  4. Man we would have been in much better shape had David Wright showed up tonight.
  5. 'bout time the Marlins actually hit one AT one of our guys. Not to take too much away from their hitters tonight, but virtually everything they've hit tonight has found a hole.
  6. Nats & Braves taking turns NOT cashing in on bases-loaded situations. 1-1 top 7. Nats are churning through pitchers like they think they need every game or something. Used 3 thru 6 even though only 1 run given up.
  7. Koehler suddenly can't miss the strike zone and when he does we swing at it anyway.
  8. On the positive side: efficient pitch count for deGrom. Thru the first three averaging < 12 pitches/per Far too often lately our guys have been running up high counts even when they've been giving up very few hits & runs. deGrom, Harvey, and Syndergaard all have been guilty of this in recent starts.
  9. Don't want to be letting this guy off the hook all night. 3 BBs already -- including 2 to lead-off batters -- but nothing to show for it so far. Of course if this game were being played at Yanqui Stadium we'd be up about 6-0 right now.
  10. So according to the crack research staff here at CPF Central, the movie debut will either be in October or not in October. More details on this as they become available, but only if you keep it where it is.
  11. Heard/read recently that the October release date I mentioned above and had copied off of IMDB is for some festival that going to serve as its coming out party but that the general public release date is going to be more like late November - which is both what I had originally seen listed and a time which makes more sense for Oscar hype and so on. So it looks like it'll still be another 2-1/2 months or so until this is at a theatre near you. P.S. I like how, in early July, I threw in the line about not having this conflict with NYM playoff games. Turns out I was only being prescient.
  12. Wisler is pitching like his mother and won't even finish the 2nd inning. So I think we can pretty much figure on a six game lead before the night is over.

He spent the bulk of October shutting down waves of MFYs, Twins and Giants. Nobody checked his August 31 ID. MLB later admitted that they should NOT have approved K-Rod's admittance onto the post-season roster (they apparently misinterpreted their own guidelines) but by the time they did so it was after the Angels (one and only) WS was in the bag. They've since tightened the rules somewhat from those days anyway. Steve Phillips ('amongst others) exploited a loophole which allowed them to stick some single-A player on the 40-man, then DL him, then replace that "injury" with a newly added in September player. He pulled it off at least once in either the '99 or '00 teams (maybe both?) and others were doing to same. But, in general, yeah, being on the actual active roster on Aug 31st is certainly not the sole requirement.
  14. Harvey - 2.4 Gilmartin - 0.2 Clippard - 0.3 Reed - 0.3 Tejada - 2.0 Conforto - 1.4 Cespedes - 1.4 d'Arnaud - 1.2 Johnson - 1.0
  15. Dusting off this early season quiz, Ryan Braun has since passed Robin Yount for the Brewers/Pilots career HR title, so the quiz is back down to three answers.

  17. Ashie62 wrote: Reed saved 29 in 2014. He is only 26. If his arm trouble is history it could work very well. 32 in 2014 actually, following seasons of 29 & 40 in 2012 & 2013 Problem was that his ERA was never that low (4.22 over those 3 years) and he blew his share of saves as well (18 blown while getting 101 saves). All that said, he's worth a shot and did a good job tonight while saving Familia for a closer game. I just think those peripheral numbers point out the danger in judging closers on their save number alone. But a 4.22 ERA & 1.22 WHiP (2012-14) are mediocre at best even if that puts you ahead of Parnell in the pecking order.
  18. And on that note, the Cards tie it up.

Caught part of the Phils' radio booth the other day and former pitcher Larry Anderson was insisting that when he first faced the Mets it was while the Mets were playing in Yanqui Stadium while Shea was being renovated It took about three innings to correct it and even then only because someone notified the booth that the first version was all wet. Andersen actually came up with the Indians and first faced the Yanx when they were playing at Shea. He obviously had the facts reversed which is like reason #5,681 of why players' recollections of their careers are notoriously inaccurate. Anderson's just flat out awful. And an idiot. It was in the midst of that Tuesday night blowout so the booth can be excused somewhat for straying off topics. But that's a fairly sizable mistake and, yeah, they didn't exactly sound too professional.
  20. Nats up 2-1 via HRs from Werth & Zimmerman But somehow they're still only in the 5th inning (even though they're nearly 2 hours into a low-scoring game) and Scherzer's pitch count is high (80+ thru 4.1 IP) And the Cards are threatening: 1st & 3rd/1 out in the 5th

  22. or something like that
  23. Side Wall 2 - D. Brown 0
  24. Michael Conforto: .302/.392/.535 OK it's a small sample size -- though at over 100 PAs at this point it's not That small. But for a guy with barely 500 minor league ABs who was called up prior to what the team thought was ideal and about 1/2 season before the more heralded and higher drafted (#2 overall vs #10 the following draft) Kris Bryant as far as their pro careers go (although w/approx the same number of minor lg AB/PAs) this is more than we had any right to expect. Bryant, btw, at .269/.370/.482 with just about an identical HR rate (1 per 21 ABs) Now shirley that he's being mostly platooned helps and there'll be the inevitable adjustments which he will in turn need to adjust to (although he seems to have reacted quite nicely to round 1 of that dance) but, to date, I haven't seen more than a handful of ABs where he's looked out of his element. And while I'm at it, he seems at least somewhat better than the negative -- or, at best, indifferent -- reports on his running and fielding that tailed him during his brief journey through prospect-land.
  25. Aaron Nola was the 7th overall draft pick in 2014, four years after Harvey was taken in that same spot. And while Nola is NOT from New Orleans, he is from Louisiana, Baton Rouge to be specific. Was a top prospect both in the Phils system and for MLB in general this past winter.
