  1. Not that 7-5 to a last place team is anything to crow about. Bottom line is this: they have to be one game better than Cincy over the net six AND even with or better than Arizona. At now five games in back of the Padres AND don't have the tie breaker there either only 6-0 vs 0-6 would catch them so that ain't happenin'.
  2. To clarify: the Mets have lost 11 of their last 15 overall including 2 of 3 to the Nats, but are 7-5 vs the Nats this season.
  3. Makes that whole 'Magic Number' thread back in May (April?) seem maybe a wee bit premature, eh?
  4. Final: Reds 6 - Cubs 3 Cubs scored once in the 8th and came within a hair of tying it ... and then the Reds hit a 2R HR in bottom 8 So the upshot is this: we have to play better than or equal to the Reds over the next seven games AND/OR hope for a collapse by the Padres (currently up 5-2 to CHW). If one or both of those don't come true it's no post-season for us.
  5. 4-2 Reds batting in bottom 7 If Cincy holds on it'll be their 4th straight win. Every time the Cubs tie up the game or go ahead someone on the Reds hits an immediate HR, or so it seems. They've now hit 8 round-trippers in the last 4 games including five in Friday's game and two today.
  6. And now we need to rely on the kindness of (ChiTown) strangers.
  7. Didn't have that play on my BINGO card.
  8. I think every hitter (except the two bunters) have gone to 0-2 counts.
  9. There's the shutdown we needed. It's on a platter now for you: closer gone, young pitcher in, speed on the base (Marte) and coming up (Acuna, Alvarez, Mauricio ... OK, not Alvarez)

  11. G. Soto for the lefties coming up, or Diaz?
  12. Let's see another bounced breaking ball big boy.
  13. [bIGPURPLE]YUGE[/bIGPURPLE] double steal (Sac Fly in play, no GiDP)
  14. Would have been better had that Not hit Lindor (runner goes to 3rd with < 2 outs) ... but with two strikes on Lindor already ... maybe not.
  15. I was just about to type that I don't like this ph assignment so much ... but Torrens singled on the 1st pitch before I got to the keyboard.
  16. a) they closed the gap to a single run they turned the lineup enough so that Lindor, at least, will bat in the 9th, and Soto also unless they go 1-2-3
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Vientos for McNeil is a tough call. Probably the right one, but a tough one to make. I could have made arguments both for and against that move ... but it worked so who cares. At 0-2 it wasn't looking good though.
  18. =ashie62 post_id=204983 time=1758385731 user_id=90] Cavalli was a top prospect in 2020 or so ... He's more a journeyman AAA arm now
  19. We're going to need more chairs!
  20. Sure. But just because they've won three of four since the eight game losing streak let's not pretend that their ability to stink up the joint is a thing of the past.
  21. Right, all of Soto's 'pickoffs' were counted as caught stealings because he was headed to 2nd in each case (he was trying to time a walking lead and got sniffed out). My point is that I believe ALL pickoffs should be counted as a CS: if you're 25-for-30 stealing but have also been picked off four times then, in my book, you're 25-for-34, but that's not how it's reported.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: This might bother me as slightly selfish except for the fact that he never, ever gets thrown out stealing. Except for the occasional pickoff which, as far as I'm concerned, should get counted the same as a caught stealing. Don't they? No. If you steal eight straight times while not being caught you're listed as being 8-for-8 in steal attempts even if you get picked off four times in the interim*. In my book you should be 8-for-12 regardless of whether those outs come via the catcher or pitcher as the outcome is identical as a result of your aggressiveness. * If the runner is judged to be 'breaking for 2nd' on the pickoff is can be credited as a 'Caught Stealing'. But if he's diving back towards 1st or merely freezes in place it's a pickoff which is counted as a different category, not as a 'CS'.
