Eric Goeddel - is rehabbing and supposedly near ready Tim Stauffer? - (RHP) former 4th overall draft pick (SD in 2003) was awful w/Minnesota early on but has some good numbers over 44 innings since being picked up and stashed in Vegas
  5. Reed is one of those relievers who had a real good year or two as closer (w/ChiSox) but then quickly faded.
  6. TransMonk wrote: I worry that both deGrom and Harvey seem to turn into poop after 100 pitches. The bigger problem seems to be that they're getting to 100 so early even when pitching well. And that in turn means that they're tiring by the 6th instead of 7th-8th and that the pen has to cover an extra inning or two which puts both that game and sometimes the next one more dicey to get through.
  7. Bleccch! Should have won last night's game, but this one we didn't deserve for a minute.
  8. What's the point in NOT challenging that call (Papi at 2nd base)? Are they saving their challenge for another time ... it's the 9th inning!!
  9. Signs of life. Probably the first two hard-hit balls in about five innings.
  10. On the other side of the coin, we made Kelly throw around 30 pitches in the 1st inning but he's been on cruise control since and could probably go 9 at this rate with the Boston bullpen all tuckered out from last night.
  11. When was it, two weeks ago?, when Murphy went home when he should have gone to 2nd. This time he goes to 2nd when he should have gone home. Meanwhile, deGrom here is using up more pitches than Harvey did last night.
  12. Maybe. FOX reports that the Mets, in search of a lefty reliever, have put in a waiver claim on SD penner Mark Rzepczynski [Zep-CHIN-Skee]. This doesn't mean he's Met property yet but it's possible that a deal will be worked out in the next couple days. If he does join the club and pitches well enough to garner himself some shares of Schaefer, spelling nightmares will be breaking out all over the place and Grimm's magic spreadsheet may overheat.

I think they are just being cautious and resting him for the afternoon start following a extra inning night game. Back to back extra innings games to be precise which totaled more than 8 hours.
  14. Another opportunity to put up a 'W' before the Nats even take the field.
  15. Especially once President Trump kicks out all the immigrant workers and they're forced to re-name the place the [u:1zb2yxco]National[/u:1zb2yxco] House of Pancakes.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: I blame this loss on Soupcan. If we wind up blowing this division lead I do hope that we schedule a CPF group ass-kicking of him. I mean it's bad enough that he's spent the last year or more hanging out on some super-secret elitist forum talking trash about us. But if he comes back here just in time to blow the whole thing ... man, there's gonna be some hell to pay. P.S. They've got to do something about that wall behind the wall in CF. Most of the disputed calls in that park involves balls hitting "the black" and coming back onto the field as if they're still in play. Move it, angle it so as to produce a different bounce, smear it with super-sticky glue so there's no rebound at all, ... something!
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: Harvey goes 7 and this is a whole different game. Just saying. Almost certainly yes. Problem was that while Harvey was good he wasn't very efficient. He faced 21 batters in all but required four or more pitches to dispatch with 16 of them and threw five or more to 13 of the 21. That's what pushes a pitch count to 103 in just six innings which is an only marginally efficient total if spread over seven innings and is particularly high for a guy in the midst of giving up just 2 hits and walking 1. So it's like they allowed him seven innings worth of pitches, he just used them all up in the first six.
  18. Harvey - 4.0 Clippard - 0.75 Familia - 0.75 Granderson - 1.0 Wright - 1.0 d'Arnaud - 1.0 Flores - 1.0
  19. Rockin' Doc wrote: Where's Mookie when you need him? On the other team at the moment. Obviously we were bound to lose a game sooner or later, just suxx to do so on a night where our starter tossed a shutout (for at least as long as they let him) and where their staff tried to hand us the game.

Also the first time we've been out-HR'd in a while. Lack of bullpen depth also hasn't helped but the way to combat that might have been to have Harvey pitch the 7th and Familia pitch a second frame. And after all that shit THEY'RE STILL NOT DEAD!!

  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: Hm. Mets- Red Sox tied at 3 going to extra innings. That turned out OK last time. And just like the last time that happened, I'd feel OK about this if we can keep the deficit at one run. It was that second run all those years ago that made me feel the WS was lost.
  23. I was just about to type that I was hoping that a 12-pitch inning would get Familia another one. But not in today's game it doesn't.
  24. Well that went from promising to shit in a hurry.
  25. Damn!! He should have bunted.
