  1. btw, what a genius lineup by Terry. GENIUS I tells ya!!
  2. Matt Harvey says he's staying out of the debate, but also said multiple times he hired Boras for a reason, to protect his best interests ... [and] says he's focused on Tuesday. Asked if he'd pitch in playoffs, said he's focused on Tuesday. Asked who makes call. Same answer. He also said he had no idea the messages he and Boras were exchanging were considered classified and that he thought all agents had their own dedicated server. He also regrets that most of the emails between he, his agent, and Dr. Andrews have been erased but he has no idea how that all happened.
  3. The never-winning Shelby Miller not doing us any favors down in DC. After cruising through the first two innings he gave up a bushel of two-out hits in the 3rd including another Bryce Harper HR and it's 4-0 Nationals in the 4th.

Done in by my insistence on adding lame jokes.
  5. Iko Iko Iko Jock-a-mo fee-no ai (flows better than Ike Ike Ike)
  6. Campbell reflects the idea that the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd options at 1B (Duda, Murphy, Cuddyer) are, in some fashion or another, unavailable, and that the LH starter for the other side makes Terry opt out of option #4 (Johnson) Young in RF is part the LHP coupled w/Grandy's general ineptness against them, and also probably the idea that you can't ask a guy to hit for you if you never give him any ABs. The oddest part about him being stuck in RF is Cespedes's unwillingness to play there. Lagares was put in RF last night after a double switch because Cespedes is reportedly uncomfortable there from never playing it. He also frustrated the BoSox last year by refusing to play there. Tough to see how RF is being treated as if a completely different animal.

  8. deGrom - 2.4 Robles - 0.5 Clippard - 0.5 Cespedes - 3.0 Johnson - 1.4 d'Arnaud - 1.4 Uribe - 0.4 Nieuwenhuis - 0.4
  9. What he was thinking was that the Marlins had 3 LHBs in the next 4 hitters and the winning run was already on base. I said in the thread that I would have stuck with Goeddel but of course he was the guy who put the winning run there in the first place and gave up hits to 2 of the 6 batters he faced so it's not like that was a sure thing either. Nor was it like the rest of the pen was in shutdown mode: Gilmartin: 2 batters/2 hits; Reed: 5 batters, 2 hits/1 BB Robles pitched a perfect 8th but it seems to me that if Terry had stuck with him after the Mets tied it up rather than go to Clippard then we'd be complaining about that. I'd argue that the move to make would have been to bring Clippard back for a 2nd inning after his 1-hit/10-pitch 8th since you weren't forced to take him out via a PH move. Then you'd play it by ear after that. The Nats, after mgr Williams took a bunch of heat for not using Storen & Papelbon enough or correctly, used Papelbon for two innings last night and he wound up being the winning pitcher even after giving up singles to his first two hitters. But they also had the advantage of being at home and not being burdened by that 'Save the Closer' thing. It also makes your bullpen mgmt look better when your offense scores 1 in the 9th then 3 more in the 10th.
  10. A double walk-off bummer of a night.

Not that he was great, but if there were several LHBs in a row then maybe you go to O'Flaherty but what worked for the first batter didn't work twice. On the other hand, it's not like he was our biggest problem tonight. It was not a well-played game from the git-go.

  13. Man these extra inning games on the road are tough on the psyche. After you don't score in the top half you know you have to hold them, then score, then hold them again in order to get the win. That's mentally draining.
  14. Ellington in to pitch. I think we should make his mood real dark. Not black dark, but maybe like indigo.
  15. I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to whomever had Marcell Ozuna bunting.
  16. Whenever Gary says this reliever's name -- Barraclaugh -- I think he's saying Bearclaw, so I keeping looking and expecting to see Will Geer from 'Jeremiah Johnson' out there.
  17. Well we need to win this one now. Nats just walked-off los Bravos: single - single - HR (Michael Taylor)
  18. Well if nothing else our bullpen situation should be in better shape than theirs.
  19. Braves don't score in top 10 Harper leading off - and I don't think he's made an out in like four days or something. Mainly he's walked like 30 times in the last week.
  20. Going to extras in the nation's capital.
  21. Now Werth has singled, the Braves have yanked their closer, and it's Anthony Rendon up vs Pete Moylan (I thought Moylan was out of the league like five years ago)
