Even though he has the schooling and brains to have more going on in his life, Joseph Gordon-Levitt* --street name: Wilee-- opts to live the high adrenaline life of a NYC bicycle messenger, racing through the streets of Manhattan on his fixed-gear, no-brakes machine. And, really, would you expect a different backstory on a movie bike messenger? But when he's assigned to pick up an envelope from a Columbia University student to be delivered as a 'Premium Rush' down in Chinatown, he suddenly attracts the interest of a crooked cop, a bicycle cop, his messenger rival, his sometime girl, plus some Chinese gambling thugs/human smugglers. * I have trouble remembering the proper order of those names and also where the hyphen belongs

In the future - or actually the future's future since this film takes place in the future about those folks dealing with their future -- the overlords of that time solve the problem of what to do with those who get out of line not by killing them but by using the ability of time-travel to simply 'disappear' them. They solve both that problem and the one about what to do with the body by shipping them back 30 years into the past where assassins, known as 'Loopers', are waiting to execute them. Naturally things do not always go smoothly and hi-jinx ensue when main character Joseph Gordon-Levitt winds up meeting his future self in the form of Bruce Willis.

Judging from the above list, I didn't have a very movie-going year. In rough order of goodness: Argo Premium Rush Looper The Grey Ted Safe House

It would be quite unexpected if I were to journey to the theater to see this movie.

I pretty much checked out from Bond films a while ago so my few votes are mostly at the beginning of the list: Goldfinger, From Russia, Dr. No, plus Live and Let Die. Much of the middle/late period I never saw, or, maybe even worse, did and simply don't remember doing so. I've heard enough good things about the new one to where I might give it a shot, although I was mostly bored by the Craig/Casino Royale so maybe not.

I can't imagine that a full-year closer ever finished so low. What's even worse for him is that such a low vote total in a sub-.500 season doesn't even get him enough juice to crack our overall top-500 these days. He'll have to pitch much better next season just to get his name in lights for future CPFers to see.

FINAL 2012 RANKINGS Dickey & Wright were all named either 1st or 2nd on every ballot but in the end, despite a tense back and forth battle (plus the distraction of his writing career) Dickey prevailed. Niese was solidly in 3rd from the beginning with a substantial cushion on either side. For 4th Ike just edged out Muffy. The battle for 7th, 8th & 9th was a tight one, as was the grouping for 10th through 14th so, as in Florida, every vote was important. Dirty Dancing It may not qualify as a mega-hit based solely upon 1st release but, like say Shawshank, it's certainly enjoyed a lengthy second life in cable syndication and in pop culture land, plus it's one of those flicks which feels like everyone has viewed at least 10 times ... except me. I've caught pieces of it here and there on cable but never all the way through.

I've seen worse rom-coms. Movie's more than a bit uneven with the dialog often too cute by half. In between it tends to vacillate between you-gotta-be-kidding-me scenes that would never happen anywhere except in stupid rom-com movies and some decent ones courtesy of a couple of non-rom-com pros Patricia Clarkson & Richard Jenkins each playing a parent of one of the leads. And in answer to my question from eight months back: Mila gets more nekkid than I would have guessed. Bonus Met content involves the two leads celebrating a Jose Reyes HR on TV.

As I acknowledged in the intro, the definition of 'mega-hit' is a bit broad But mainly I was going for for those flicks most widely viewed - either during their initial run or since. You can use box office dollars although those numbers tend to get skewed by time. And pop culture quotes & references tend to favor lighter comedies and such. IOW, name those movies where you're convinced that you are one of the handful of people on the planet who hasn't seen it without necessarily going back to the ones released before you were born.

The current discussion in the GB thread mentioning the possible impending release of 'Ghostbusters 3' reminds me that the largest source of mega-hits that I haven't seen is just about all sequels - but, unlike hit movies that I simply never got around to, missing sequels is very intentional.
